calzaghe fighting the current ward, then for me its a no brainer, calzaghe wins on points. joe was pretty smart in the ring and could change and adapt very efficiently and in my mind would have worked ward out and how to box/fight him.
ward isnt an idiot and in time maybe he will pick up the same ring smarts you can only gain with experience, but joe had too much experience on how to win even if it wasnt pretty.
most people are gonna over rate the f*ck out of calzaghe cuz he's undefeated and retired but in reality i think ward would beat that sh*t out of calzaghe.
I'm loling pretty hard at the people who believe andre ward could have stopped joe calzaghe
he couldnt get allan green out of there...
how's he going to stop an ATG who never lost, nevermind got stopped?
i like andre ward as much as the next guy
i believe he's the best young american fighter right now
but let's not get carried away.
joe via decision
I agree those accomplishments hold him in good stead, and without doubt a Prime version of Calzaghe against this verison of Ward, there is only one winner.....but Ward has the chance, IMO, to exceed Joe's resume in the fututre as there seem to be a stronger crop of SMW at this moment, unlike when Joe fought.....
Its funny that people discredit Ward for fighting in his hometime all the time, but conveniently forget that Calzaghe more or less done the same thing...( added to the fact that some of his early fight stoppages are quite frankly, embarrassing)
this I agree with 10000%. I put that in my first post.
On the flip side , I believe Calzaghe is slightly overrated aswelll.....you would have thought Calzaghe was a top 5 ATG the way people are talking about him.....
calzaghe is an hof'er. not atg. he was obviously in a weak era of smw's and he passed on opportunities to try and become an atg (ottke etc).
Ward apparently is SRR and can do anything he wants in the ring after his win vs a crappy kessler (not the same one jocal fought), sakio bika, allan green, edison miranda, and shelby pudwell.
he now has the experience to handle jocal and do whatever he wants with him, including outboxing him from the outside (even though he has yet to do that in a fight vs c+ or better fighters). he couldn't knock out miranda, or allan green and went the distance with them. just because he fights rough now he's equal in terms of skill level and experience and effectiveness in the ring to bhop.
joe was lineal champion in 2 weight classes and had 21 title defenses.....so he has some credibility. ward hasn't even approached him in accomplishments and is not proving to be such a well rounded fighter at the higher levels of the sport right now.
calzaghe was 46-0 undefeated he wins easily herp derp!
wow what a breakdown that was. i'll try my own herp derp.
what style gave calzaghe the most trouble? inside fighters. calzaghe couldn't fight inside at all. he was a mid range fighter. whenever he got on the inside he just looked to hold so he could get seperated and reset into flurry mode. look at the bika and hopkins fights although cortez was the ref and doesn't allow inside fighting so that helped calzaghe a great deal against hopkins. look at the lacy, kessler, and jones fights. they have no inside games at all and got overwhelmed.
ward is on the same level as bika and hopkins in terms of inside fighting but he has more smarts than bika and more stamina than 43 year old hopkins. he also has elite boxing skills and fast hands. he would be able to circle and get off on the outside and when calzaghe rushed in to do his flurries ward would go into inside fight mode and totally shut calzaghe down just like those guys did. ward could also take the fight to calzaghe like he did to green and just smother him the whole fight. he has so many options. this would be an easy fight for ward if he had most refs in boxing. if he had cortez or some other ref who breaks too often calzaghe might be able to steal a decision just by throwing more.
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
holy crap, I totally missed when andre ward turned into SRR!
My suspicions of Ward being overrated are officially confirmed.
Bika and Hopkins totally shut down Calzaghe?????
Ward could do the same thing to Calzaghe as he did to Allan Green????????????
Wtf is wrong with you?
because he lost, got busted up and barely hit hopkins.
the fight was close, bhop forgot to do anything for the second half of the fight. either way, the showing was solid. it's not like bhop vs pascal when pascal was schooled for much of the fight.

I think Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Who do you think won that fight?

What?!
Why are people discrediting his win over BHOP? Are you out of your minds? Hopkins has proven to be so extremely dangerous, at this age. Slicker than ever. A win over BHOP is one of the best things you can put on your resume.
Yeah that Hopkins win looks better and better.
I definitely think this is hilarious, since restarting his career 21 years ago, BHOP has lost to 3 men, a prime Roy Jones Jr., a prime Jermain Taylor, and Joe Calzaghe...Bhop outlanded taylor in both of their fights, but Joe outlanded BHop by 105 shots in their fight.
you don't seriously believe that do you?

so, how do you fighure ward fights calzaghe anything like bhop or roy for that matter. which fights of ward's are you basing this off of? his decision vs miranda? his decision over kessler, how bout his decision over green or bika?
maybe its based on hi=ow he looked aainst some other boxer?
just because bhop can time joe doesn't mean a guy who has been fighting crude brawlers and 1-2 uppercut guys can even sniff jocal's jock. like it or no, joe is a master boxer, even if he slaps
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
