I think bayless was just protecting the fighter, it was pretty obvious katsidis was done and bayless just saved him of further punishment.
It really is that simple. I don't understand how it can be viewed any different.
uhhmmm no he stopped punching for like 1.5 minutes.. if he was still punching then yeah
Yeah, Kats was just standing there getting beat and not retaliating. That's when a ref is supposed to stop a fight, especially with someone like Katsidis who would not have gone down or admit defeat. It was a great time to stop it.
It was kind of quick but JMM did land like 20 straight hard blows on Katsidas and add into that the pace the fight was fought at I have no real issue with the stoppage.
Although I can understand why people would say it was kind of quick, but hey both men will get to fight another day I think that is a win for all involved.
The ref is there to protect fighters, not let them continue getting beat up so they can develop some brain damage.
The Margarito-Pacquiao fight was good, because it was a cheater getting beat up. Katsidis is a good man and a brave fighter and deserves to fight another day.
It's 2010, we're no longer barbarians and we shouldn't complain about stoppages like these anymore. Taking unanswered punches is no longer cool.
Yes, I do.
Katsidis was hurt, but he was still fighting back. You should only stop it when the other opponent isn't returning any punches. Not just because someone gets hurt at one moment. Marquez was knocked down and hurt in the third round, yet the referee didn't stop it then.
It was a bad stoppage and Katsidis deserved to fight on.
Kat started backing up that round and Marquez could not miss. Katsidis' legs started to wobble several times, and he was being ripped with uppercuts and straight right hands. Bayless was looking right in Katsidis' eyes when he stopped the fight, so he obviously saw something he didn't like. He gave Katsidis plenty of time to start throwing back, but he was just getting chased around the ring, getting hammered. Maybe not the most exciting stop, but I'm not going to question a ref who's in good position and looking after the fighters well being. I have no idea how Katsidis stayed on his feet, to be honest. Some of the uppercuts he was eating were brutal. The guy has a heart the size of the moon.
I agree.
Merchant wanted to see tears, and he pushed and pushed until he got them. Nice going you old ****, he could have just said "Thank you for putting on a great performance, you're brother would be proud."
What a classless douche!
GREAT POST, please give this guy GREEN/GOOD karma!
Lary Mercunt is a classless prick
I wanted to see the k.o too. The thing that really put a damper on it for me was the tactless larry merchant asking him if his brother would have approved of his performance.
I don't know what the hell larry's goddamn problem was last night.
That was shameful man.
:nonono:

you sadistic fuk_ers... you actually want to see death in the ring? Kat was running and was wilting, his legs had gone and he just wanted his bed.. You dont allow extra punishment when a fighter acts like that.
I thought it was a bit premature considering it Kat wasnt wobbling, and had been throwing all night.
He has been hurt far worse before and come back to win.
You got a point. I forgot it was on a break. If it wasn't I would have thought a standing 8 would have sufficed if possible.
And yeah I thought he stoped the cotto fight to early. He could have let him finish the round. I chalked it up as them wanting to give manny the tko.
Are you mental? Cotto was beaten up by round 9. It should have been stopped then.
Personally I think it was stopped a little early, but Katsidis himself didn't seem to dispute it, so I guess if he was okay with it, I don't have any reason not to be.
Someone should ask Katsidis the question now that the adrenaline has worn off.
I think a standing 8 would have been appropriate, but I have no quarrel with the stoppage. Kat didn't throw a punch for like two minutes. Those body shots and ridiculous uppercuts took the life out of Kat. Plus, he absorbed 350 shots. That amount of hits is maybe typical of a full 12 round fight. The fact that Marquez gave him that many in only 9 rounds shows the abuse that he absorbed. I give praise that prior to the 9th, nothing was bothering Kat, but he couldn't take it.
I don't know about a standing 8. The stoppage was during a break, for all we know he could have recuperated since he took the last few shots well.

I see a pattern in the way Baylis stops fights, He did the samething in the Cotto-Pac fight where he stopped it in the 12th round after a little barrage from Pac, He could have stopped the fight earlier around the 9th round but he didn't
No. He did right. Jars was getting hit clean and to often. Maybe a standing 8?
The berto fight was stop a little to early. My guess is it was done to make berto look good(which he did. Given the opposition he still looked good -no h0m0-)

I think the Berto fight was stopped prematurely but Katsidis was getting broken badly in that fight!!
Yeah, I know, Katsidis was out on his feet for a second, not returning punches and counldn't touch Marquez with any punches.
The Berto fight was a bit premature, Hernandez was wobbled but looked ok when the ref called it.
He was hurt and getting beat on but it was not that career ending or anything.
i agree
i had money on the fight ending after the 9th
bayless could have let it go on but katsidis was not throwing back for a while and Marquez was landing really hard accurate combination on kats that were landing flush.
so in my mind it was a justifiable stoppage but i dont think he would have been criticize either if he would have let kats go on a little longer
