Roy Jones said Maidana was landing that overhand right and would eventually lower it and catch Kanh right on the button and sure enough he did. Kahn did a great job of making it through the round, just mentioning it because Roy Jones called it perfectly.
HBO should have never parted ways with him in the first place, he doesn't need to go to any fighter meetings or any of that ****, he knows what's going on in the ring and that's what counts. Who cares if the guy has twin daughters, or any of that other BS.
I think in the 10th round, Roy was saying that after Maidana would throw a lot of punches, if Khan would just hit him in the body he could drop him...
Maidana was so open it was unreal in the 10th. Of course Khan got hit bad but after he got his legs back and started to move around I felt he would get through comfortably but he just did not want to throw any jabs. When Khan was on the ropes Maidana's body was begging to be hit on both sides but Khan was in another world at that point lol so I can't blame him for not taking advantage.
its crazy how on one network is Roy doing the color commentary and on a rival network,at the same time, milk dud was doing the same
Yeah, that's crazy. They are both excellent at their jobs though.
i like how he says 'incenAtives'
'maidana has extra incenatives in this fight'
WAR ROY :headbang:
LOOOOOOL thank you for reminding me of this, cracking up here.
He was simply fantastic on Saturday. It was almost like he took an extra class in broadcasting, because he was clearer and more precise than before in my opinion. And there was less bickering with Larry.
I hope he stays on for the big fights. He also said Khan would be just fine to get through round 11 if he boxed, when Lampley wasn't so sure. I thought Khan would be crucified that round.
He's awesome. He puts Lewis to shame. The Gatti-Mayweather fight, he was play by play-ing the fight and breaking it down that even the casual fans (which I was at the time of the fight) could understand, and I did. Even with the Pac-Morales I fight, he was talking about how Morales was putting Pac in his place in front of his people and taking him out of the fight and that it was swaaying in Morales' favor. Merchant tries to dismiss by saying in his token drunken tone, "well its too early in the fight" and Jones tell him that if he ever boxed, he would know how it felt. theres a YT vid out there.
Yeah he's been doing this for a while, he did the same thing in a Hopkins fight, I think it was against Robert Allen but it was a long time ago so I can't recall exactly. I do remember he said Hopkins was setting a particular punch and sure enough in the next round Hopkins landed the same punch and put the guy down.
Roy is my favourite commentator. knows his stuff
Anyone who saw the sky version - the commentator said Khan had to look out for those wild swings about 1 second before it landed in rd 10
I def agree. Not just cause im a fan but he seriously belongs behind the mic at HBO. Love how Jim asked "how do you block an UPPERCUT ROY" And roy answered by saying you turn your palm and cufff it in towards your chin. Might have said it diff but he is right!!! RJJR to replace stewart!!!
