Why is it that Morales is younger than Marquez and they each have the same amount of fights give or take one, they have their fair share of wars give or take one, they both are not defensive fighters so they take their hits.
So my question is what happened to Morales?
I mean you can say "Well Morales has as many fights as an old Marquez, see that already says a lot. He was ahead of his time."
But then how come "old" Marquez with as many fights as the younger Morales, still is as hard as they come? still a top P4P fighter? A champion, a Lineal/Ring champion at that? With as many fights as a shot/past prime Morales?
They aged better? How, lol they fight the same only Marquez has counterpunching skills. Morales been through more wars? Really, no he hasn't. Actually I have seen Marquez in more wars at an old age against top fighters than a young Morales. That's 4 wars in his mid-late 30s and is still a hard old man. And what I mean by young Morales is 24-27 to be fair to Marquez. Let's not add up Morales full career here, just a few years of comparison will do.
I'm not knocking Morales, I know he's been in a lot wars in the late 90s to mid 2000's but so did Marquez.
Granted he's made some horrible choices in choosing opponents such as fighting Chris John and losing, he was in the shadow of Barrera and Morales simply because he didn't have that typical Mexican brawl type style. He wasn't until he fought his first fight against Pac where he was noticed, Morales has a much better resume which makes me ponder about how Marquez would've done had he took on Morales' resume.
If he fought the Barrera that Morales fought, he would've been hurt. Juan's chin is nothing to write home about, and that Barrera was a killer.

i don't know how long you've been following marquez but pacquiao didn't come to 126 'til 2003. 10 years after jmm was a pro.
and pac gave him his fight. jmm was the one that avoided the immediate rematch.
morales offered him a fight as well. so did hamed. he turned them down.
excuses.
whether he was avoided or not don't mean **** for this topic.
he didn't fight anyone for the 1st 10 years of his career.
unless you count norwood.
He fought Gainer.
Marquez was actually calling out Barrera in 2003 when the contract for Pac was already signed :D . He wants MAB to scrap the Pac deal w/c turned out to be a good thing for MAB if he had taken it.
Barrera was the Lord that Time climbing as high as #2 p4p.

They both don't take the same amount of damage. Marquez gets hit far less, especially when he was younger. He'll take meaningless shots and the occasional hard shot that will drop him, but Morales would take anything and everything if he had to.
Plus Morales fought at a less controlled pace, the dude acquired a lot more wear and tear over the years, more than Marquez did. Marquez fights more efficiently because he's thinking in the ring, he's not just barging forward and trying to will his way to every victory. He only digs that deep when he has to. It's not his only option.
That's why Morales broke down sooner.
The standard 3 things that new fans don't realize about Marquez.
1- He used to be fast as hell
1- He never use to get hit nearly as much as he does now
2- He's a career featherweight
Him and Morales are two very different fighters. Marquez fought and was physically built to last as long as he has, Morales really didn't fight, or was built anything like that. Morales still knew what the hell he was doing in the ring though, obviously. His career speaks for itself.
probably has to do with the fact that marquez didn't fight anyone for like the 1st 10 years of his career.
and when he did, he was a safety-first counterpuncher
morales was in too many brawls if you ask me.
Those and
Morales started coming in at 160 to 170lbs in training camps.
His career was horribly mismanaged and because of that, he was a non-entity in a perfect time for him to prove his worth. He just didn't do it. That's it. How he would have fared, who knows. We know he can beat battle-worn fighters at this point, and brawlers with no power, but that's about it.
You know you're not exactly ATG status when your marquee fight is one that you fought to a draw in due to a scoring error. His biggest wins are his losses to Pacquiao. It's hysterical.

This is a great response. However, there is a huge factor that is missing here with respect to both of their careers, and that's their respective out-of-the- ring lives. Morales was notorious for ballooning up in weight when he was in between fights. He would kill himself to make weight afterwards, and it eventually caught up to him. He was also rumored to like to party and even rumors that he indulged in the nose candy. Marquez on the other hand, appears to have a more calm lifestyle outside of the ring, as well as keeping his weight under control in between fights. All jokes about him drinking piss aside, I think Marquez took better care of himself outside of the ring, and this factor is what we can most attribute their currents states to.
Thanks for the reply man. I never knew Morales was pulling a Ricky Hatton inbetween fights. That would definitely contribute to his skills deteriorating.
I pretty much assume all boxer use drugs, so if Marquez doesn't that's going to be very good for his health.
I dont know how long you have watched Marquez, but in the begining he wanted those big name fights and they made the excuse that he wasnt a big draw. He fought who was available while Barerra, Morales and Pacquiao deservatly hogged the spotlight with ATG battles. It was a timing thing not Marquez bull****tin. When he got his turn he shined. You are obsessed with hating a man that you probably dont even know. Weird sh*t man.
As for wear and tear it is no question Morales took way more punishment than JMM because he rearly rolled a punch and prided his self on punishing his opponents at his own expense.

Man stop hating that fight was a war don't come in here trying to give your own definitions of what a war is.
It's like saying Malignaggi/Diaz was a war. Two guys who can't punch their ways out of wet paper bags.

This^^^^^^^^^^^
It's also the reason Martinez looks as fresh as he does at the age of 35.
Outside of Margarito, and up until Cintron (Bunema if your being nice) he has fought nothing but fruit vendors and tango dancers down in argentina.

There you guys go this is a big factor
You make a solid point.
The answer is simple, JMM is just leagues better than Morales in every way and never had to fight like a caveman to win fights.
Plus he's always taken better care of himself in between fights. Morales was notorious for womanizing, drinking and i even heard cocaine rumors.
This pretty much sums it up. Quality of opposition, and I'm not sure when Marquez started fighting but Morales was very young and he jumped right into the deep end. He was fighting top-notch opposition early and often. Marquez wasn't doing anything.
(and a "war" with a pitiful puncher like Diaz should hardly be called a war. He got hit a lot, but Diaz has **** for power.)

I think this is a good response followed by paulf's.
I think it is lifestyles. I have never seen Marquez fat or out of shape.

i dont know wht im talking about, i've only watched marquez-pacquiao
just trollin, jeez
it's okay.
you're not the only one that hasn't seen much marquez fights.
marquez couldn't sell out a high school gym for a title fight.
Casamayor was a come forward noob?
What about Barrera?
His unification fight with Gainer?
Don't confuse his last 3 LW fights with JMM whole career.
He is a very skilled technician with a high boxing IQ that could very well adjust to almost any style.
2003 and 2008.
when did jmm turn pro?
1993 was it?
