Ive only seen Khan fight Three times. Against Prescott which he got KO. Then Against Malignaggi and then Maidana. As for Naseem Hamed ive seen more fights of him and he was awkward but devestating puncher . I wonder how they are compared in the Uk since they are both Muslims?? who is more popular or considered the better fighter. IMO Hamed was much better!!!!
Hamed was a real fighter, what I mean is natural, who knew what he was doing. He had many different punches and angles and was far from telegraphic.
Unlike the trainwreck Amir Khan, who is a very good tagging olympic style boxer, but very bad professional. He has bad technique, bad movement and you can read him like a blimp. He seems too stiff and dumb, it seems unnatural for him to fight, I think they are different type of people with Naz being a natural fighter and amir being a robot trying to be a boxer
Hamed was bigger than boxing in the uk. He was loved and hated.
Khan is kinda liked by a few, but not liked by most. And the public dont care about him.
This is actually quite a tough one because their fighting styles are completely different as are the respective personalities they brought outside and inside the ring. The only thing they do have in common is that they are Muslim.
The thing about Naz is that he was the ultimate showman. People either loved him or hated him but either way they all were excited to see him fight. Very awkward, fast, big risk taker, would throw power shots from the weirdest angles, talked a lot....had an ego bigger than anyone, Great fighter.
Amirs personality is completely different and in many ways it feels as if his full potential hasn't been reached yet. Very strong looking fighter, super super fast and can land heavy in many angles, dangerous fighter for anybody he comes up against though admittedly looked way out of his depth earlier in his career against Prescot.
As of now Naz is obviously the higher ranked of the two IMO but Amir could still well go on a run of dominating top fighters(in a weight class that is stacked with top quality opposition) if he just manages to keep that chin protected.
I like Amir. I remember when he was Britains only representative in the Athens olympics for boxing at 17 years of age and he came back with a silver medal. he's a good lad and I wish him well
Do you expect Floyd Mayweather to give us a crowd pleasing fight on May 3?
A question for boxing fans; I was just wondering since Mayweather hasn't given us a fan appreciation fight since his 2007 Ricky Hatton bout. Do you expect him to settle down more with combination punching by trading with Marcos Maidana or just simply outpointing him with movement, clinching and landing single counters and punches at a time? So what do you guys think?
I'm a Naz fan, and being Khans ethnic background I still root for him as people from my background are just starting to get serious about the sport, HOWEVER…
Khan will never be as big as Naz, nor will he ever be better than him.
Naz was a WORLDWIDE superstar, his flashing arrogance bought him crazy attention yet he would back it up.
Naz could take a punch get back up and KO the opponent, heck I bet a prime Naz would KO any version of Khan (other than one who fought Maidana) with his underrated power.
Khan can come close to Naz, but that will require him to concentrate and do something special, which for some reason, I just don't think he can anymore.
Prince was a better fighter and a much bigger draw...
He was arguably one of the biggest stars in boxing in the late 90s but he got overshadowed by all the big stars like Tyson, oscar, evander, Lennox, oscar, Tito, Roy
Thats called being a DUCK!! Marquez never ducked anyone!! That shows what a fighter is made of. Marquez has fought everyone and anywhere. he fought Chris John in Indonesia and lost by decision but most boxing experts had him winning, thats a fighter right there. Like Montiel and Marquez they will go anywhere around the world to fight whoever!! Khan will never do that!!!
Really?
Marquez turned down the Khan fight. Never ducked eh?
Khan is vulnerable so the fact he has come this far means alot. He may not be a KO artist but thats something you are born with and his chin of course, but he has the intangible of being a warrior and will to come back from KO defeats. Thats speaks alot about Khan as a real champion.
Khan went in to Peterson's backyard even though he was the champ and though he got jobbed, when was the last time anyone had the guts to do that?
Hamed was just matched well and ofcourse given his talent and charisma he became a superstar. As an example he never tried unifying with Wilfredo Vasquez in 96, but waited for him to reach 35 to fight him. Hamed never came back from defeat and quit at 28/29 so imagine what Morales and Barrera would have done.
So who is better? Hamed. Because Khan has not retired and cant compare properly, but between Hamed and Khan since thats the topic of the tread id pick Khan for being a real warrior and taking on challenges despite his vulnerability.
Naseem Hamed was a hard hitting one punch KO artist and couldnt be hit very easily, you just cant say that about Khan, So no!! Khan will never accoplish what NAZ did!!
Naz would have Maidana's style for breakfast.
Naz wasn't as affective when he had to lead.
tru story, especially what i would call prime naz (1995 - 1997)... he made you miss and then punished you with his power and accuracy...
by the end he became a slugger so perhaps the 2000+ version may have struggled.
ps. remember that Naz is STILL the youngest british world champion in ANY weight class... so Amir has a lot of catching up to do.... but he still has time altho my opinion is that he'll never climb as high as Naz did
I'm not stupid enough to compare the Barrera fights but lets say Naz beefed up and fought Maidana or Maidana was a 126/130 size fighter.
His pressure style would destroy, and his punch power would neutralize, Naz in my opinion.

Khan has better hand speed and technical/defence skills and has been tested against better opponenents than Naz.
The GREAT thing about Naz was he knew how to make you sit on the edge of your seat and be amazed when he win but still put money on him to win every time! He won your heart and he wowed you with his entrances. he was entertainment gold. Which is where Khan comes up short.
Like people have said he was a good puncher but that was pretty much it skillswise. He had WORSE defense than Khan.
Maidana may well have given Naz more trouble than Khan.
Khan has in no way faced better opposition than Hamed did. Obviously, he hasn't been around very long so it would be very hard to do so. Hamed faced, and defeated, a lot of titleholders and contenders at 126.
Maidana giving Naz more problems than he did Khan isn't saying much, Hamed was a featherweight and Khan is a big 140 lb. fighter.
I agree, even when Marquez first fought Diaz it was in Diaz's hometown of Houston Texas, Marquez already a legend at the time and still went to Houston and Koed Diaz!!
Exactly Marquez fights anyone anywhere, Khan will never do what Marquez has done!!

Naseem lost to a legend in his prime, Khan was KTFO'd in 1 by a Espn fighter.
LOL, True though... Time will tell, I like Khan but that chin is not gonna carry him for long!
:boxing:
If I knew I had a better shot at getting a belt off a guy like Kotelnik and build a few fights towards JMM I'd do that before facing him.
I still think Khan can take him now. He has the smarts.

tru not enititely clear but at the time he was no. 1 with the WBO... so why are you thinking about vacant belts or that you aint ready... if u aint ready then one wonders what the f**k you are doing being the number one ranked challenger.... so instead of pursuing the mandatory line (which he wud have got coz warren is in bed with the WBO)... he moves up and targets the weakest belt holder....
not hating but i think amir and his team realised that they were far more likely to get the belt off kotelnik than go for JMM (who was p4p no. 3 at the time)... good business i suppose ??
Thats the truth!! Marquez should move up to 140 and fight Khan to show what he made of!!Then Pacquiao will want to fight him because he will want to avenge his little friend Khan!!
