who gives a sh1t what the split is..i just wanna see the damn fight.i wont be getting paid from it..in fact ill be paying to see it
Exactly. who cares who's selling more, or who brings in more gamblers, and gate revenue or attendance. Fact is, Pacquiao/Mayweather would be the most successful boxing ppv ever, and that feat wouldnt be possible without either fighter. Both fighters are the draw for that fight. Both guys should just put their ego's aside and fight 50/50 and then they can make 50 million each. Both fighters are making these negotiations harder then they need to be.
damn
1.4 and they're still tallying the rest up? great ppv!
Because PPV numbers are the necessary evil nowadays, I would have to agree with you. It seems to have been a great ppv from a ppv selling standpoint.
u joking right?
so Hatton, JMM, and Mosley were PPV Kings?
Well...we clearly have different perspectives. Here's mine.
Hatton, hype job or not, had a following of UK folks and curious American's. The biggest drive here is Hatton's undefeated record against Floyd's and Hatton's high knockout percentage. Bottom line, people tuned in to see Floyd deal with a "challenge" and possible knock out and/or beating. Most, I believe, were there to see how Floyd would deal with Hatton, and not how Hatton would deal with Floyd.
Marquez - This attraction had more to do with Mayweather's retirement and possible ring-rust than anything else. With Marquez established as a good counter-puncher who gave Pacquiao hell, the major triangle theory was put in place by the media in regards to, again, how Floyd would deal with the time away from the sport and the challenge of Marquez. The selling angle was geared towards a challenge based on ring rust and Marquez' greatness/toughness.
Mosley - Long overdue if you ask me, but I can't give this matchup too much grief. I don't buy the "Mosley is an old man" label, as our boy was rocked legitimately and took the shot relatively well. It was a hard punching boxer/puncher vs. the slick boxer. If there was any angle, it was the notion that Mayweather was finally fighting a legit Welterweight in the last few years. Would he still dominate? It wasn't a hard angle, but it was asked more than once.
I guess the main thing that I believe is that there is a percentage of folks out there who tune in to see what the opponent will do to Floyd and how Floyd will cope and not the other way around. There are those tuning in to see Floyd do his thing as well, don't get it twisted. The anticipation to see Floyd involve himself in a hard scrap is there with these challenges and many people want to see him scrap, get rocked, and cope. the fact that it seldom happens keeps people coming back for more.
I think it legitimately makes him a draw, but not necessarily for the greatness that he brings. This is the unfortunate catch-22, as well. People want to see Floyd in a war, and when he makes the confrontation look easy and wins easy, it's not seen as an impressive win. Floyd is correct when he says that "they" keep building up fighters to beat him...he's so dead on with that statement and THAT is what my post is about. People want to see how he will cope, rather than the opponent.
And really, that's the bottom line. Many folks have a hard time wrapping their heads around that idea.
Again...this is just my opinion. I fully respect yours.
Let's keep it ALL in perspective. Mayweather was NEVER the PPV king. The guys he fought were. E.G Oscar De La Hoya. His PPV numbers were sad when he was not fighting Mexican fighters with a HUGE following etc.
Besides, Mayweather has been exposed as a ***** and most tune in to see him lose, not cuz they admire his courage.

there are fake numbers all over.
1.4 million is fake number and now you say 850k which is fake number.
why dont we wait on real numbers at end of week.
arum predicted that this would do well over 1.3 million buys.
arum also predicted a record breaking 60k+ seats
It usually takes over a week before they get all the numbers in. Why make a thread about a complete lie? Is your life really that pathetic?
i will not insult on people but it is bad to make up numbers. not fair to other posters
