Arum touched on this matter when someone asked about Pacquiao-Paul Williams, if Williams beats Sergio Martinez on Nov. 20. He assessed a matchup pitting the 5-6 1/2 Pacquiao against the 6-1 Williams as "ludicrous" because of the height disparity, but said that a Pacquiao-Williams clash would be a "consideration."
But, the promoter said, "I can't envisage the two fighters, one is eight inches taller. He'd have to get a step ladder. Let's see how he handles Margarito. Manny has never fought a guy this big."

Arum also said Antonio Margarito was too big, too strong for Pacquiao and that matchup wouldn't happen just 2 years ago despite Pacquiao calling for a fight with Tony right after the DLH fight. This time around he seems more open to the idea of Pacquiao-Williams, even though he wants to wait to see how Manny does against the other guy Bob thought was too big for Manny.
So, let's hear all the reasons why this fight will never happen. Why the Punisher would destroy Pacquiao. Then I can bump this thread a few months from now when Pacquiao-Williams is official and point and laugh at the funny posts. It was great seeing all the 'Pacquiao-Margarito will never happen' and 'Margarito would destroy Manny' threads/posts.
GO :fest30:
So if Pac beats Williams he is put higher P4P?
Cuz Paul Williams is the next Sugar Ray?
because Manny had no business fighting PWill and he doesnt belong in 154 lbs. if Manny beat PWill he is definitely a top 15 ATG. and number one P4P All time.
I know its a lie and that arum would never put pacquiao in the ring with williams, but if he did it would be the one of the greatest things hes done for boxing(he hasnt done many)
A fight like this is likely to happen. You know why? Paul Williams can't box for ****, that's why. Williams does nothing but come forward and throw punches. Tell Team Pacquiao and Arum to find a solid boxer who is a top 5 P4P. Oh yeah... wont happen.
The fight is just a hypothetical at this point and ALREADY you clowns are making excuses :lol1:
Read the article in the OP, Arum said Mayweather is still the #1 priority for May but like Oscar said it's all on Floyd whether the fight happens or not, and his legal situation now. So there's your top 5 P4P solid boxer... but he's on an indefinite vacation/retirement so what can you do?
Who would you suggest for Manny's next fight?

If pacquao fights Williams he gets knocked out. On the other hand, if he wins you have to put him in the top 15 ATG
That's why it's a win-win, no-lose situation for Pac. He'll make bank again and have even more money for a Senate run, public projects, retirement, etc. He'd be expected to lose, a 6'2" middleweight with a reach bigger than the HW champions vs a 5'6" career featherweight. It'd be a Duran-Hearns type deal where the loss does nothing to hurt his legacy but if he wins (which I think he would) then it adds another level to his already unprecedented legendary career.
You can disgree if you want.
And, I want. Because is just a no. He would have to do way more than just beat the Punisher to be considered top 15 all time.
I dont see the Williams fight happening and the Sergio won't happen because Manny is returning to 147. I see Cotto 2 as a possibility but even though Manny said hes going back to 147 i think the only way it sells more is if it were at 154 so they could con the fans and make them think its not going to be another demolition because its at 154.
of course not Sergio.
LOL they were only trying to make a fight with the slickest boxer of our generation but they would avoid Sergio because hes a slick boxer. Masterful logic! Do you also think 2+2=13?
I have a funny feeling it'll be at a catchweight again.
147.
And :lol1: at the people who think Williams losing somehow changes the fact that he has 8-9" height and 15" reach advantage over Manny. Williams-Martinez I was as close of a fight as you'll see, Paul got the decision but I'd say Sergio has had the better career since that point. Few people outside of the hardcore base knew who he was before that but he raised his profile by leaps and bounds and went on to win the lineal middleweight championship (against an Arum fighter, but probably only because that close loss made him damaged goods :lol1:). If it's another closely contested bout and neither guy is destroyed or KO'd, it helps both guys. But of course if Paul loses a close SD like Martinez and Clottey did, he'll automatically be a bum, past his prime, a slow plodder, weight drained, etc only when he signs on to fight Manny.
The only reason Williams wanted a CW for the Nov. fight was so he can make 147 easier for next Spring. He was at 162 with 30 days left before fight night and I'm thinking he's planning on weighing-in at 155ish, but wanted the 158 CW to make sure Sergio didn't outweigh him too significantly.
And I love how the Mayweather parrots are getting on Manny's/Arum's case for considering fighting Paul when their hero would retire again just at the thought. Roger already dismissed both Williams and Martinez because of lack of drawing power. Floyd and Paul are both Haymon fighters so that fight would be easy to put together, there would be no issues with negotiations because it would be an in-house fight more or less. But Floyd only fights undefeated fighters who are big draws and are in their prime, so Paul and Sergio don't fit the bill.
Although Williams on the outside has a clear advantage, Pacquiao on the inside could light Williams up in a terrible way. Williams is thin and isn't even a huge puncher at WW, more so a volume puncher. Williams isn't the quickest either.
I have a lot of confidence in Manny beating Williams at 147. At 154 I think Martinez beat Manny by atleast 2-3 rounds. I wish Martinez was smaller because there is no way Manny can compete at 154......dude is just too small for that weight class.
Indeed.
