Okay, just to settle the score a little bit on who deserves to fight Pacquiao, let's answer this question: If Mosley and Marquez fight, who will win and why?
Merry Christmas
Let the debate begin!
Mosley was asked what he says to the detractors of this fight.
"I would just ask them one question," he said. "If me and Juan Manuel Marquez fought, who do they think would win? That is the question I have."
Pacquiao and Mosley will be at welterweight, which is 147 pounds.
Marquez defended his lightweight championship with a ninth-round TKO of Michael Katsidis on Nov. 27. Marquez weighed 134 pounds - one under the limit.
Marquez has fought just once over lightweight, and that was when he weighed 142 for a fight against Mayweather and lost by nine, 11 and 13 points; Mosley lost to Mayweather by eight, 10and 10 points.
He hurt Mayweather, Marquez was decked by Mayweather.
If Mosley and the 37-year-old Marquez fought at welterweight, Mosley would probably win because he is just too big and strong for Marquez. But this is not about what would happen between Marquez and Mosley. It's about what could happen in a third fight between Marquez and Pacquiao, one that would have to take place at welterweight. Mosley gave a hint.
"He (Marquez) got dropped by Katsidis (in the third round) and Katsidis is not the biggest puncher in the world," Mosley said. "Marquez got dropped by a lightweight."
Arum put his own spin on that.
"As good a fighter as Juan Manuel Marquez is, they are in two different weight classes," Arum said of Pacquiao and Marquez. "I saw both of the first fights they had and the bigger, stronger Pacquiao now would annihilate Marquez."
Pacquiao and Marquez fought in 2004 and 2008 at featherweight (126 pounds) and super featherweight (130), respectively.
Mosley was then asked to convince fans he has a chance to beat the 32-year-old Pacquiao. He pointed to Pacquiao's fight in November against Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao pounded Margarito over 12 rounds, but also absorbed some punishment and admitted he was hurt at one point by a body punch.
"I say my punching power is always going to give me a chance," Mosley said. "The last time I checked, I have pretty good speed. I'm not quite as slow as Margarito and I think I hit a little bit harder than Margarito."
Mosley was laughing because he has much better hand speed than Margarito, who was stopped by Mosley in the ninth round in January 2009.
"I think that makes it more of a scary fight for Pacquiao because I can hit and I do have speed," Mosley said. "If Margarito can hit Pacquiao, I can hit Pacquiao."
There is an interesting side story. Recently, De La Hoya said he was chagrined Mosley walked away from his company after all the money he helped him make. De La Hoya's CEO, Richard Schaefer, said he recently made calls to Mosley that were not returned.
Mosley said because of the hostility between Arum's Top Rank Inc. and Golden Boy, he had no choice but to leave if he wanted any chance of getting this fight. He also said he did try to reach out to Schaefer twice along the way, but that Schaefer was not available.
"I needed to go out and make the fight happen," said Mosley, who said a divorce he is going through made getting this fight even more of a financial must. "I'm 39 years old. I have a couple of fights left. I needed to make something happen."
Marquez isn't that hard to hit,he is ineffective above 135!!For him to fight Mosley,it would be at welterweight,Marquez has nothing there!!He has been dropped by lightweights & smaller!!For him to beat Mosley,he'd have to box 12 rounds without taking a right hand, give Mosley some respect, there is no way Marquez of all people avoids a right hand for 12 rounds.
You are absolutely right. People can't keep their personal biases out of this discussion. If you are pure boxing fan and really know the sport of boxing outside being a coach potato fan...then you could never assume that JMM could Mosley. Mosley just fought a competitive fight against a middleweight in Mora. Mora was a middleweight at fight night and Mosley fought him competitively at his age. Not mention the other times when he fought really big guys like Vargas in their first fight. You guys just don't know boxing...Mosley would KO Marquez and do it very fast. Marquez doesn't have very good boxing skills. He is a warrior who throws a lot of punches and he doesn't good defense either. He doesn't move his head and throw wide shots which are telegraphed and easy to slip and punch straight down the pipe against. You guys are trippin:sleeping:
Mosley is overhyped. Look at what happened to all the technical boxers hes faced. Schooled him. Winky let him hit him with loaded shots and Winky laughed at him. His biggest wins in the last 5 years have been flat footed, slow, fighters.

Marquez would win by UD, if, a big IF, he gets past Mosley's bombs, which I don't think he will.
You are right, TS. sh**ting on Mosley is far idiotic than the other options, Marquez and Berto, both of which would be reluctant to fight Mosley.
The thing about Mosley right now, is I don't even think he could beat someone like Timothy Bradley despite the size difference. And JMM vs. Tim Bradley is a competitive fight to me. But I still can't get over the fact that Mosley is so much bigger than JMM.
Jmm actually gave floyd a better fight and tried to win while shane quit mentally and was getting tagged at will and tried to talk things out in the middle of the fight and paid for it.
Styles make fights...Phony Mayweather's plan of attack was much different between the two fighters. Mayweather played with Marquez...it was more or less than a sparring session. Whereas Mosley hurt Mayweather which brought the best out of him and clearly outclassed Mosley. You guys have to stop comparing what happens in the ring between 2 particular fighters. Each situation is different according to the style of the fighter, what's at stake, etc. Marquez did nothing to Floyd and he couldn't even come close to hurting him or force him to make adjustments in the fight. The Mosley fight will have everyone is awe...trust me on this one!!! We'll see an excellent hard fight or Mosley get stopped for the first time in his career or just maybe we'll see Pac get pushed to the limit. It is guaranteed excellence and I'm sure many people will jump on the bandwagon of wanting and anticipating to see the fight just before it begins. By the way, it will be a pay-per-view blowout...just watch!!!

hard to say. i want to naturally say mosley but with his age there's a chance marquez could pick him apart from the outside and mosley would have no answer to it.
Even at his age Mosley would easily destroy Marquez is a good fighter, but he doesn't have enough savvy to confuse Mosley. The key to beat Mosley is to get him mentally out of his game with boxing skills: excellent foot work, timing, hand speed, defense, and the ability to show that his power has no effect. Marquez doesn't possess all of these skills at the level needed to beat Mosley. I see Mosley KO'ing Marquez within 10 rounds easy!!!
