Not only for the way he carried on with the fight with so much honor, but for the way he fought JMM last night.
Some of those body shots JMM was landing looked massive and Katsidis took them and kept trying to win even shocking the hell out of me by landing that massive bomb to drop JMM.
The guy is everything that is right with boxing. He's got massive character, he cares about the fans and he doesn't cheat them or the sport.
Its a shame that on a night where he's fighting a living legend in one of the most anticipated fights of the year, he's making a third of what that overrated Haymon BUM Berto got to fight some nobody no-hoper on the undercard.
That is a grotesque perversion of reality and pretty much sums up why boxing is a dead sport outside of us nuts who follow it religiously.
Massive respect to Katsidis, I hope HBO continue to pick up his fights and do right by him in the future.
p.s Fuck Larry Merchant for that cheap shot at the end. You got your tears, I hope you're happy you senile old fool.
Don't get your panties in a ruffle......
He has a point there though. Its a JMM love fest on these boards at the moment. This is a thread dedicated to Mick. Talk about him or GTFO.
Great thread btw. Another fantastic effort from this legend of Aussie boxing.
yeah got massive respect for katsisis. he's a true warrior and a top guy. he was class before and after the fight when he came to England to fight mitchell. hope he goes on to the success he deserves.
Even defeated, Katsidis is still top 10 at 135. He'll probably work his way back to another world title shot this time next year. Katsidis is also greatly entertaining to watch, he's one of those fighters who brings new fans to the sport and he should continue to be televised, win or lose.
Yes, you're the only one who understands, obviously.
Except that we have had many JMM appreciation threads here and this is a Michael Katsidis thread.
Go pretend to be more knowing somewhere else, wanker.
Don't get your panties in a ruffle......
I also think JMM deserves a ton of credit for understanding on what the people want to see. He could have ran, boxed more and did the "smart" thing and made the fight much easier for him.
Instead he stood toe to toe and banged it out with a tough fighter who is physically stronger than he is.
JMM is the man, at 37 yrs old and doing what he's doing is amazing, I don't think many people understand what it takes to do what he does.
great fight...good stopage kenny...unlike that a-hole laurence cole, katsidis fought with valor and it would have been nice if he couldve pulled it off for his brother. marqez really fought with class.

+1
The guy just kept coming no matter what .
Win or lose this Katsidis is a must watch.
Forgive my ignorance,
Danny Green really gets more exposure than Mike Katsidis down there??
One question,
:wtf:
I dont think his promoters have done a good job with him. I dont get it, he looks the part, is a good guy and stand up man by all accounts, has an exciting style, power to burn, has been in the blood and guts wars casual and hardcore fans alike love, i just dont get why this guy aint a star or at least a star down Oz
Kats has only had 3 defeats against good/great champions and one could be argued that he won. Been watching this guy for a while and it ****s me no end that Green and Mundine get more exposure than him cos he is humble.
Larry should of just said It was a great performance and I sure your brother would of been proud of you. He kinda of proded at a question/statement and mad it worse.
In his defeat, Kat made a fan out of me. He went toe to toe, pressured Marquez, knocked him down (he looked more hurt than any of Pac's knockdowns too), and forced him to exchange fire to win. He literally brought out the very best offensive arsenal in Marquez, those combos were a thing of beauty. He answered, while he still could, with bombs himself and stung Marquez plenty of times.
As for Larry, what a piece of tash he is. I could see his intent, but his wording came out wrong, it seemed afterwards he only wanted to get the reaction from Katsidis, for HBO's benefit. What a stuopid motherfeck. retire already you senile bastard.

Agreed.
Great effort.
Larry Merchants tactic at the end getting the warrior to blub was also agreed shameful.
At least 98% of that fight was toe-to-toe! I thought Michael might pull it off but the bodyshots did what they're supposed to do. I was flinching every time one landed. He did his brother proud!!
Larry isn't always the soul of tact...
he asked the question as if there was doubt whether katsidis put in a great performance.
what a flea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i bet every fighter on the planet who loses a fight would have loved to have tried as hard as katsidis did. knowing that they did the best they could and can be proud of their effort.

I was wondering if anyone would comment on Larry's stupid question at the end. I think it was tasteless. Yeah, he should have known better.
False, the opposite is true.
nope. i was first.
And, no, please understand, it's not that - I just hate to see crass unoriginality paraded shamelessly.
i was the originator.
Don't worry, I'll just put you on ignore...
thank you
Katsidis get nothing but respect and admiration from me.
He leaves it all in the ring, showing the amount of heart that few have, inside and outside of the ring. His comments after the Mitchell fight show he has as much love for boxing that I do.
I'm a grown ass man, but if I ever see him, I'm going to give him a hug. Hopefully he keeps his head up because he has nothing to be ashamed about.
INJECT, what does "grotesque" mean?
It was a great fight. I fell off my chair from happiness after Katsidis knocked JMM down. Even Brandon Smith did a great job in the corner. Massive respect to this great warriot. I wish him all the best.
And I agree. It is pathetic that Berto makes 900k for fighting a complete bum and that a warrior like Katsidis only makes 500k.
Did you guys know that Katsidis has never been a world champion? I want him to fight Soto to finally get a belt. This guy deserves it more than anyone.
PS: His entrance is so epic !!
Well Soto probably won't even beat Antillon. And, anyways whoever wins that could be fighting Rios next.
He hasn't won a World champion because he has faced pretty tough comp and he was really close but one shot from hell that Casamayor landed ruined that.
He could face Murray next in the U.K or if GBP wants to do right for him have him face Robert Guerrero and have it on HBO. Neither are title holder but I think good comeback fights that he would/should be favored in winning.
Massive amount of respect for Katsidis. He fought a hell of a fight against one of boxing's best in the world and managed to score a knockdown on him which is comprised of a very short list. I choked up a little when he was asked about his brother. You can definitely see the pain he's still enduring.
Ive always liked Katsidis, but even in a loss...he gained a fan lastnight.
