Manny is at a different point in his career than he was in 2008 when he fought Diaz. When he fought Diaz he was just starting his trek up to weights beyond 130 where he had been below his whole career. Since then he really has only extravaganza type fights (with the exception of Clottey, which was made when another fight fell through ^.^). After the Hatton's, DLH's, Cotto's & Margarito's its sort of a step back to go to Berto (at least in Team Pacquiao's opinion). Right now they are in legacy building mode, back in 2008 they were just looking to pick up a title in a new division and start to move up in weight. For the record I would have no problem with Pacquiao taking on Berto.

Diaz was Pac's first test as he went up to a higher weight division, makes sense right? He was still a champion and had more credibility than when floyd fought baldomir. At least Pac destroyed Diaz instead of running the whole fight.

What is your argument about Clottey? Clottey is the toughest you could make at the time. After beating Cotto there really was nobody else but Mayweather( who refused to fight)and margarito( who Pac eventually fought and broke his orbital bone) Clottey was a threat and NOT BY ANY MEANS a slouch fighter who was used to protect Pacquiao.
