The biggest fights are being shown on these premium cable channels HBO and Showtime. A lot of ppl don't have these channels. UFC a big part of the growth is it being shown on ****e. And remember when they said the SuperSix semi-finals and finals would be shown on CBS, has anybody heard any updates on that. Espn seems to be stepping up some, Versus left after they bought Toney-Oquendo I wonder why? lol
Of course it can in do time. Don't listen to all these idiots saying NO..
I think it needs to fail more before someone realizes there needs to be a change. Boxers are still making way to much money to feel like they need to change. Far more then UFC fighters make.
Are you sure about that outside of most popular HBO/Showtime regulars like Berto, Cotto, Williams, Martinez, Marquez, Diaz, Ortiz, Dawson, I am not sure. There might be and I'm guessing 30 boxers living really comfortable.
Can we just move on from the constant doom and gloom that always takes places when we talk boxing?
Just accept it for what it is, warts and all. And don't start with the UFC crap, a slightly more popular niche sport (in the US) is the last thing that boxing needs to worry about.
Versus did leave but they are broadcasting the World Series of Boxing now (something I couldn't care less about boxing-wise).
As far as a resurgence with HBO and Showtime I think you are right. I didn't follow boxing closely except for the last 3 years of show because there was no chance of my parents buying those channels when I was a kid. Like most sports kids are exposed to them at a young age and that's when they fall in love with it and become a fan for life. I'm the exception not the rule when it comes to boxing fans as I came to it later in life.
I'm curious as to where you heard rumors of the Super Six semi's on CBS? I follow boxing on TV type stuff pretty closely and I've heard nothing about that. Froch-Johnson on CBS could gain a bunch of new fans I think.
I heard that when the SuperSix first launched since CBS owns Showtime or something in the beginning press releases when the tourney was first announced
Boxing needs to make some big changes. UFC is doing well because there's no such thing as "ducking". Top competition always fight each other. Cards are always stacked
No, how can the sport become mainstream if most ppl are not exposed to the product on a regular basis?
Any other sport would suffer just as much if its biggest events can only be viewed on overpriced pay channels.
Exactly, and we are no longer in the Hot Box era which affect boxing viewing. Are there no other channels that but up the kind of money HBO/Show do for events? It would help ticket sales dramatically in my opinion.

Nope, look at all the garbage ppv's we've had.Look at Berto being baby'd along by hbo.Look at the stance hbo took with Martinez.Look how they allow Pacman to use there network to cherrypick.Look at how much fight fans think that hbo is better than showtime.Look at Floyd cheating against a lightweight on ppv.At least showtime has fights on fridays & saturdays. We need to support espn & showtime.Boxing will never make a comeback going the way it's going.
hbo and showtime's only hope is if a short, stocky african-american with a girl sounding voice comes out of nowhere and starts ko'ing everybody in the heavyweight division. boxing will definitley resurge in the u.s again. :boxing:
i'm afraid boxing will not resurge in the u.s., it seems to only be getting worse. tickets aren't selling like they did in years past. No way the super 6 semi-finals and final ends up on cbs, that tournament turned out to not be as big as it was suppose to be. boxing won't die, it will always be around but it doesn't look like its gonna get any better. ufc is slowly taking over in the u.s.
Boxing can be popular just because Blacks are going down the tube, theres alot of young Hispanic fighters comming up throught the ranks. Once boxing fans watch Hispanic fighters give them action packed fights they won't miss the boring Black fighter. The only person who will miss Black fighters will be Blacks
