Victor Ortiz is the most over-rated and over-hyped American involved in the sport of boxing, If he was from any other country than the US no-one would have heard of him. I sometimes think Oscar De La Hoya takes pity on Ortiz and Ortiz's plight as a child, Ortiz having arguments with his dad, Ortiz having to raise his kid brother, Ortiz crying about it on HBO and basically going around saying "Im young, Hispanic, uneducated, So give me a handout!"
Goldenboy propaganda factories continuously spew forth messages like, "The Next Oscar De La Hoya" , That assertion is not only untrue but a conscious lie —and we all know it.
What Has Victor Ortiz done to get the hype he gets?
1) He lost via Disqualification to a journeymen
2) He Quit like a school girl against Maidana in a fight he could have won
3) He lost to Khan in the Amatauers
4) He acted like a goofy kid laughing and joking about his no-mas
5) He beat a 39 year old shot to bits Nate Campbell
6) He beat a shot to bits Vivian Harris
7) He has no belts
8) He has no olympic medals
9) He tries to imimate DLHs charachter thats makes everyone cringe
10) He calls himself "vicous" but he smiles and plays the good guy
11) He is intellectually challenged
12) He is the part of the problem with boxing, Not part of the solution
Ortiz shouldnt worry, Goldenboy will make sure Ortiz gets all of Khans 'hand me down' vacated belts If Khan unifies all the titles at 140lbs and move up 147lbs. Because everyone knows Ortiz can never win those belts against any of the champions who currently hold them, So basically Ortiz will become a paper champion who will get all of Khans hand me down vacated belts and fighting on Khans undercards. Infact Oritiz I feel shouldnt even be on HBO, He should be on ESPN.
So is Victor Ortiz overhyped? Lets vote on it.
Thats why hes had the hardest time in the division even getting a shot? Remember the Maidana fight was for the Interem belt not the full title, hes never even had a shot. Hes gone on after Maidana to take out 4 fighters, fighting on a regular basis..not taking 6 month breaks like some of these other belt holders. Everyone has there reasons for fighting mind you, but Ortiz is chasing a title and it shows...he will more than likely be fighting in Dec again, thats 5 fights in a years span. The kids putting in work, and hopefully he gets a shot after this fight...because he has put in the work and hasnt been given any hand outs.
good post. ortiz is staying busy and unlike many young fighters is showing improvement fight after fight.
he's learning new techniques, applying them in the ring and becoming a better fighter.
sparring is sparring, but there's no better experience than getting "live action" with no head gear.
whenever he gets his shot, he'll be more than ready while other fighters are stagnating fighting once or twice a yr.
he knows that hes still far from a complete fighter, but he's working towards becoming one.
Im not going to hide the fact that when Ortiz does that DLH imitation smile I wish Maidana had knocked all of his teeth out, I do hate him with a passion because to me he is the personification of everything thats wrong with boxing.
Ortiz basically wants a world championship handout without having to fight for it and put in the blood, sweat and tears, Because he "doesnt deserve to get beat up like this". He should go find another sport and stop crying on HBO like a *****

Well he's trying to make up for that idiotic post fight interview so I'm forgiving him for that. If he acts like that again I'll gladly join you in a toast of haterade.
He wants to fight the top fighters and even wants to avenge that embarrassing loss to Maidana so how is he part of the problem? He willing to give what fans want to see. Sounds like you have a problem with the kid's personality more than anything.

His Mental? Come on people you need to stop repeating everything you hear...Ortiz has gone on to win 4 fights, in convincing fashion. He is avoided by the 140 lbs for good reason he is a very high risk/low reward type fighter at the moment. All 4 opponents have mentioned this lack of his mentality you all speak of but have all lost....when will this talk end?
i strongly disagree, victor is a very very skilled fighter, most you fagz overlook that cuz he have up on maidana but keep in mind ortiz was raping him until he decided to slug with maidana.
if ortiz and maidana rematch, i take ortiz.
I agree with this. Also I would have my money on Ortiz if he ever fought Khan. Of all the top 140 Pounders Ortiz has the most topside value as he is percieved as a quitter but when it comes to crunch I think he may surprise a lot of people.
ortiz is the most avoided fighter at 140 imo, he has the style, speed and power to upset anyone, i personaly think he should have moved to 147 awhile ago, as its hard for him to get a title shot when everyone is talking about khan, maidnana, bradley and devon
I agree with the bold, but i don't know wether mentally he can handle adversity.
As for the TS topic, No i don't think he's overrated cause as much as HBO tries to hype him(which i think they've moved on a bit to Khan) the general opinion is he has a lot to prove.
Hes good but does he have that heart to be a champion or a p4p guy? We dont know because of the Maidana fight. If you look at all the top p4p fighters they all been in that situation and kept fighting and most won. But the time is now for him he needs to fight a Khan, Alexander, or Bradley one of kings of the junior welters now its time. Same with Chavez jr when are they going fight somebody. I see Delahoya was trying to steal him from Top Rank but can you get him a real fight. These guys have shown they got the skill set but now its time for them to fight some of the big names. Im suprise hbo is not saying anything.
How is he overrated when everybody hates on him and says he's a fighter with no heart? Sure, he's gotten some more respect recently after a few wins but nobody is hyping up Victor to be some unstoppable force, you're a moron plain and simple!
This kid posting this **** i's stupid... Victor had great skills and i's a great boxer he has better skills than maidana Alexander he or beat by maidana but it was a stupid fight on his be half but he i's learning from that
This guy i's obviously hating on Ortiz or some next he i's gonna say Brandon rios i's gonna kill Ortiz.....
And FYI he's called viscous victor Ortiz because of when he's in the ring not when he's outside
Well first of Marcos Maidana is a much better fighter than Breidis Precott. He did last much longer against Maidana than Khan did against Prescott.
Don't worry about his amateur career. When boxer becomes a professional, it is only what the boxer accomplishes as a professional that matters.
However, to answer your question, yes. Victor Ortiz is overrated and over-hyped just like Amir Khan.
Now please stop calling Amir Khan the new Diego Corrales. That is an insult to Diego Corrales. Diego Corrales never cherry-picked his opponents.
i really dont think khan and ortiz are hype jobs. both of them have proven their worth after coming out from though fights. i agree about the chico comment dont compare khan with chico.
