In fights like this, alot of the time you kinda know who really won when the hometown judge scored it a draw.
I couldn't have said it much better....The winner knew who won.Pascal didn't look like a guy that won a fight,he looked like a beaten man and throughout the fight he had the look of "why did I try to cherry-pick this monster"!
If the Belgium judge scores the 10th round correctly, Hopkins wins.
I agree. To me (I have scored this fight in various ways -some ways to attempt to favour Pascal where it may be deemed close) and still had Hopkins winning.
The problem is-when we score fights,we have a chance to review the fight and it could be even more in Hopkins favour doing this.Nonetheless, even on watching the fight live (as the judges do when they have to immediately score their impression of the round),I still had Hopkins winning by at least 3 rounds. The closest round to score was indeed round 5.Round 10 was not tough to score,so I am not sure how Van de Wiele could have a draw round on that one and not round 5....then of course,I knew this guy is a problem judge who is likely to score as close to favourably towards the hometown guy based on his history of doing so in the past.
To me,the problem is the knockdown in the first round-it was in the back of the head. The 4th round knockdown was the same shot, yet was ruled a illegal blow,so why wasn't the first round?
Because he felt Hopkins won the round.
That's fair enough, but the round wasn't a dominant one for Hopkins, so I can't see why he would score it like that, but oh well.
I just watched the fight again.
I had Pascal winning rounds 1,2,3,8 and I gave an even 5th round
Hopkins winning 4,6,7,9,10,11,12 and an even 5th round
I had a score total of 114-113 for Hopkins.
Round 5 was the hardest to score in my opinion. I gave it to Pascal first time, then I had it even on second viewing. If I give that round to Pascal it's a 113-113 card.
I don't generally like giving even rounds, so if I had to swing it would be to Pascal.
So, yeah, close fight.
I still havn't had a chance to rewatch the fight, but I wonder why the judge scored it 10-9 in round 1. Did Hopkins have a strong first round? I don't remember too well.
I thought Pascal was winning the round before the knockdown.
If the referee calls a knockdown, I automatically score the round 10-8 unless the fighter who went down can come back and hurt his opponent significantly or knock him down.
I'm pretty sure the judges didn't even write on this. It just looks like all of their scores gathered onto one sheet.

Also, that Belgian judge looked like he had it 10-8 in the first round but changed it after.
smh....

wow the cards are all over the place. It isn't like there is a particularly pivotal round - most are scored differently across the judges.
You're right. There was no real consitency between them. The judge that gave it to Hopkins gave Pascal a round that the other judges gave to Hopkins. Interesting. :boxing:
Hopkins won 11 out of the 12 rounds.
Pascal landed on average less than 9 punches around. Hopkins was the agressor and was robbed plain and simply. Pascal was running for most of the fight and he didnt clearly win a single round. There were no rounds that could go either way.
Round 1 was Hopkins round. The KD was a shot behind the head so not legit.
Round 3 was a 10-9 round because despite the KD Hopkins was winning the round.
Scores should have been 118-109 for Hopkins.
you telling me he didn't clearly win a round from 1-4
stop lying
Would've if I had the voice. I've had a bad cold/ sore throat since about Thursday and could barely even whisper orders to my g/f to fetch me things right now.
I mostly just point and grunt.
:nonono:
Damn...that time of year isn't it. Don't forget to charge all that sh*t to Boxingscene's credit card. They must have an expenses tab for their radio host.
:lol1: You are a character, buddy. Surprised you didn't do a radio show last night to celebrate.

Yeah, it was definitely close, Pascal made the fight harder than it had to be by not letting his hands go more.
When he threw, he couldn't miss Poopkins.
Either way, as you know, I was praying Hopkins would actually "win" and then get robbed, so I'm happy with the result since dumb Americans think it was a robbery and Hopkins can't claim any rights to the title.
I really enjoyed seeing Pascal put him down thrice.
:lol1:

It certainly looks like that to me too.
We can disagree about the result though. I thought Old Popkins won, but **** it was close, so whatever.
