Wow, just finished watching Floyd's greatest hits and I have to say, how can anyone call themselves a boxing fan and hate on Money Mayweather..
What a career this man has had...
2x Castillo
Corralles
Hernandez
Dela Hoya
Hatton
Judah
Chavez
Baldomir
Mosley
10 time World Champion
Top 10 P4pounder 12 out of 14 years
Barely lost rounds.
Undefeated.
2 time Lineal WW Champ in his 4th weight class.
Greatest 130 Pounder of all time.
Love him or hate him, this man has had an incredible career.. Yep.
Great fighter but add 2 vacations to his resume, 1st one at WW when cotto, williams, cheato and mosley were all looking to fight him in 2007 and now this even more mysterious one when it looks like pac has agreed to most/all of his demands and hes off again!!
Good post.
But look at it like this.
Floyd HAS to do that. It keeps his name buzzing. It made him a star.
Me and you are black. So lets start here name the last Black crossover boxing star.
I'll say it was Tyson. Who was worse than Floyd.
Then before that it was Leonard. Who was all smiles and kissing babies at his peak.
So basically the last popular black athlete that didnt have to act like an ass was SRL.
Look at guys like Winky, Roy, Shane Mosley, Hopkins, Holyfield, etc.
Those guys all had their time in the sun BUT they never became a BIGT crossover star like Floyd has.
Floyds star power is up there with Ali, Tyson and Oscar. If he was the choir boy type hed be Shane Mosley. Its just an act with Floyd. A lot of people dont realize that. He even said it himself.
Sekondsout made a good post, and you added more fine points as well.
Many people don't realize that a huge amount of income is based on the people that pay to watch and see if he'll lose. Every time he fights, it's not a fight, it's an event no matter who it is. People need to see that the more he trashtalks, the more people talk about him.
I guarantee you that if the press would stop calling him "ducker" or "chicken" and stopped writing about him altogether...he'd have next to no press, because all people ever talk about when it comes to Floyd is him and Pacquiao (at this point).
If the media keeps its eyes on Floyd, Floyd will put on a show, plain and simple.
Floyd's persona as a villain is not people hate, it's what people love to hate.
If Floyd's lashed out at the public, it's because the disrespect involved in it. Ever since he left Arum, it's been one mess after another. Here's what the public said in a nutshell about each of his last 5 fights:
Baldomir= no KO power, one dimensional.
Oscar= money fight, it was boring.
Hatton= too small, no skills.
Márquez= got skills, but size discrepancy too wide.
Mosley= shot, over the hill.
Out of the past four fights, the ones in which I can agree 100% on with the public is the Márquez fight. Yes, he was a top 3 pound for pound at the time. Yes, he was coming off two TKO wins against highly regarded lightweights, but as Larry Merchant said, "The fight was over from the day Márquez signed the contract."
I've said it numerous times before (honestly) and I'll say it again: Floyd will always have critics no matter what he does. He never gets full credit for anything he does. Why would he want to appease the media (who disrespects him) by fighting Pacquiao, a legitimate threat who, by fight night, people will ready their excuses as to why Pacquiao lost after the fight (should he lose). It's a lose-lose situation.
After the Margarito fight, people were savoring the thought of Mosley fighting Mayweather. The contracts were signed, and the salivating began. When the fight was a month away, suddenly Mosley was old, shot, and one dimensional. Floyd had suddenly cherry-picked, "as he always does."
Gimme a break.
minus the racist part....I agree with this completely!!....Floyd's ring skills are second to none but he lacks outside the ring skills....thats the turn off for me when it comes to Floyd.....he represents something more than just himself at this level of stardom....I just wish he would stop bullsh!ttin'.....dude has a LARGE number of fans and MOST are young teens or really young adults.....he has a influence on these dudes and has a chance to give back(like he always says)....not feeding the homeless or abused women....thats all good....but he can give back in a way where it wouldn't cost him a dime.....all he has to do is be honest with these young dudes and stop tellin' them that Money is EVERYTHING....the size of man's bank account, chain, or the diamonds don't validate sh!t....but if you let Floyd tell it....he'll tell them young dudes the exact opposite.
I'll continue to pray for the day he wakes up and realize that these babies admire him enough to immulate the actions and character he's saling them.....he is the MOST important boxer in the inner cities across the US....not B.Hop, Roy, P-Dub or anybody else...its Floyd!!....dude gotta use his popularity the right way and not the wrong way....he need to stop playing gangster rapper and misleading the youth who admire and adore him enough to dedicate their Saturday nights to him WHENEVER he fights....when Floyd fight, the hood is shut down.....Manny stops crime in his country....well Floyd does the same in the hood.....trust me!!....I go hard on dude because I know what affect he has on lil dudes like my nephew and even my 5 yr old lil man....any dude with a lil bit of wisdom about the urban inner city way of life know I'm right.....Bless!!
Good post.

