Who would win @ 135, 147, 154...
Who's greater on the ATG list... Support your claim...
Roberto Duran, standing 5' 7", in his first fight at 160lbs, challenged for the Middleweight title against Marvin Hagler.
Should Manny's next fight be for the Middleweight championship?
Any current future HOF will lose to a HOF fighters from the 80's back. It's just how most people tend to be bias to the past all time greats even though most fighters today are doing scientific approach of boxing, right down from nutrition to the approach of boxing technique.
this guy is comparing guzman-pacquiao at 130 to margarito-floyd at 147.
lmfao
margarito was the #1 fighter at ww BEFORE floyd moved to 147.
even after he lost to pwill he was still top 3-4 and eventually #2 and then #1 again.
guzman only became top ranked at 130 AFTER barrera , morales , marquez and pacquiao ALL left or retired.
ding ding ding.
Sorry but Duran has this. Duran's counterpunching ability while slipping punches, monster chin and just had an array of punches with high work activity. And half way into his career he started to have sloppy training habits and will still win. It would had been a great fight if these two ever met but Duran has more dept and boxing IQ
For a second there I thought you were describing pac
^^^
Duran blows hot and cold, he wouldnt beat manny. Put your money on Pac as he is more consistent at 140+.
Duran is good at slipping the jab and stuff, but we know manny dont throw many jabs as they are not his main priority. He uses his great feet to come in and out with speed and he is like a jack in the box with his movement around the ring.
When he is in range he would unload and hurt Duran like he did cotto and everyone else he fights.
Epic troll thread is epic lol
But I'd bet Duran would end it to the head or to the body fairly quickly. No one Paq has faced above 130 has had the physical attributes that Duran had. Manny couldn't even stop Margarito and Tony's head is a free target for 12 rounds. I can't imagine him lasting against Duran who would actually be landing and fighting back in those same 12 rounds. I mean one slow thudding body shot from Margarito had Manny hurt. If Duran ever had Manny on the ropes the way Margarito did, I honestly think the size difference would have shown up drastically.
Duran by obliteration.
lol Cute thread though.
Riiighhhtt... Why don't you go write a book or something. You're analysis of Pacquiao makes him look like the greatest bum ever heard. He can't box, he can't brawl, he can't even move, he can't do sh!t. I thought Flomos and us pactards were soupy fanboys. But i guess you, old man takes it to the extreme.
I know, you have got to either laugh or cry at these chumps. Always thinking their clever and telling us what Pac cant do, when the busted up faces of Pacs opponents shows what he can and does do.
Pacs opponents tell us how great he is and all the amazing things he can do, and the Flomos or pac haters go into fantasy land.
Pac beats Duran. Too much foot speed and mobility, and combinations would take duran out. Pac dominates all his opponents apart from 2 or 3. Which if he now fought would dominate. Whereas Duran either lost, or went life and death with countless opponents.
I hate fantasy match-ups. Because at the end of the day, it's just a FANTASY.
Manny is a great fighter just like Duran, Haggler, Leonard and the rest of the ATGs. We will never how Floyd Jr. and Pacquiao would have fared against the ATGs of the past. Proclaiming that they couldn't even hold their ground against any of the fighters of the past is groundless and should be given a second thought.
I honestly think that Pacquiao or Floyd Jr. can give any of the past ATG worth the trouble. I don't know if they would win or lose but i'm not going to jump in the bandwagon that Pac or Floyd Jr. are a class underneath the past ATGs.
Its not about past vs present its about the styles. I think Manny could beat Pernell Whitaker because of the styles
For gods sake! Look at the Cotto fight at 147. If Pac fights like that, after three rounds he has no legs whatsoever to move in or out. He gets beaten up and knocked out. Seriously.
The biggest misconception though is how people think Pac has some kind of amazing footwork. He moves in straight lines 90% of the time and the only reason fighters like Marg can't keep you is because they are so slow you could run around them three times and they still wouldn't have moved.
Anyway, as usual most people have no clue here. One of the things that gave these actual prime HOF, good fighters serious trouble against Duran was his speed, defensive ability and his mastery of feints. They didn't know how to handle that type of fighter with that type of skill, experience and cunning.
Pac definitely doesn't know how to. He knows how to fight and a fight it would be. Imagine a Marquez fight, with better defense, more power, and yes, more speed but most importantly, just as great countering ability, much better body shots, more stamina and greater all around skill. Pacquiao does not win this fight and even Roach knew it. It's just one of those fights he wouldn't know how to change up in and get past things. His only chance of winning would be inside because he wouldn't be able to stop Duran getting in....and he can't fight on the inside.
He doesn't have a jab to speak of, he doesn't have a height or size advantage, his speed wouldn't be much of a factor because Duran handled speed easily and the speed difference would actually not be that big at all anyway at 135/147.
One other factor people need to take into consideration. Duran had a better chin than Margarito and was never busted up in his career. He was cut in one fight in his whole 100+ career and never swelled up. He just didn't get hit. This isn't Cotto or Margarito with no defense whatsoever, poor speed, bad chin, no stamina etc.

