Is Hernandez making 50% more than Jason Litzau...
And, Jason actually came to fight... came to win... and pulled off the upset.
Hernandez made 75 grand.
Litzau only made 50k.
:nonono:
I seriously hope they get this kid a 6 figure check for his next fight...
I wouldn't even be upset if they took a soft opponent instead of a rematch with Cab or another tough opponent next.
Let him milk the win a little.. make a little ching for himself.
What happens when he's brained damaged?
Like I said.. listen to his interview in the video section of this site...
What's he gonna do? Besides pump gas or work at McDonalds?
Not even being sarcastic... dead serious.
When he's 50... he will be broke as it gets, with possible health complications...
He has to make this money now, and it has to last him..
Well anyone who climbs into the ring AM or pro risks brain damage. A 15 year old kid at my local club died 2 months ago from a sparring session. The risks there for all of us who fight.
The Fighters have to have the sense, and listen to the people who care about them, to know when its time to bow out.
He could do the same job as me. If he needs the money, no shame in what i do and it pays the bills
But i feel like im defending the high earners here when im not, Boxers deserve their money and often ALOT more of it, especially when u look at other sports. I jsut dont pity the guys when they are making so much more than me for doing something they love
I dont wanna get petty here, coz u know i love fighters and the sport. But My job (im a tree surgeon) ive maxed out got all my tickets and my pay is what it is and what it always will be. Jason i really like btw. After he has made his money in boxing theres nothing to stop them getting a job to keep cash of some sort coming in. While he has big lump sums coming in he can set up buisness of his own even? And fighters love to fight, i fight for free and if Jason wasnt a pro i bet he'd still be taking head shots but as an AM without pay
I do hear u tho man and its not fair a hardworker who brings it like Jason gets paid 50k when Berto is pulling in 950k for an easy showcase when he dont even have a big fan base

You want to know the difference?
Two things.
One.. he dedicates his entire life to a sport.
While you may be working on education.. or working up the ranks at a company, increasing your pay one step at a time.
All he has is boxing... and when that is done..
What does he do?
He has to make as much as he can now, because that money has to last him.. or he will be a broke bum for the rest of his life.
While you will steadily make paychecks for the next 40 years...
Litzau has to make all the money for his entire life in the next 10 years.. and it has to last.
The second, and maybe most important.
Is he fights for a living.
He takes punches to the face for a living.
Putting his personal health at risk..... for a living.
He is already showing signs of slightly slurred speech.
There is no amount of money that you can put on that.
So with that said... 50 grand is ****.

...how about the 6-8 weeks of training camp?
A boxer isn't paid for the fight. he is paid for the camp, for his recovery time, etc.
also, he is likely giving 28-33% to his manager. He has to pay the trainer and other seconds. He has to reimburse for any overages from his training camp allowance, etc.
The boxer is self-employed, so unlike you, he pays BOTH sides of the SSI/MC taxes (currently 15%).
When you hear "$50K", please recognize that figute gets cut down by A LOT.
While I agree with the actual take home pay being way less than 50k.
I disagree he isn't paid for the fight.
Sure, the training leading up to the fight or recovery time after.. sure.
But you are also paid for the fight, paid to perform.
Ask Arum if he feels that way after what Clottey did against Pac.
He got a million dollars... theres over a million people watching you.
You are certainly paid to fight.
$50,000 for 10 rounds work is good going whether you are a boxer or not. .

Boxing is a twisted sport from the bottom to the top and often the hard working entertaing fighter gets shat on. But i find it hard to feel too sorry for a guy making 50 k for 1 fight when im lucky if i pull in £30,000 for a YEAR of working my nuts off in all weather u know. But yeah there is a problem and HBO should NOT be paying Berto that kinda cash!

The HBO pay structure is messed up. If I was a guy like Devon Alexander I would be wondering how Berto can get 900K for fighting Hernandez. Devon has been fighting good competition and now he will be fighting the best in his division (Bradley) for $1.1-1.2 mill. You can't even say that Berto is the bigger star. Alexander got 10,000 in St. Louis. Berto couldn't sell a 1000 tickets. So it isn't about the tickets, tv ratings, etc. It is all about Haymon. If I was a boxer right now, I wouldn't worry about which promoter I have but whether Haymon is my manager.

not that you don't know this and apologies if I am coming off as a know it all but let's hope the effort Jason put forth results in him getting a better scale for his next fight
I have a feeling if he isn't offered the Cab rematch we might see him back on small budget TV which would suck
IMO 50/50 split for a Cab rematch would net him 125k, a 150% bump.
that to me is fair
6 figures sounds great to me...

