Martinez and Dibella seems to spend a fair bit of time these days calling out either Pacquiao or Mayweather. Martinez is a middle weight. Both of those two are welterweights, (actually pac is still closer to a junior-welter). Super-middle weight is a lot closer than is welter, and there is tonnes of competition there.
Dibella has already said they won't fight Pirog- the one guy who is certainly a challenge after what he did to Golden Boy's Jacobs. David Lemieux is still too green. Martinez fought this Eastern European title holder closer to his natural weight, than coming down to 154 where his opponent held the title.
I love how Martinez fights and I don't see why he can't go up to fight the likes of Bute, Ward, Froch, etc. Pavlik is going to 168 and Martinez beat him.
So how about it?
It's time for Martinez to do what Pacquiao and Mayweather both did- move up and win titles.
He's too old and too small to compete against the elite at 168. I'm sure he could beat a few guys at 168, but he would probably lose to the top guys at 168 because he's too small. The weight difference and power would make a difference.
Thats how i feel, I think 160 will be his limit I dont think he will retain his speed at that weight and would be dwarfed by most of the super middle guys.
Err, Pac is a 4-time lineal champion, he has the chance to become five if the Floyd fight happens, when its all said and done, 5 out of 8 pretty darn good.
Also I 've no doubt in my mind he would have gone for it at 135 as well had the Oscar fight not materialised, as well as big money fights that followed.
As for Sergio, i believe he can move up and be competitive and what is there realistically at 154 and 160 anyway thats going to make him money and move him up the p4p ranks.
Money wise - Cotto/Margo and Strum if in Germany
p4p - Pirog?, Golovkin?, Korobov? All still relatively green as well.
Kirkland is the only one that will make him money and improve his p4p status, IMO, and that fight is at least a year away if all goes to plan.
I think he can beat Abraham and Kessler. Ward and Dirrell, I'm not so sure about. And when you're the man at MW, why move up at this stage of your career just so you can be the 3rd or 4th best at SMW?
What's with the ignorance of people following Martinez's victory over Dzin?
Pac cherry picked Ledwabba on a 2 week Notice
Pac moved up to cherry pick Marco Antonio Barrera :puke:
Pac moved up to cherry pick Erik Morales ( He lost )
Pac moved up to cherry pick Oscar DelaHoya
Floyd Cherry picked Diego Corrales
Floyd Moved up and Cherry Picked Jose Luis Castillo
Floyd moved up and Cherry Picked Arturo Gatti
Floyd moved up and cherry picked ODLH.
Ray* is a good poster i presume but that post is idiotic.
I love how you picked Pac's best fights and left out his cherrypicking, You forgot about larios, you forgot about David Diaz, You forgot about Eric Morales (3rd fight)..
I havent got time to educate fan boys to be honest..
oh is that why martinez resume is nowhere close as good as pacquaio's at all. You know what is funny that a drunked, less confident, Pavlik and paul williams wins are equal to pacquaio drunk Ricky Hatton, miguel cottoo win. But some reason people saying Martinez is fighting far better competition even though their competition for the past 3 years are basically the same. THe only difference is that people like to discredit pacquaio win.
And you know what is funny....how come martinez didn't step up to competion before.
And don't put the no amatuer background bull**** too because pacquaio has no amatuer background and is younger than martinez and some how his resume **** all over martinez but yet martinez fighting better competition.
Pacquaio is about to clean up 147 but yet he gets flack for cleaning out 147.
What has Pac done for us lately? Keeping active? Fighting name shot and war-torn fighters? Get back to me whenever he takes on a fighter on two impressive wins in a roll..:crackhead
He moved up and beat the man at 160, He didnt cherrypick a title at 160 like Pac and Mayweather have been doing for years, Learn about boxing before chatting shiit..

I think Bute is real good, along with Froch, but I think Ward is his biggest challenge by far, I would like to see a Pavlik rematch at 168 or maybe Dirrell which could be a great fight
We don't know, but certainly not right now IMO. He just got to middleweight and isn't exactly big at the weight. Another fight or two to get used to weighing in at 160 and I think he can.

Martinez is a small middleweight and will have some issue with guys that show 10-15 lbs heavier than him for the fight. At this time He should stick with middleweights.
Watch the Pavlik fight and check how much Pavlik outweight Martinez on fight night...:boxing:
He should stay at 160lbs or go back 154lbs. There is no reason for him to move up to 168lbs unless he absolutely has to and there is a big reward. If he fights any of the guys he's calling out at 154lbs, there shouldn't be any complaints. Those who are complaining are being plain ignorant.
Best post of the day, If he wants Cotto, Mayweather, Margarito or Pac at 160 then Martinez must be crazy but if he's prepared to fight then at 154 then they should all be open to fighting him, Any other thing is just ignorant and fanboyism by all this ignorant posters who are bent on protecting their favourite fighter.

It would take less than 6 rounds for Bute to drop Martinez.
He is way too big and powerful for Marrinez. Sergio is quicker but his speed isn't light years ahead of Lucian so he will get caught often and it wouldn't be pretty.

That sounds interesting.
