Honestly, in terms of within a fight, yes it was.
Rios is the only other possible fight, thus far, but it didn't have the same feel. With the way Rios fights and the fact that he can be a slow starter, you could see him falling behind. Whereas, McEwan looked like he was dominating and almost stopped his man in the middle rounds.
Then.. BANG (Word to Jim Lampley.) Lee starts throwing again and landing.. and hurting. He begins to wear him down and finally gets a stoppage in a fight that he had all-but-lost. That's simply a better swing in the fight.
kind of a silly thing to argue about. Both guys stole victory from the jaws of defeat, and both fights were edge of your seat affairs. If you had a rooting interest in either fight then it would be hard to objectively say which was a bigger comeback.... One thing that can't be argued is that if boxing had more fights like this and less Adrian Broner type affairs, boxing would be mainstream again in no time.
it's a debate silly that's what message boards are about

yeah so far...but i see what people are talking about in the rios fight...i thought he might get knocked out in the middle rounds the way the early ones were going...but clearly was in the fight by the fifth...where lee got lucky he had enought gas to outlast mcewan...close but give it to lee...imo of course...
man its a close call, Rios was getting hit the whole fight, outboxed he did start winning the late rounds and knocked dude out, but Rios was being outboxed the entire fight, Lee won the first and rounds 7-10 the fight was a draw on my card coming into the 10th, some people had rios still behind at the time of the knock out and considering Acosta is far better the boxer than Mcewan its gotta.be Rios - Acosta
Because Rios was always applying the pressure and dictating the fight. Whereas Lee had not control of the fight 2-6.
Pressure doesn't mean squat
Margarito applied pressure early one and got blasted for it
Mayorga applied pressure and got blasted for it
Zappvigna applied pressure and got schooled for it
you had no idea how the fight would lay out just based on pressure. If so then you give Acosta less credit than most of us in here did.
no one on this board backs Rios more than I and I clearly knew he was clearly behind by the 5th
i lean towards lee-mcewan than rios-acosta.
mcewan was on his way to a lopsided ud but got tired in the last 2 rounds and caught a big one in the last round.
rios, although he was getting some serious beating early on, he's style and toughness will tell you he's very capable of a comeback and actually he was already doing that even just in the middle rounds.
No because it wasn't about what great things Lee did to get back in the fight but rather the fact that McEwan gassed. The dude was so gassed it looked like he was gonna feint. His corner was giving him directions but he was so tired and out of it. McEwan lost the fight rather than Lee won it imo.
And I agree, the Rios comeback is probably the best.
I think Lee had a bigger comeback because he looked like he had no chance of winning what so ever and Rios was actually landing punches and being active. Rios was getting outclassed big time early in the fight too though so tough call.
he was getting outboxed for the first half the fight how could you say he was in it always? and he was hurt in the 3rd and it carried over in the 4th.
plus considering the level of opposition
Rios comeback>>>>>>>>Lee's

Round 2-6 Lee was getting his ass whooped. Rios was getting outclassed for the first four rounds but how many times have we seen a boxer outclassing a brawler but the brawler's pressure cracks the boxer and he can not deal with it similar to Cotto vs. Margarito. TBH throughout that whole Acosta vs. Rios fight I thought Rios was going to win. During round 2-6 I thought Lee literally had no chance because he was not going to ko McEwan.
no Rios vs Acosta was
This.. ^^^
Rios was getting outclassed (even got rocked hard early on) the first 3-4 rounds.. but dude has heart and a granite chin. Both Lee and Mcewan had their moments early on and the skill disparity between both fighters was not as apparent as it was for Rios/Acosta.
No I dont think so because Rios was always in that fight although he was hurt a few times he was always putting the pressure except maybe the 4th round. Lee looked like from round 2-6 there was absolutely no way he was going to win. I think Lee had a bigger comeback. Rios is just a bada$$ mofo he only was really hurt in the 4th and I feel Acosta vs. Rios was kind of actually a close fight in the beginning (lol at Elie's scorecard) but I knew that Acosta was not going to be able to fight the way he was for 12 rounds too much pressure from Rios and he made Acosta crack.
