Okay, I admit it, I was wrong, my prediction on the Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire fight was wrong, but there are question marks that must be raised concerning the outcome of this fight.
I give credit to Nonito Donaire, he was one of the few Filipinos who came out on top in a big fight against a legit Mexican boxing champion, the only other Filipino to triumph against Mexican legends is Manny Pacquiao.
The KO of Montiel was very scary and almost unreal. Donaire’s left hook was very strong and powerful like he had iron in his gloves. I found something very funny about this fight and have to wonder if the win is credible. Montiel came in heavier and looking like a miniature Mr. Olympia bodybuilder, this training to put muscle mass could have hurt Montiel and made him muscle bound and very stiff in the fight. He probably believed he needed to bulk up because people were saying he was so much smaller than Donaire, but Donaire was actually lighter and had a shorter reach than Montiel.
I’m not going to use that as an excuse to discredit Donaire because that was just a poor training choice by Montiel’s strength and conditioning coach. Rather than trying to get a size advantage on Donaire, Montiel’s team should have just stuck to their regular boxing routine and focus more on Fernando’s superior boxing skills and not building muscle.
My main concern with this fight has to do with the suspicion of steroids and other undetectable performance enhancing drugs. Manny Pacquiao refused to take blood tests against Floyd Mayweather Jr., but Nonito is willing to take blood tests anytime to prove he is clean. This sounds too good to be true, and usually if it sounds too good there is something up. All of a sudden this skinny Filipino guy Nonito Donaire hit a durable champion like Montiel in his head so hard that he left a dent in his skull, and Donaire’s fight before this one, he broke Volodymyr Sydorenko’s nose and face badly dropping him multiple times and stopping him in the 4th round leaving him with his face squirting blood.
Nonito is working with the notorious BALCO founder Victor Conte, the man who got served time in the pen for giving athletes like Sugar Shane Mosley and Olympic gold medalists Marion Jones, designer steroids that were undetectable by drug tests.
The suspicions will always linger; did Nonito Donaire have an unfair advantage coming into his fight with Montiel? And without those chemical supplements given to Donarie by Victor Conte could he still beat a superior Mexican fighter like Fernando Montiel? Basically, did he need Victor Conte “extra boost” to win and without Conte would he still win against Montiel?
If you wanted your legacy to be clean and never questioned why align yourself with a man who was found guilty of making undetectable steroids and giving them to athletes so they could cheat?
If anything, Nonito brought this suspicion upon himself when he partnered up with a man like Victor Conte. When you get to a certain level you have to be careful who you associate yourself with.
Conte said that the use of PEDS was best used at the start of training camp so the boxer can shapen his skills towards the end. It would make a fighter more accurate. Therefore more KO power.
Conte knows how to beat the system. He will know how to use creams as opposed to tablets to beat the testing procedures. Creams are undetected after 3 days..
is martinez also on it? he struggles with Paul I but became easy on the rematch.
He was going for the knockout, in the first fight he wasn't. And it was just a perfect punch and besides, Sergio is a bigger man than Nonito, while Williams is a natural welter/jmw. He ain't used to fighting at 160.
No, he's got a point. You Donaire fans must understand where the skepticism comes from. Why start to work with Conte just as you are moving up to a higher weightclass? The reason can only be to get more strength. That said, I thought Donaire's performance was masterful and I hope he doesn't get caught cheating, it would be bad for the sport which needs guys like Nonito.
Don't just dismiss the criticism because you love Nonito. Its not right. Especially guys who win and are now champions are entitled to criticism.

You can't suspect everyone who KTFO their opponent to be on some PED. If that were the case why not suspect Martinez or Pirog?
Nonito has been KOing dudes before Conte was on board. This dude has been KD welters in sparring, pre Vic D.
If you're going to postulate, pls. do a bit of research.
For all of Conte's faults, he obviously knows what he's doing. Expect a lot more athletes to start using his methods...legal methods, that is.
I love how Donaire stated, "I have a big vein right here. Anytime you guys wanna test me..." If only Manny were so confident. :cool2:

I’m not going to use that as an excuse to discredit Donaire because that was just a poor training choice
I see what you did there. It's called "contradiction".

Manny Pacquiao refused to take blood tests against Floyd Mayweather Jr., but Nonito is willing to take blood tests anytime to prove he is clean. This sounds too good to be true, and usually if it sounds too good there is something up.
So if he refuse to take random blood tests, he's suspect. But if he is willing to take random blood tests, he's also suspect. So what should he do to erase your doubt then?
And this my friend is called an "agenda".

there is no doubt that working with Conte is a VERY SMART thing to do if you are strong minded and can stand on your own two feet to any critisism....Victor Conte knows the human body and how to feed it with food and LEGAL suppliments to get the most from it in training and recovery....you buy all the supplements from known sources that are legal and don't let Conte give you anything and where is the problem? he will have your testosterone levels at their peak and your red blood count off the scales too, but all within the legal limits...why would you not use someone like this when you are in control of what is going into your body yet using his knowledge of the human body?
c`mon man, the guy just won in a scintillating fashion, why cant you give credit and respect where its due? by how he knocked the guy out doesnt equate to peds use its just a shot from a blind spot. and you said him agreeing to drug test is too good to be true, wtf? what do you want him say? no? and be plagued with negativities just what others are doing to certain boxers?your opinion is just absurd.
TS doesn't understand that a punch that you don't see coming is the most devastating. e.g V. Darchinyan, R. Hatton, P. William and now F. Montiel they all said the same thing They didn't see it coming.
Vic is very one dimensional IMO.
it doens't matter if you're a bum or the p4p #1
if you got hit with a perfectly timed blindside punch, you will come crashing down & probably never got up
back to topic, Nonito says that was the hardest punch he ever gave to anyone yet
it was perfectly timed plus the fact that Montiel never saw it coming makes it that brutal
The man has already stated he would take drug tests _ANYTIME_. He's got nothing to hide... and Victor Conte is known for ratting people out so pretty sure Donaire is straight as they come. Fact is Donaire hasn't avoided the subject.
Dude, this is probably the best time to be associated with Conte. Do you think he will again attempt to cheat after the 1st scandal? The spotlight is going to be focused a lot on this man that I find it stupid if he will again try any shenanigans with that much attention.
I read somewhere (forgot the link though) that a certain athlete got tested for steroids 5 times in 1 year. After he hooked up with Conte, this number increased to 10!See what I mean? No way would Vic ruin his shot at a 2nd chance with everyone looking at him.
That's right. Have you seen the KO on darchinyan?
He wasn't with conte back then.
Some even say the vic KO was more nasty.
