I thought Joel Julio was the only good part of his resume. He's KO'ed Lyell (which Chavez Jr failed miserably to do) and Vera (who just upset Sergio Mora and also KO'ed Andy Lee). Not a bad resume at all. I'd say he's one elite fighter away from challenging Martinez.
Did you see those fight though? They couldn't do anything to Kirkland because Kirkland woud alway point a 9mm at them.
The only one of those three I saw was the Julio fight. I was somewhat impressed by that performance, especially after seeing him take a flush shot without wobbling and then proceed to beat the s**t out of him lol
so what if he could? Who at 154 beats Kirkland? I would favor him over Cotto, Canelo, Angulo, Cintron and just about everyone else.
seriously? Lots of power and lots of aggression but the guy is like swiss cheese, lots of holes. No Defense, inconsistent performances, lackluster chin, lack of experience vs good opposition and stylistically. On top of that you can throw his layoff, obvious lack of common sense and having as far as I know no consistent trainer. Exciting but a guy that would probably get beaten by those you listed minus the everyone else statement.
kirkland is good, i would wanna see him against someone good though...angulo like everyone is saying...isn't he fighting this friday? i saw a thread about it...

Swinging for that head is like trying to smash an egg with a hammer whilst someone else is moving the egg with a piece of string.

they can do it at 154. Kirkland's come back fight was at 163 but he still pans on fighting at 154. he's still not in 100% fighting shape
It's not his shape I'm worried about, it's Angulo's. What was the last we've heard of him? Is he still in the gym? Is Showtime willing to pick him up?
yea man, Kirkland's no joke. Reminds me of a smaller mike tyson in his build and his all out style. Good to see he's shaking the rust off by fighting so frequently, hopefully we'll see him in a serious fight soon. Him vs. Angulo and the winner gets Martinez is what I wanna see.
That's what I wanna see too. I assume Angulo has also blown up since the Alcine fight, so they could do it at 160. If he gets a tune up or two soon, he should be ready.

I never realized how good James Kirkland's resume is. | BoxingScene Community
