Who do you ultimately hold accountable when deciding an opponent for Pacquiao?
I believe the manager (Konz) should ultimately be held accountable. The end of the day, the manager is responsible to get the fighter the biggest payday. In my opinion, as a fiduciary to his client, economically speaking, Konz should have elected the trilogy in JMM which would generate more interest and sales than that of Mosley who's coming off sloppy performance against Mora and a loss agains the P4P champion Mayweather.
That being said, I believe there are inherent conflicts of interests Pac faces and that is with the promoter who is in charge of generating interests in fights. There is no reason for the "Pac marketing machine" to slow down now, they (Top Rank) want to squeeze dollar beating a fighter whom is literally on his last leg (sorry mosley, I like you but you had a good run) but is still somewhat marketable and not as threating as lets say like JMM. Furthermore I don't believe either promoter or manager will want JMM at the lower (competitve) weight of 140 or less.
The more I think about it, the whole team is held accountable, and there are way too many points to be made as to why they are all held accountable, but the first two are probably most relavant from a financial perspective.
Afaik, Pac did pick Clottey out of the available
TR guys last year. Who would have thought
Clottey would just play Pac's personal punching
bag in their fight?
But I don't see the point. Why can't he have the
option of picking his fights? He who has the gold
makes the rules. Many boxers who don't even
have the slightest stature of Pac decline fights.
I'd be stupid to pick Klitschko if I were Pac.
Pac could tell Arum to make a fight with anyone he wants, so nobody controls Pacquiao. Its the promoters job to get the fights though, so I'll say Pac is accountable seeing as hes the one who chose the promoter.
how about the "Freddie is influencing Pacquiao to fight this & that" angle?
Freddie & Manny were close like father & son
i think the scenario is like this: Arum would present the list of opponents to Pac then Pac would confide to Freddie
but thats only my theory :D
YOU always hold the fighter accountable?
since when did you actually promoted a fight?
I always hold the fighter accountable, Arum couldn't move unless Pacquiao moved. Like I said before, Top Rank would always choose to make money as oppose to not making any, so if Pacquiao told Arum "I want winner of Bradley vs. Alexander/ or Martinez...THATS IT) Arum would have to give him that. Pacquiao is Arum's boss.
I know Arum's calling the shots, but really he shouldn't be. I still hold Pacquiao accountable because he's not some unknown anymore. Arum's working for him, not the other way around at this point.
Some people might say it is against his nature to speak up or whatever, but I just don't really buy into that argument.
it really is with PAC. but for sure arum has his own choice and will sway PAC into whatever fight he feels would earn the most. and what does PAC knows about promoting? he'd be brainwashed easily by arum thinking mosley is really the best fight for him.
All Pacquiao has to do is look at Mosley's last two performances (I'm sure he's already seen it), unless Pacquiao is really really stupid; which I doubt.

I think PAC knows more than he portrays to know, or comes off like knowing.
I actually think Pacquiao is a pretty damn smart kind of guy, but he has a way with English words that sometimes makes you feel he may be ignorant to certain parts of the business... But he isn't.
He knows his position, he knows who's out there, and he knows what his options are and the risks and rewards of each fight that is chosen.
Arum has publicly said ON MANY OCCASIONS that he presents Pacquiao with options, and manny picks his own opponents
maybe.
but i thought arum is a snake and we shouldn't believe most if not all of what he says.
or should we believe him on THESE OCCASIONS because it makes manny look like the culprit?

was poll intentionally multiple choice?
it's Arum and Pac
Arum because he chooses the opponents
Pac because he could say no if he felt like it
many fighters say "I'll fight whoever my promoter gets me"
Pac is apparently dead serious when he says this
I agree with this.
IMO, the only reason Arum seemingly takes control of which fighter to choose for Pacquiao is because that is the way PAC has treated his fighter-promoter relationship.
At the end of the day, if PAC wants to fight this guy, and not that guy... That's what's going to happen.
If he stands on the sidelines and says that is my promoters job, then that is what Arum will do.
But, in both situations... It comes down to Pacquiao.
What these guys said. I don't think Pac himself is picky about his opponents. But if he was, Arum couldn't force him to fight anybody he absolutely refused to fight on his own volition.
It falls on Pac...
I never have or heard a promoter ducking a fighter, is a fighter ducking a fighter. So it always falls on the fighter.
If Pac straight up said no I will not fight so and so but I will fight make it happen. Arum will make it happen.
So it does fall on Pac. I have not had a problem with Pac opposition. But, 2011 can't be like 2010. He has to pick it up and if he doesn't it falls on him.
I agree with this.
