Now, I understand that Darchynian is several fights removed from the Donaire loss. But one must also understand that he has looked great in the majority of these fights and losing to a fighter who is considered to be technically superior or dominant can cause one to change fight plans.
Coming into this fight against Mares, the Darchynian camp obviously put together a completely different plan than what Darchy is used to fighting. They understand that the aggressive bullying style can be detrimental against a fighter with very good accuracy, technical ability and ring intelligence. Especially against one with great combination.
This was apparent in this fight as Darchynian fought unlike Dachynian. This provided a tougher (and more awkward) puzzle for Mares to solve. Darchy was boxing, Darchy was sticking and moving, Darchy was being illusive. This is not the same Darchy that Donaire destroyed.
This is why Mares HAD to become the agressor, this is why he struggled with Darchynian.
When Donaire beat Vic He was undefeated and was a harder boxer to beat. Mares faced an older version with loses, so I can't agree with that point.
IMO Donaire would beat Mares if they fight. Mares would bring a great fight, but Nonito's skills and size will set the pace. I see Donaire winning the mayority of the rounds.
I agree 100%
BTW Shadows how many points do I owe you for our bet? Sorry for the delay as I forgot I had e-points on the line for that fight.
Two million.
Darchinyan's style didn't just changer for his fight with Mares.
In his past few fights (Guerrero, Barcelona) he's been trying to be a bit a more technical, not trying to be overly aggressive as he had been in the past.
He fought in manner similar to the way he did in the past against Agbeko and it didn't work, especially since Agbeko is a strong bantamweight, who can be rough in there. This could be one of the reasons as to why his team has been looking to switch it up a bit.

bottomline is donaire is ten times more talented than mares.....
mares has a fighters heart, but if he can get countered by darchinyan's left hand as much as he did, donaire would f/uck him up.....
the ONLY way i can see mares winning is if he can walk nonito's punches and land his own punch(es) back(which will be difficult with the reach disadvantage...and of course the explosive power of donaire)....nonito is one of them fighters who doesnt like to get hit at all.....so im sure hed go defensive and get outworked and look bad backpedaling
Darchinyan 34 years old
Donaire 27 years old
Donaire already a top 5 P4P at the age of 27 which Darchinyan only got what top 10-12?
At the Age of 30, Donaire is a 4 divisional champ
Donaire being top 5 p4p is bull****, his only ever beaten Darchinyan
TS all of Vic's accomplishments up until now can't compare to Donaire once he beats Montiel this Feb.

I would take Vic now over that Vic strictly based on mindset, he was bound to get knocked out fighting like he did Donaire took advantage.
Donaire would still beat Vic but Vic is fighting better especially compared to the Donaire fight and the fight leading up to it.
Vic's head got big he was best right before that happened, when he had his power but was not totally in love with it and really did nice work.
A brawler without KO power can't compete against elite fighters fact:, they will always coming up short at the end.

The same can be said that Vic didnt fight like himself, you cant just throw away your old style and create a new one. Its better for him to be the old Vic, because not all fighter can throw the same punch Donaire hit him with.
But less effective without KO power.

TS Mares fought a Vic with no KO power at 118 his best shot are meaningless if it can't hurt anyone. His efforts taking shots trying to get in range to land a hit is worthless if it can't put a dent on his opponent.
