How did Montiel get back up?

I was pretty amazed that he popped up like that. I would have liked to see the fight if Montiel had got a little more comfortable. Having said that, Donaire looked like a Welterweight. Bigger, Better, Faster and way Stronger.....

When I saw his legs shaking on the ground I kept thinking of Stanley Ketchel-Jack Johnson. I also thought when he got up he'd be flailing like when Zab went down against Tszyu. What a heart he's got. Going against Hasegawa I thought he'd get beaten because of his performance against Valdez. But he faced two quality opponents in a row, as has Donaire.

Heart plays a role, but so does great conditioning and a desire to win. It was amazing he got from that one though.

Montiel is a warrior but i don't think its has to do with "heart". His a fighter and been knockdowned before. Even though his dazed/hurt, he knows he got 10 seconds to get up or he will lose. He wanted to beat the count, which he did cuz the ref stop and let him continue. Its a natural reaction.

you know it was muscle memory because right before he got up his muscles were acting up on him. almost nothing to do with *heart* when a person gets up & fights through their knock downs thats showing *heart* like bradley vs holt. This won't be a popular opinion, but Montiel really didn't have a chance to do anything. As soon as the referee moved his arms out of Montiel's view, Donaire was already right in front of him trowing punches when he should have been coming from the corner.

His conditioning, he was in excellent shape

People dont confuse heart with muscle memory, that was nothing but his nervous system playing out the beat the count scenario

The ref should have stopped it after that KD. Damn him, what was he thinking?

It was nothing but pure fighter's instinct. the body was willing, but the mind isn't willing.

montiel showed good character after getting hit with that bomb but the ref shud hav stoppd it i thought he was gna hav a seizure and when he got hit with them 2 punches after he took em extremly well heart of a champion but lots of respect to donaire

Pissed at the ref. When Montiel got up he asked him to walk towards him REPEATEDLY and he did not move. It should have been stopped there and then. suspend that mofo. They should have got Bayless or Smoger. The ref even had to lift Montiel's hands up for him. :nonono: It was too late in my opinion, but I'm glad he finally stepped in when Donaire landed those two shots, which weren't very hard punches, but Montiel couldn't defend himself. But what if they were flush, solid shots that landed after he got up? Montiel could really gotten hurt in there.

Honestly, I don't think Montiel even knew where he was and as of right now, he probably doesn't even remember getting up. Most referees would have stopped the fight just looking at Montiel's eyes when he was laying there. Pissed at the ref.
