Many free tickets were given away for the fight.
As usual, Bob Arum can lie to the newspapers, but the real information is with the state revenue departments.
Clottey - Pacquiao: 36,371 "paid"; $6.3 million revenue.
Margarito- Pacquiao: 30,437 "paid"; $6.4 million revenue.
According to state documents, the promoter-announced attendance of 51,000 was 'wildly inflated'.

Looks like the money is still in vegas. You can sell fewer seats for A LOT more money. You sell seats in a stadium and it'll fill up if the ticket price is low.
smple logic of supply versus demand....over suppl(seats) means lower (price) demand whereas under supply(seats) means higher (price) demand

my figures are from the documents filed with the state regulators.
you are quoting an "astute businessman" who has every reason to spin the numbers positively. And has already lied to you?
which is more credible?
dude, at a certain point, you guys have to be willing to discuss facts. This isn't Fox News Channel.
show some proof
the fact that a asian from a third world country who cant speak english coming from a lower weight class has outsold or even is a challenge to a american fighter just means floyd has already lost the war.
i mean it must have emotionally hurt you really bad that you are relegated to pretending to be a homosexual asian man online & it hurts that same asian from a lower weight class who barely speaks english, has a shoe & apparel deal & floyd doesnt.
could floyd do 700k ppv & 50k attendance vs a unknown ghanian?
could floyd do 1mill ppv & 40k attendance vs a disgraced cheater?
floyd coultn even sell 5k in his own freaking hometown ffs....
Why all the disclaimers? Asian, non english speaker, etc. Does that really help your argument? Julio Ceasar Chavez did more revenue than Whitaker. Tito did more revenue than Winky. Those are two examples of foreigners who never even attempted to learn the language too. So leave the disclaimers out, it makes u seem like ur trying to move the goalpost to justify your stance. And while ur going on a rant about what Floyd couldn't do, take a stab at what he did do. Like the highest grossing fight ever. Or maybe the superior numbers against common opponents. The fact u had to reach back to his 130lb days to come up with an argument proves u don't have a lot of bullets for this fight.
you are ASSUMING that he really did
I'm willing to have you tell me where all the money was made on this fight since there was $18 million in guaranteed purses for the main event.
...I'm willing to listen.
@ jack2x:
whenever you are ready.
assuming????
the same way that you assume about the tickets sales since both of our arguments are coming from articles print or web...and do you think that an astute businessman will ruined his very name telling the world that he will give additional bonus then lies about it?? you must be crazy if you do that

you are ASSUMING that he really did give a bonus,
Why would you assume that? because a promoter said it? Because a varny like Jerry said it?

Floyd has never even sold out the MGM against a Margarito caliber opponent, and the MGM seats 15k. Pac just did double that.
Next time you go to the store, try to make your purchases in "seats".
Yeah because the size capacity of MGM has nothing to do with it? Spastic.

then you already lose your argument saying - " Jerry has learned an expensive lesson"...coz how can an astute businessman give a bonus if he is losing profit from ticket sales????

because jerry said so...right?
Like Arum said there were 51,000 seats sold. right?
Like Arum said that manny's guarantee was $15 million...right?

they will give away about 20,000 tickets. But not at Texas Stadium. Jerry has learned an expensive lesson.

if you get mentioned in the atlanta business chronicle then you're smart enough to argue numbers with anyone on here.
what makes him stupid is hate towards pinoys.
nope. I'm an idiot who knows nothing about business

if jerry jones is losing from the ticket sales by giving away 10000-20000 tickets then why did he still give a couple of million dollar bonus to clottey???????
For a finance guy, you are pretty stupid... HBO is a premium network.
Then you have sponsors, copyrights and live gates. Yes it's "free".

do you understand why "free" was in quotes.
Because I realize there is sub fee.
But the HBO Boxing budget is in direct relationship to the revenues generated for the affiliates.
I'm sorry if you don't understand that.

Please cut out the BS.
Pac is a big draw and so is May. So what they gave away free tickets .
Thats a good thing because it allowed fans who couldn't afford to pay for a ticket a chance to see a great fight live. There is no need to argue over it anymore. Pac/May are the biggest stars in boxing. They both are huge PPV and gate keepers. Let it go already damn.
you are asking for a level of intelligence they don't have.
they would rather sell a bunch of $50 seats, give away half, just to say they fought in a big stadium in dallas.
That's the way it should be..... Boxing needs more events, less Vegas.
Maybe its not the best for the bottom line, but raising the profile of the sport is good.
Sporting events lie about attendance figures all the time.