In his prime Duran would kill Manny I am talking about a 15 round slow but steady destruction. Duran would do the same think Mayweather would... make Manny miss. Manny has never fought an elusive fighter.
Let's see Floyd's.
Hagler KO Floyd
Leonard SD Floyd
Hearns KO Floyd
Duran TKO Floyd. Floyd could nick a decision here but, if Duran is at his best no chance.
ummm........no one pacquiao has fought could even come close to beating duran.
I was a duran fan back in the day so i can talk from my head on this. Kirklaing laing a brit from my neighbourhood, Buchanan another brit who was unlucky to lose. Kirklaing laing beat duran. Cotto is one of boxings biggest names and he would have been a toss up between him and duran. Cotto would have had more success against Duran than he did pac. Kirlaing laing isnt class above Pacs opponents and Kirk beat duran as did others not as good as pacs opponents.
I don't think Pacquiao could have dominated one weight class for his whole career considering he lost to Torrecampo and Singsurat at 112 alone, then against Morales at SFW. At WW today he loses to Mayweather, at JMW he loses to Williams and would have lost to Martinez if he was there too. At LW he would have lost to Guzman. There really isn't one weight class I can see Pacquiao dominating like Hagler did MW.
One word......BS! Dominating a division would be the easiest thing in the world for pac to do. Once youve beat a generation in your weight class it takes years and years for the new crop to come threw and thats nearly a whole career come and gone. Dominating a division when it is a weak division must also be taken into consideration.
He is a winner and just wins, even stepping up in weight class. Staying in the same division, seriously is the easiest thing to do.
GTFO
Duran got dominated by that HIV positive Puerto Rican dude(I forgot his name but he died of AIDS).
Pacquiao would decimate him in 1 round or less!
i really think out of the 4 horsemen of the 80's Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, and Duran Manny only has a shot against Duran. If he stuck to the in and out tactic he has lately and really kept his head he could win a decision against Duran. Hearns would knock Manny out. Leonard would beat him in an easy decision and I think Hagler wins by knockout.
I think Duran beats him up.. Manny gives people the opportunity to fight on the inside too often. Manny does have great footspeed and movement but duran wouldve been cutting off the ring like in the buchannan fight... He would land hard bodyshots like Margarito did..
Duran may even stop manny early if he starts fast enough.. If Manny lets duran pound away at him while he's on the ropes, then I think the fight ends quickly.
Manny Pacquiao is far from a good defensive boxer but it doesn't take a genius to think about how Pacquiao can take Leonard 'running' gameplan to beat Duran or have a chance at beating him. I'm a Pac hater but if you can't recognize Pacquiao has the tools to beat Duran, handspeed, footwork and he's a southpaw then you're going a bit overboard about the "golden era". Let's not act like Duran had some Whitaker-like defense combined with Valero like power. Duran was good at what he did, and that was fighting toe to toe.
Ok. Find me one flush, hard punch that Duran gets hit with against one of the greatest boxer/punchers of his era, champion and HOF LW in their unification match? I'll wait. Oh, and Duran happened to outbox the HOF 'boxer'.
No, that's just it. He doesn't. He can't move backwards and shoot out a jab because he's can't fight like that and never has in his career. His jab is pathetic in comparison to someone like Leonard. Other boxers who were a hell of a lot better than Pac could ever e at it got destroyed. Buchanan, great a HOFer and who had one of the very best jabs and boxing skills of that era, got dominated. He didn't have the height advantage, the youth advantage, but he was still ridiculously fast with a great jab. It didn't work.
This is the reason so many stupid people can't understand certain fights and styles. Pacquiao cannot 'box'. He can fight like a crazy little madman, but he can't box to save himself. If he could he would have had no trouble at all outboxing Morales, Marquez etc when they started to outbox him like other good boxers were able to easily. Marquez couldn't handle boxers that well and neither could Morales, so why didn't Pac suddenly take these greats footwork and boxing skills and use them then? Because he doesn't have any!!! Nor has he suddenly and mysteriously gained top three ATG WW boxing skills of Robinson and Leonard. **** me but some people are ****ing moronic around here .... :lol1:
Pac's now suddenly as good a boxer as Leonard is.....:dunce: Ahhh, forget it....you just can't talk to some people.
What's the southpaw advantage? Do you know that Duran struggles with them? Cause he had no problem at all with them. He knocked out the five he fought at LW and WW, was winning against arguably the greatest southpaw MW of all time up until he ran out of gas because he was fat and at too high a weight for his body. Yeah, the southpaw stance really troubles him.
pacquiao has the tools to outbox people but he doesn't use it.
pacquiao has great speed and footwork but he doesn't use it to box. i'm fine with that. i like watching him fight the way he is.
i wouldn't say pacquiao has no boxing skills , he has shown a little he just doesn't commit to it.
probably the most he ever committed to it was delahoya but even then he slugged it out.
