and that ref is a moron. I thought it was horrible watching it live on HBO saturday night but it's even more horrible watching it today. How the hell are you going to grab an unresponsive fighter gloves and tap it for him. The ref literally forced Montiel to tap his glove for him when he knew nothing about it.
No, but when the referee was telling him to come forward, Montiel turned his hands up and nodded his head, like saying "Yeah, I'm ready."
The ref didn't ask him if he was ready, he asked him to step forward. When he didn't step forward, that should have signaled to the ref right away that he didn't know what was going on.

the ref was horrible....WTF was he thinking?!?....Montiel was in no shape to go on....HORRIBLE job by that ref!!!....I like the way Kenny Bayless handled the Mike Jones-Soto Karass fight....that was some good reffin'.....minus the missed butt, other than that...Bayless was on his game.....can't say the same for the ref in Montiel's case....that was really sick!!!
the ref did the right thing....
if, by some miracle of the Universe, Montiel somehow regained consciousness, defended himself to the bell...regained his composure and won the match....
1. the ref would go unnoticed, even though he would've deserved credit.
2. The fight would've been historically epic.
Montiel was champ and deserved a chance to regain his composure....the ref jumped in IMMEDIATELY after seeing Montiel simply couldn't fight anymore. But damn, to get up on your feet from that sh*t right there.....takes some f**kin' massive balls.
I kinda thought the fight could have went on just off of Montiel getting to his feet at first, but after hearing Montiel suffered a fractured jaw I believe it was a proper stoppage. A couple more shots and Montiel would have been drinking his meals through a straw.
Did he walk forward like the ref asked?
No, but when the referee was telling him to come forward, Montiel turned his hands up and nodded his head, like saying "Yeah, I'm ready."
He beat the 10 count but did not respond when the ref asked him to come forward. Not once, not twice but 3 times (IIRC). The Ref should have done his job and called the fight there.
You can tell he responded. Watch it again.
Montel was on hs feet before the 10 count. He deseRved to be given shot to redeem himself...

Remember Russell Mora was getting some heat for prematurely stopping the Berto / Hernandez fight in December. So maybe Mora felt more compelled to let this fight continue because of that.
You ask the fighter if he's OK and if he is or show sign that he is than you grab his glove and clean it for him.
This happened, if only a little. Next time you watch it, look closely.
You seem to not understand what goes on in this situation. You don't need the boxers consent to wipe the gloves. It's part of the ref's job to grab and wipe the gloves to remove anything that might get in the fighter's eyes. The fighter has nothing to do with this.
This part is bullshit. He was responsive. For all we know he spoke to the referee as well.
What part of the ref asking Montiel,'are you OK', don't you understand. You ask the fighter if he's OK and if he is or show sign that he is than you grab his glove and clean it for him. All Montiel was at the moment was an unconscious fighter standing up.
He litterally forced Montiel to continued by tapping and cleaning his gloves without his consent.

Motile was stuck in Mars with the rover Spirt.

I disagree. Im with Roy Jones and I love guys like Steve Smoger. You always got to give a champ that respect. What does it hurt? I could see if he let it continue and then let Donaire beat him to death but instead he just gave him one chance and Nonito landed the next punch and the ref stopped it. Its no big deal
Please stop it with the give the champ the respect. Did you see Montiel? Motile was stuck in Mars with the rover Spirt. He litterally forced Montiel to continued by tapping and cleaning his gloves without his consent.
The ref wasn't tapping his gloves, he was cleaning his gloves on his shirt, just as refs always do when a fighter is knocked down.
But, I agree that the ref should have stopped it then, Montiel was in no condition to defend himself.
Tapping and cleaning is the same sh!t. What I'm trying to say is the ref literally forced Montiel to do it, Montiel knew nothing about it.

You're still on this shit? I don't know what you mean by tapping, but the referee has to grab the fighters gloves and wipe them off after a knockdown whether they are handed to him or not. For example, Cortez reached out and grabbed for the gloves from Marquez's hips after all three knockdowns in the first fight with Pacquiao.
Stop trying to make something out of nothing.
