Whats with everyone completely sh!tting on clottey? You guys do realize this is boxing, bunch of melo-dramatic drama queens around here. This would be a good fight and further test for Ortiz at 147
Nope you are absolutely WRONG!
Ain't watching a fighter who throw out fights.
Waste of money.
At this stage, I don't want to see Clottey fight period. He had the fight won vs Cotto but just didn't throw punches.
He's just not active enough and that's because he doesn't want to take chances. He did it vs margarito, vs cotto and against Ortiz would be the same thing. Ortiz throwing punches and Clottey covering up landing the occasional jab.
No thanks
They should not let clottey fight!!
The fight with pacquiao, he took the money and ran.
The commisioner should punish fighter who takes peoples money.
He was given the opportunity of a life time against Pac and he didn't even try..literally didn't even try..it was an embarassing and completely pathetic performance. If you show up and have an off night, or get completely outclassed that's fine, the fans will forgive you, however making absolutely NO effort to win the fight I simply cannot forgive. Showing up on the most important night of your career and making no effort to win is unforgivable in my book.
Quite good matchup, could be interesting to watch. I'll go with Ortiz, he absorbs some leather from Clottey but walks him down down the stretch. Doubt Clottey can be stopped, but Ortiz does punch hard...not sure. Maybe a championship round-stoppage?
Thanks!
At least someone else remembers that it isn't the Pacquiao fight that should only be looked at. Clottey just lacks determination, it was more than just lack of stamina against Margarito.
It's not lack of determination, it's not wanting to take chances. He can beat lower level opponents with that style but when fighting good boxers like Cotto and pressure fighters like Marg, you have to have punch output to win.

no, not ever. Just don't want to see clottey anymore, he's a waste.
Ortiz is gonna have to work, not worry about landing clean shots. He'll have to keep a cool head, not go into panic mode. He best not pull straight back either because clottey does have a straight right hand and can fight in close. In fact, there are a lot of things clottey can do, it's too bad he's weak minded and his stamina is very questionable. I wouldn't know who to lean towards, i want to say ortiz because i really dislike clottey after the shitty performance he put up against pacquiao, so i don't know really.
i dont dislike him after pacq, he was just clearly outclassed and confused on what to do. I really think the pressure of venue and under dog stat and all that played a bigger role than we give credit for. This was not the same clottey that fought and i believe beat cotto.
I guess the old saying "You're only as good as your last fight." is true. Yes, I agree, Clottey stunk it up against Pac and looked bad. But why can't it be that Pac was just that good instead of Clottey being that bad? Everyone knows hes a massive WW, so the cut to '47 probably had a bit of a roll on his conditioning.
What about his fights against Cotto and Judah? He looked pretty damn good there. If you guys think the Clottey that showed up against Pac is gonna be the same Clottey against Vic, think again cause Pac and Vic fight nothing alike. Clottey taps that ass and boxes Vic's head off all night!
Just because Clottey could not react against Pacquiao's speed doesn't mean he will continue to be as defensive as he was with Pacquiao than against Ortiz.
Remember, Clottey went well against Cotto. So let's not look at Clottey at his last fight.
I would prefer this fight and see if Ortiz will have answers to Clottey's defense as well as his offense.

You literally took the words right out of my mouth haha
Co-sign.I don't think there was ever another fighter who would simply continue to not throw punches, but still expect to win,in every fight.
Would you want this fight
i think this would be a brilliant fight. Vic's punch output at 147 was higher than at 140 so i think he can trouble Clottey because he has power too.....but i'd still probably slightly favour Clottey. Would be a good competitive fight imo.
I'd like to see it. Clottey has been in some good fights other than Pacquiao.
Ortiz is probably just good enough for Clottey to blow the championship rounds and lose to.

Yes, Clottey is bigger, stronger and has better defense to go with a solid jab that will slowly break down Vic. Both of their heart's are questionable but I'd still give the edge to Clottey due to more solid fundamentals.
