Damn...
Make Cotto vs Berto!!! WCB HBO! Madison Square Garden!
From ESPN article:
Andre Berto
One area where Greenburg has received massive criticism is regarding welterweight titlist Andre Berto, who has been given soft touch after soft touch on HBO for big money.
"The bottom line is Andre Berto will be in a big fight in early 2011, or he won't be on HBO," Greenburg said. "Whenever he fights next, if it's not against a big-name opponent, then you won't see him. He knows that, his management knows that. And his promoter knows that. Believe it or not, they feel the same way. We've been very patient. Now it's time. If it doesn't happen, so be it."

Andre Berto epitomizes every thing that is wrong with boxing.Something is wrong when such a boring,average,glass-jawed coward, that can't draw flies to sh^t and rings in no ratings,is making the amount of money that he is against such piss-poor opposition. It's not a case of him having a "big fight" - the joker won't even fight a credible contender within his own division.
And Ross Greenberg is a f^cking f^ggot that doesn't know a damn thing about boxing, too. He and his network are so out of touch with what's actually happening within this sport and what fights people actually want to see.People don't want these talentless hacks being sold as stars and shoved down our throats.
Can Berto make 140,outside of Pacquiao and Mayweather the WW division is not exactly stacked, the only big names i can think of at 147 would be Clottey and Mosley and neither of them deserve a title shot.
^^^^^^^^^^
I say put him in there vs Paul Williams! Goosen said PWill is going back down to 147 and Patterson said they arent taking soft touches....
Lol. It looks like HBO is starting to wisen up when it comes to this guy.
yeah but it was their fault to begin with by allowing Haymon to control the talent content of their boxing programming in the first place. This allowed weak opponents such as Freddy Hernandez to be on TV while Berto raked in 7 figure paydays
Greenberg and Davis ran HBO's boxing poorly for years and once they realized their asses were on the line they choose to NOW call fighters like Berto to the floor.
It's good to see a network finally say "Enough is enough." And they're right. Berto's not a prospect anymore, he's just a guy who hasn't fought the big one.
Damn!!! Wonder what Berto says about this. Berto-Cotto would be the shieet.
We all knw damn well cotto and his camp have no interest in fighting Berto.
even if hbo drops him, berto already took more money from hbo than what he deserved. hbo has only themselves to blame, they took a gamble on berto and it didn't paid off. they put too much trust on berto's management...al haymon in particular.
about fvcking time, But this isnt just Team Berto's fault. HBO too want to protect him until they feel they can get back their money.. Now they dont want to absorb any blame for some of the opposition that Berto has been facing.
Exactly, HBO goes out of their way to hype a certain fighter, put him up against easy opposition, make him look good. Then when people stop buying it, they act like their not at fault. I call BS.
I wanna see Berto-Clottey. Clottey would spank him badly and he deserves a chance after all the tough ass fights he already did.
classic pac man fan...........Clottey is the best. He is am african warrior.
Your crazy. Berto would ud clottey. Plus how would that satisfy the anti-berto masses? They say he needs better fights, but mosley doesn't qualify. Ortiz and hatton aren't good enough for them either. If he fought his mandatory most would rip him hardest. What next then? If he tries to fight pac, his detractors say how dare he, who does he think he is calling out pac man? The bash berto fans dog him for fighting guys from the division directly beneath his, yet they demand he fight a champion from the division directly above his.
Just admit it berto v. anyone wouldn't change the venom most have for him. There really is a pattern with a certain group of fighters
make :
cotto vs margrito 2.
and get :
mosley vs Berto happening.
even if shane gets outboxed and hurt badly by pac,it would still be a test for berto, and i think berto woudl fail, ide happily see shane knock the sh(*t into berto to take his title.
then should cotto beat margarito:
cotto vs mosley 2 !.
The way it could have and should have went down. From the HBO and the State of Boxing article.
“Golden Boy gets advance notice of HBO’s strategic planning,” complains one promoter.
“Richard Schaefer tells managers and fighters about dates that the rest of us aren’t even aware of,” says another.
A refrain that rival promoters say they often hear from Davis is, “We don’t have any open dates. Why don’t you talk with Golden Boy.”
There was no room at the inn for Zab Judah until Kathy Duva of Main Events (Judah’s promoter) went to Richard Schaefer. HBO then agreed to televise Judah vs. Lucas Matthysse from the Prudential Center in Newark on November 6th, but insisted that it be paired with Robert Guerrero against Vincente Escobar. Matthysse, Guerrero, and Escobar are all Golden Boy fighters.
“Look at the undercard for Judah-Matthysse,” Duva says. “I wanted to work with Russell Peltz and put Mike Jones in the co-feature against another top welterweight. Mike is from Philadelphia. He’s undefeated and has a big fan following. It would have given him a foothold in the Prudential Center and established him as a future opponent for Andre Berto. But Golden Boy had the date; so instead, we’re stuck with two Mexican-Americans from California fighting in New Jersey in the first TV fight of the night. They’ll sell no tickets and the crowd won’t care.”
Although this is obviously an excerpt from a certain article, it's still the best post of the thread. Props to you dude! :fing02:
Everybody was busy taking shots at Berto that nobody seems to noticed that Greenburg is still in bed with Oscar. HBO better watch out for a Bob Arum looking like a woman scorned, because he will definitely bring his business elsewhere if it was just for the same coin, and HBO Sports will be reduced to showing Canelo fighting palookas reruns every other month until his next fight versus a patsy...
He is cleaning out a stacked division, that would be what 10 defenses of the WBC strap if he did that?
only 8. still 13 more to catch his idol sven ottke.