Damn, that's two alts. I'm approaching 2Pac status.
IAMBIAZED
lololol
You must admit though that name is funny even though the alt is not funny at all.
NoCeilings, you have totally missed the point. People don't hate Floyd for his abilities, as his skills are PHENOMENAL. People don't hate him cause he beat their favourite fighter. People, myself included, hate him because a man with his skills should be an AMBASSADOR for the sport. Floyd comes off as a hoodlum, buffoon, racist criminal.

There's no denying Floyd's skill. The thing is God gave him such remarkable talent, but he doesnt use it for the fans. Hes quick enough to hit and not get hit, but he hardly throws combos and his punches are few and far between. Bottom line - its just boring to watch him.
Then you get people like Meldric Taylor and Pacquiao who are blessed with talent AND they fight for the fans. Imagine if Floyd fought with passion like they did, hed be knocking out all his opponents including Mosley and Marquez, but he chooses a safety first approach instead.
If Floyd fought with intensity Id be a fan of his, i wouldnt even care about the stupid things he says, but time after time his fights are just lackluster and lull me to sleep. I cant wait for Floyd and Pacquiao to fight because i believe the pacman will bring out the true greatness that floyd really has.
i doubt it.

With all due respect Burner, it becomes increasingly difficult to LIKE Mayweather given the fact that he's pissed away his career with inactivity and now legal problems.
I think inside the ring he's a man to be respected. He honestly has all the skills to be the GOAT. But he does not have the desire to prove that to fans. He's satisfied with thinking he's the GOAT, without caring what anyone else thinks. On one hand that's respectable. Ali said he was the greatest early in his career and eventually he earned it. Floyd hasn't earned it yet.
So in response to your question, I'll ask another. How can anyone NOT hate on Mayweather?? As a person who liked it when Tiger Woods was dominating, I enjoy watching greatness before my eyes. Watching Floyd was like watching greatness, and it still is. But how can any fan of boxing look at Floyd's career and say "he did everything he could to be called "The Greatest"". That in itself is a dissappointment.
Think about it. Imagine if after becoming the best fighter in the world, Sugar Ray Robinson packed it in and became a part time fighter? Would we say he is the greatest? Would we praise him like we do today? No way. Boxing fans more than anything appreciate heart and will. Watching Arturo Gatti cringe after breaking his hand and then continuing on to fight and throw punches was incredible. Not because of the fight or the people or the titles involved, but because it was a display of heart and will and a desire to be great.
Floyd has always come up short of expectations. And to be clear, it's not because of his performances in the ring. Looking at his resume, there are not too many who can say they were better. It is all about expectations though. I see Floyd as someone who could've legitimately taken the throne as the GOAT. He never seemed to seriously pursue that once he reached the pinnacle of the sport.
And that is why he is hated and is seen as a dissappointment to many.:thanks:

thats a great post
flomos like to ignore the intelligent posts, focus on the retards(i guess because they can relate) and then they call us pactards.
Oh well. Stupidity has been around for thousands of years, the only thing you can do is eliminate it in yourself, you can't do it for anybody else.
its so hilarious that you can see all the wrong from a floyd fan but cant look in the mirror and see your own faults/ pactardism
its amazing

how can you not?....he talks tough but puss!es out...he brags and exaggerates his talents and accomplishments....he's boring...a jealous, no class, no principle having son ofa b1tch..i mean, there's less to like about this dude!
No, bud. I don't have that kind of time like you have here.
Even if I did, I wouldn't do it. I've seen enough. I've seen some
of your threads. They're the same one-sided repetitious rants that
only girls usually do. Sometimes reason and logic don't always go
together.
Fans wanted Floyd, not Margarito, and you know this. Yet you act
as if fans are responsible for shoving Margs into the scene and give
Manny a walk in the park title.
You've probably seen one of my posts. Boxing as it is now sucks. I
don't mean the sport. Fans don't get to see what they want to see
in the ring. I don't even want to blame anybody because the problem
is deep-rooted.
Even then, can't imagine myself going online and start repetitious rants
over something fans don't have any control of. The majority of boxing
fans want to see actual live boxing events. Seeing Manny fight in the
ring will always give your money's worth.
Amen. Some people spend too much time here as if their opinions matter.
Go read all the treads I've created, then tell me what u think!!It's better U research before U talk, that way u'll really know what's up,it was a serious offer,I'm not an undercover Floyd fan,he's gotten it hard from me,but now Manny's getting it just the same.
