This guy is a badass man his like a little warrior and technical to BOOT!!!
How do you think he would do if he was a bit bigger to contend with the likes of mayweather, pacman, berto, mosley among others???
Thank goodness!!!
This thread has been a pleasure to read and I am glad I made it to see that I was not the only finto fan.
I love his style and I aspire to have amazing footwork and develop good endurance as well as habit to keep my hands up like he does!!!
His name pops up every once in a while in NSB, and it's usually positive. He was a excellent technical fighter, though fighting at minimumweight for most of his career hurt(s) his popularity.
If fights with Gonzale or Carbajal had materialized, things might be different.
Him and Salvador Sanchez were so much a like. I think it has to do with the weight. Him and Carbajal would of been a war with Finito winning. One of my all time favorites, dude had insane power for that weight class
IMO he is the best technical fighter Mexico has ever produced, and he had KO power.
Retired undefeated and now is a comentator for Box Azteca.
His son (Alonso Lopez) looks exactly like him, fight with his gaurd up high just like him, moves like him...hopefully he is 50% of what his father was.
His fights are a beauty to watch!
He is one of my all-time favorites. A lot of people say that JCC was the best Mexican fighter ever but to me it was "Finito", he just happened to be in a weightclass that most didn't care for. He made other fighters look dumb.
he was a great fighter without any other great fighters to beat up on. he was just that much better and at a lower weight where ppl dont get much recognition, there u have it.
it's sad how one of the greatest fighters ever in the history of the sport gets such minimal acknowledgement. mainly in part because of his weight class, other than that, he should be the standard of which fighters should hold themselves to.
he had it all as far as i'm concerned. also, most people even so called boxing fans, because during his reign they were trying to pimp out heavyweights like nothing else, so the smaller weight classes got shunned, a lot!
Finito is the epitome of what an elite fighter is............ the total package, if you ask me, there are others on his level, i just think he deserves to be revered more for his skill and professionalism..................
Among those who truly know,
he is.

Because he was in a small division and he missed out on the two biggest fights he could have made, for whatever reason.
Still, he's one of the most underrated boxers of the last 30 years. Truly remarkable how little he is mentioned. Considering, how ****ing good he was.
I didnt know there was even two ricardos???
Anyway I am talking about this guy... His style is so evolved that BLOWS my mind that more fighters arent adapting that fighting style
He has a son who is a pro prospect, his name is Alonso or Alfonso Lopez, he fights alot like his father. That style you are talkin about is from the Beristain Gym in Mexico City like JMM's style and such!! Great defense always have their hands up and great footwork!!
You mean "Finito" Lopez? who retired some time ago or his son? If "Finito Lopez was bigger and was fighting at the same time and weight as the fighters you mentioned, he would of beat them all!!
His son is named Alonso Lopez. They look so much alike. He has some talent too.
