I can't believe everyone is rating this guy so high on the pound for pound list. Okay he knocked out Williams. Williams was overrated to begin with, Kelly was also overrated. Let's see him fight a true middle weight. Don't get me wrong Martinez is a really good boxer and may be at the top of the p4p list one day, but I want to see this guy fight a little more before I make a decision on him. We all know what happened with Victor Ortiz.

:dunce:
Kelly Pavlik: 36-2 (32 kos), WBC and WBO mw champ of the world from 2007-2010, career mw fighter as well
Sergio Martinez: 46-2-2 (25 kos), WBC lmw champion, WBC and WBO mw champion and recognized lineal champ, hasn't lost a fight in 10 years, knocked out Paul Williams (never been done before and Williams had a 6 inch height and reach advantage on Martinez), had no amateur career and didn't start boxing till he was 20 ,fought in obscurity for years in Europe before even getting a shot on HBO.
Victor Ortiz: 28-2 (22 kos), never won a major title, was an HBO hypejob from day one (I called Maidana over Ortiz too by the way), and had an extensive amateur career.
Ortiz is still raw and barely tested, Martinez has 10 times the experience that Ortiz has and had to earn the fame he has, Ortiz had it spoon fed to him.

I like Martinez, and I think he beats both Floyd and Pac, but I am not gonna start acting like he is pfp no1. I think pound 4 pound both Pac and Mayweather are better the only reason Martinez would win is because he is bigger. I do think that he may one day be p4p no1 but not yet.
I very much agree with this statement. Martinez is a very good boxer but Pac/Floyd have been doing their thing for the better part of a decade against guys better than Pwill/Pavlik. Not trying to downplay what his man has achieved, however, I think people are really caught up because he's had very exciting wins RECENTLY.

I love boxing fans who make their "overrated-underrated" lists only by who a boxer beat, because they have no ****ing clue how to throw a proper punch or what good footwork is.
Martinez is a good boxer, he beat Pavlik,Cintron,Williams and is a lot better than Sturm or Sylvester who are also beltholders.
I don't get it. When Martinez KO's Williams in their rematch he's overrated, but when Williams KO'ed Quintana in their rematch he showed that the first fight was a fluke lol Martinez isn't overrated and if you think number 3 P4P is too high, then who would you consider to be better P4P?
Maravilla is UNDERRATED if anything.
His spot in the p4p list has been overdue.
He deserves recognition and may well be a favorite against Pac if they ever meet weight.
His record is nice; he is a skilled southpaw that is well conditioned and he is fast on his feet with fast hand speed to compliment it. He will give problems to anyone who steps in the ring with him.
Overrated??? Are you feeling okay?....His the Rings recognized middleweight champ and their number 3 p4p.....and you dont get on there if your overated!
Overrated Martinez who moves up in weight to fight bigger guys, gets robbed 1st time against P.Will.. goes on to dismantling Pavlik and avenges a 'loss' to P.Will by KO.. even though he was fighting at a bullshit catchweight.

regardless, pavlik is a lot bigger than martinez and pwill height and reach give anyone problems p4p. both are good wins and considering pwill was a p4p fighter, and the manner martinez KTFO pwill, you have to put martinez up there on the p4p list.

In my opinion he should be ranked #1!!But I'd call a fighter that beat 3 top rank stablemates with 2 at catchweights overrated!!I'd also call a certain fellow that goes on vacation every time a serious threat shows up overrated, but i wouldn't call a man that just destroyed the Punisher & beat the brakes off of Pavlik overrated!!Especially when the pfp king just beat a handpicked opponent in a division that Martinez ruled, just saying!!
Knocking out Paul Williams in the 2nd round >> Anything Floyd or Manny has done in years...
If he is so great why didn't he knock him out the first fight? Any fighter can be knocked out, just because a fighter knocks out another doesn't make the p4p no.2. For example Prescott knocked out Amir Kahn, so I guess he must be a better boxer than Kahn because of that.
lol, its funny how sergio went from underated to "overated" in 1 fight
That's boxing for ya. It's always been like that.
It really makes me wonder wtf Paul had to do not to be considered over-rated though. He jumped weight classes because no one would fight him, fought guys no one else wanted to fight.
Fought against EVERY style out there. Winky, Cintron, Margarito, Quintana twice, Martinez twice.
If your favorite fighter in those weight classes fought all those guys I guarantee he walks away with as many if not more losses than Paul did.
Yes I know who is, if you can recall a couple years ago everyone was talking about how great Ortiz, then he quits against Marcos.
Sergio would never quit in a fight.
Maybe you havent seen the first Paul williams fight. It was fireworks. And your comparisons make no sense. Your comparing him to Ortiz who quit, while Martinez never came close to quiting.

Dude, he only lost one time in his career to a prime Margacheato and he only had a few years of experience when he fought Margacheato.
He KO'd gay ass Cintron and was robbed.
He beat Williams in the first fight. He KO'd Williams in the 2nd fight.
He destroyed Pavlik in their fight.
