Marcos Maidana put a whooping on morales last night, now everyone is brainless. People keep saying saying Marcos looked horrible, Marcos looked sluggish, blah blah blah. The dude was in a fight with a veteran that knows how to box. Marcos looked good against khan and ortiz cause those guys were fighting to survive. Marcos had them on the run and was beating them silly. And imo the fight with khan shouldved been stopped in the tenth. Needless to say, Morales is WAYYYYY better then khan and ortiz. Morales wasnt running even after taking BIG shots, the dude kept coming forward and fighting. And thats why people assume that Marcos performance was poor.
Yeah Morales looked good in some spurts, in some rounds but come on that fight really wasnt close. Morales star power and commentators talked people into seeing a different fight. Yeah he looked good for a 34 year old that been in a few wars, but compared to his old self he was far from fresh. But his style still made it a akward fight because he dose have those skills to box....but to say marcos fought poor is foolish...
U seen Morales face....he took a beating..
The problem is that you said, "IT WASN'T EVEN CLOSE"
If it wasn't even close then why was it that in the 10th round, Morales had Maidana's number? Maidana looked demoralized, tired and ready to pack it in.
Morales had the problem of the eye since round one. Sure, I will be the first to say it's part of boxing but you still need to take into account that even though Morales had vision problems he did very good. To me, it appeared that his eye problem closed shut and gave him way too much problems at the end to continue the way he was doing in the middle rounds up to and including the 10th round.
As for your spurts comment: Maidana did the same thing. Often he tried to smoke Morales with 10 punch combination then tire himself out then try to look good the last 10-20 seconds of the round. Meaning Maidana did things in spurts as well and more importantly, you may not have realized it but Maidana missed A LOT of his punches. Morales had a higher connect ratio.
Again, you are not disputing who won. You are saying "it wasn't even close ".
It was close. 2 judges had it 116-112 and one had it a draw. 1 HBO analyst had Morales winning the other had it a draw. If you want to discuss a fight that was not even close. Just look at the the fight between Guerrero and Katsidis.
Do you think, from looking at Maidana's corner's reaction just prior and as they announced who won, that he knew he had won to the point of saying it wasn't even close?
At one point in the fight, Maidana's corner said, "you made Morales even this fight up"
.
Like I said...I have no clue what fight u were watching or the judges. THe first few rounds Morales looked old, his timing was off, he couldnt land nothing clea. Marcos was putting leather on him had him stubbling off balance into the ropes taking shots to his dome and body. We just knew if the fight kept to that pace as the first few rounds that the night was gonna be early for Morales because it wasnt looking good at all. Towards the middle of the rounds Morales did look a little better COMPARED TO THE FIRST FEW ROUNDS. But was he doing more then MARCOS??? NOT AT ALL. you keep talking bout the 10th round as if thats 12 rounds in one?? Yeah he looked good that round because marcos was taking a break from stalking him the whole fight. THen after the tenth it went back down hill for morales. He finished the fight the way it started....whooping morales ass....They made the fight closer because of morales star power...they said it would be cool if they gave him the victory...FIGHTS DONT WORK LIKE THAT...Pretend like we have no clue who both fighters are, turn the volume down, and watch the fight again....Marcos shut him out..
I thought so little of Maidana coming into this due to the fact that he got outboxed by a shot to **** Corley but now I think even less of him, what a piece of **** fighter, seriously I've never disliked a fighter as much as I do him (maybe JCC).
how can you hate on a fighter like maidana though? the guy puts out FOTY candidate fights one after the other no matter how crude a boxer he is and whoever is in front of him. no shit he can be outboxed, yet he's able to test your will to win and ability to survive, he gets it done. i think both chino and terrible won last night for giving us another classic fight.
lol...the fight started off with Morales getting his ass kicked and it ended with morales getting his ass kicked. All your doing is making excuses for why Morales lost the fight. Morales had two eyes when he walked from his dressing room to the ring. He left the ring to his dressing room with one of them completely shut. Morales is the type of fighter that the people love and want to see win. Just like Roy Jones, no matter how many times he loses you want to see him win, and even if his getting his ass beat and putting up a semi good fight, you want it to lean in his favor. Morales fought his heart out, i give all credit for lasting 12 rounds. But to sit here and say that the fight was close and that it could've been a draw is bogus. Marcos smothered him like pork chops the whole fight, landing blows over morales whole body. From time to time Morales would put his punches together nicely like old times, but that was here and there. And yeah Morales looked good when he did over all his is the better boxer of the two, just past his time. Marcos was touching Morales more then morales touched him...Morales lost that fight and it wasnt even a close contest....like I said he looked good in spurts, those spurts werent enough to win majority of rounds just cuz you want the man to win...

