Respect to Berto, I don't think this fight hurt his stock. He showed a lot of heart in that fight; and I think Berto would win the rematch.
*Did Berto think Ortiz was going to quit? I got the notion from reading his interviews before this fight that, in the back of his mind Ortiz would quit.
Berto's stock got exposed as being sh*tty.
Everybody knew he was all hype. Ortiz made him look like a lil b*tch and Ortiz isn't that good. Ortiz is the one who should've gotten all those million dollar paydays not Andre B*tcho
He didn't gain more. IMO, the fight did hurt his stock. He might have gained more respect from fans, even if he did fail the test. But the fight hurt his stock.
He gained one of the most important things a fighter can gain. And that my friends is the experiance of a very tough outting. Collazo was tough, but Ortiz was a whole lot tougher. Now Andre has the lessons of last nights fight to digest and learn from. Oh yea. His stock did shoot up, he showed that he can bang with a very good puncher, who's power may have been underated, because he stuck around in a division that he possibly out grew two years ago.
No he didnt because he already showed heart against Collazo and when he got dropped against Rivera. He for the first time stepped up to b+ opposition since Luis and lost so this didnt do anything to help his career at all and imo his heart in the ring wasnt in question to begin with.
He didn't give Collazo a rematch though, and to me that hurt his stock more than the win.
I was impressed. I didnt think he had it in him to get up after 2 knockdowns in the first round, and he looked better than in any of his fights.
he just happened to run into an Ortiz that was focused as hell, and was much more physically stronger since he didnt have to cut to 140 any more.
Defeats really hurt your boxing record these days so unless you go 12 rounds with someone like mayweather or pacquiao and lose by split decision then I would say a defeat is never really good.
Gain more compared to what? Winning against Ortiz?
Appeal.
Obviously you would take a win any day, but this is like the "Malignaggi-Cotto" fight where both fighters gained respect from the boxing community and public in general. Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo type appeal/respect.
i dont think so...respect from some people in taking this fight and trying to do what he could? yeah maybe. it's a hard lesson learned for him, but losing always hurts your stock imo, even you put up a hell of a good fight.
Thanks for the link to the fight last night it worked great.
He's got another fight with Ortiz, huh?
I mean there musta been a rematch clause, right?
Nah, theres no rematch clause, but hopefully one gets mad.

Actually I finally give Berto some respect for being in a fight. Everybody else he fought were bums. This was FOTY for sure, and I'm waiting anxiously for the rematch.
Collazo, Quintana, Forbes and Urango are not "bums".
I love how this term just gets thrown around so loosely here.