did you see Larry give Lou the thumbs down after the Cab fight?
loved it
Yeah, at first I thought he did it to Jason for interuppting.. and I was like well that was a prick move.. and then someone on here said "no if you look you can see hes doing it to Lou for crying about the decision"
$50,000 for 10 rounds work is good going whether you are a boxer or not. The real problem here is Berto earning $950,000 for knocking out a vastly over matched opponent who didn't stand a chance in hell of winning. HBO are a disgrace for awarding Berto huge paydays for fighting no named, B class opposition. Boxing is in the gutter right now and it needs all the big fights it can get. Sadly, Berto making $1m, means HBO have $1m less to invest in quality broadcasting.
worse:
Judah getting paid only 100K on his 2nd fight with cory spinks.....
that being said....
berto is getting paid WAY WAY WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY 2 much.. he only draw flies to his fights....
Fair enough maybe he did, and I take your word on it.
Sure anyone can be caught, so I take that statement back.
I dont like the UFC, but one thing I agree with is how they acknowledge someone who wins a fight, and they give out a bonus for it.
I like that.
And, it only gives the fighters more motivation to win.
The way boxing is run right now, I understand why Litzau got what he got..
What I am trying to say is, I think it's ****.

HBO and boxing in general tends to reward EVIL.
And PUNISH the GOOD.
Its a microcosm of everything that's wrong with society in general. Its the same reason Justin Bieber is a "star"...
Andre Berto = Justin Bieber
Cannot be argued.
Fucking Illuminati bullshit.
Man I tell you...
I am a Berto fan, you know this.. mostly because of his style and speed etc...
After he knocked out Hernandez, my girl was all impressed and happy and smiling, and I was just sitting there like " yeah.... great..."
She's like I thought you like Berto? Arent you happy he won?
I'm like.... who the **** is Freddy Hernandez?
Ask yourself that question.
She just looked at me :lol1:
I'm like, hey... I'm all for prepping a fighter for the big dogs in the division... but that gig was up about 18 months ago.
I'm still a fan, I still think he can do things against better opposition.
But Im not jumping for joy like these other fans because of Saturday night...
I actually agreed when Larry said... "THat's not Berto... that's the other guy"
Wow Berto is insanely lucky and HBO is just as stupid for investing that much in him. What can anyone do though? Its their money and if they want to put it in someone who I and many fans don't think is worth it well that is just an example of one way the sport is poorly organized and why maybe a fighter who should be getting more doesn't because money is zero sum and there is only so much to go around.

bro
how do you know Hernandez came in to lay down?
I saw him train, he was busting his ass as he knew this was his only chance to get a belt
he got caught with a solid shot and went down hard, no shame in that
but don't mistake his result for the effort he put forth
Fair enough maybe he did, and I take your word on it.

apparently you do all things considered
look it would indeed be nice to reward those for the effort they put forth in the ring and like the UFC have some type of monetary compensation to match what a fighter does
but this is still a business
Yeah, a business of guttersnipes.
and to be honest well deserved. This was a bad example because Manny is popular because of the action he brings
He doesn't deserve the entire purse. But in a business run by guttersnipes, I guess it makes sense.
you should care though
and no fighters considered opponents are necessarily about how if they are popular enough to be on TV. How else would you explain the Michael Trabants and Norberto Bravos being used on HBO as opponents for Berto?
That has more to do with boxing being run by guttersnipes, than any actual merit to your argument. In any other sector of society, this would be called exploitation or slave labor, but boxers don't have anyone standing up for them so in boxing its called a "tuneup"..
But the guy being used for a tuneup has to take real damage to his face and his health, which your silly little "this is a business" justification doesn't address.
nah
considering he has never been paid more than 25k I say this was quite fair to him.
now if you're discussing the obscene amount Berto gets then I am right with you I think Haymon drove the scale to ridiculous levels
the fact that he's never been paid more than 25k proves boxing is run by guttersnipes, and whoever runs Berto and Berto himself should be tarred and feathered for picking on someone like this.
I'm sure Hernandez feels like boxing him did him a huge favor though.
Yeah, Eaner we don't need you to clarify how utterly bankrupt the sports structure is.

This is the same sport where Manny Pacquiao gets 90% purse splits and the other guy gets 10%.
and to be honest well deserved. This was a bad example because Manny is popular because of the action he brings
I don't care how popular a guy is, the other guy is obviously popular enough to be in the ring with him and these splits frankly should never be below 35%.
you should care though

There's no reason why Freddy Hernandez should get 5% of that purse.

The sport is a diabolical joke when it comes to how they treat their fighters.
sometimes
and sometimes fighters get exactly what they are worth
Dude WTF quit crying about someone elses money..
This is boxing if u want a bigger paycheck come back harder and stronger and earn it... Yeah I knw berto didn't deserve it but he was smart to go with haymon
So just take this pay day and a bigger one will come next time but u have to win!
U can't just do one and done
Let litzau come back harder fight like he did and he'll have a bigger paycheck every single time after this