you ought to try watching a fight before smoking crack, NOT after

Morales controlled many rounds. Yes Maidana did more damage but Morales had Maidana wobbled more and controlled the pace with his counter punching. I had it a draw.
Morales got hit in that first round and his eye just kept on swelling to the point that Morales was fighting with one eye completely shut.
Morales was all over Maidana in the 10th round so not sure which fight you were watching. At that point Maidana looked demoralized, tired, and ready to pack it in.
Unfortunately that eye did Morales no favors. At the end of that 10th round, Maidana hit Morales with a couple of big shots and when he went back to the corner his corner told "See, he can't see your punches, you have him"
It appeared to bring Maidana's spirits up enough to take the last 2 rounds. That coupled with Morales having a harder time with his eye completely shut. Not only with defense (not seeing Maidana's punches) but also offensively (not able to judge the distance between himself and Maidana)

I had the fight a draw though I feel the referee should have been more stern with Maidana and deducted him a point if he continued hugging/rabbit punching and hitting after the break.
It's a bit stupid to say Morales took a beating based on his swollen eye, it was caused in the first round, there were 11 rounds after that, some of which were in Morales favour, some could have gone either way.
It was way more than the eye. He had cuts and his body was bruised up like crazy. His ribs and shoulders looked red and swollen by the end of the fight. You know he was pissing blood this morning. Plus the eye did continue to get worse as the rounds progressed
He took a beating. Sure some rounds were close, but he paid a HUGE price for the close rounds.
I scored the fight 116-112 for Maidana, it was actually a lot more competitive than i anticipated. After seeing how Maidana basically did whatever he wanted in the first, i thought that was how the fight was going to go. But as it went on, Erik turned it up and really put the fight to Maidana. Great fight, Erik is and will always be a ****ing warrior!!

i can see someone make the argument that morales got outworked, but morales' defense made sure none of maidana's punches hit flush. that said, maidana's workrate wasn't that great
whaat??? i was so pissed last night, i couldnt believe that maidana won. morales was bullied into the ropes, but not hit that effectively throughout the night. morales ALWAYS came back with the MORE CLEAN EFFECTIVE shots, hurting and wobbling maidana, while moraless was never really hurt. i was so surprised that maidana won, how can sloppy agression beat clean effectiveness. morales deserved that fight plain and simple
Maidana has always struggled with the veterans he fights. Corley, Morales, Kotelnik all gave Maidana trouble.
I thought Maidana beat Morales 7 rounds to 5. Morales took a MAJOR beating. I think he gave it his all this fight and that still wasn't enough.
his legs are gone.
I don't know man, If his legs were gone, he wouldn't had lasted 12 rounds. Not to mention that his footwork was what helped him slip and turn away from Maidanas punches. I don't think his legs are gone,
Maidana didn't perform because he didn't train properly and that's why the fight was so close. Morales is well past it, slow, sluggish, no speed, or pop in his punchs anymore. I hope he doesn't let JMM get to him, or he'll end up taking one hell of a beating.

Didn't Corley get knocked down something like ten times in his last fight? I stopped counting after awhile...
Morales could have won the fight up to the 11th round. After the 12th, Maidana seemed to lead on points convincingly enough. That being said, it would have been great if they'd given the fight to Morales. Maidana was throwing punches on almost every break and Morales was outboxing him.
