Canelo destroys Cotto in a year..

not in a yr. maybe in 2. cotto has better boxing skills, a more active jab, better footwork and laps saul in the experience dep't. cotto's got a much tighter style with less holes defensively. as great of a puncher saul is, he still unleashes hooks from too far and can be countered in b/t shots. one thing that he DOES have over cotto though is his two fisted power. maybe steward will finally help cotto develop that right hand, but i think its too late for that.

If he can crack Baldomir's sturdy chin with one shot he can stop Cotto. How he would handle Cotto's boxing skills is the question. He hasn't fought an elite boxer-puncher yet so it's premature to say he would beat Cotto hands down. If he can beat an A level guy with a good jab and footwork then Cotto is in trouble. Really did people already forgot that Canelo couldn't even handle Cotto's little brother power. Jose cotto jumped 2 weight classes to fight Canelo. What make you think he has a remote chance against Cotto. Jose is actually the big brother and he has a better chin than his little brother.

LOL let this kid mature 1st before mentioning him and Cotto fighting. He looks good, but keep in mind, the kid still hasn't fought a live dog yet. He fought a 40 yr old Carlos Baldomir who hasn't been relevant in years. It's as good of competition as Ortiz had against Harris (maybe not as BAD, but you get the point). Something tells me though that they're gonna throw this kid in with the wolves sooner than expected and he's gonna get hurt. Cotto right now or even a year from now IMO has too much experience and skills that Alvarez may fold. In a few years, that definitely could change if he's brought up properly (which GBP has been so-so at doing with their stock of guys).

he beat clottey championship rounds count....cotto was the only one throwing punches !!!! ask you a few ? would the clottey been different if they didnt clash heads? how many fighters continue fighting with a cut the bad and so early in the fight? I did not see Cotto win that fight. Period. You ask about the clash of heads, then I ask you about the body slam Cotto gave Clottey affecting his overall performance from then on. Many fighters keep on boxing with bad cuts on their eyes. I can only remember one with a cut on the FOREHEAD that didn't continue.

Alvarez already beat the only Cotto he'll ever beat and that's Jose....Cotto will retire anyways by the time Alvarez will be ready to step up

Alvarez beats Cotto, and thats a likely fight in the near future. In a year and a half to two years...Alvarez knocks Cotto out, Cotto started his career at 140, Alvarez is what 20 and hes weighing in at 150. Too big, too strong...Cotto is a great fighter, but the young fighters are coming up.

I saw canelo make some mistakes on his defense that he has to fix in order to face the elite. Jose Cotto rocked him but he recovered fast and went on to beat the sh*it out him. I don't think he can destroy cotto like people are saying but I'm not saying he can't win in a year. You guys make Cotto out to be greater than what he is. You cannot honestly say that he beat Clottey. i dont buy that. Cotto would probably destroy Baldomir in less than 5 rounds. Alvarez is not ready for Cotto. it would be a big mistake to match him against Cotto because he would get exposed. need more fight in a higher level to compete with Cotto.

This thread is a joke, a new up and coming kid like Canelo is good but it is ridivulous to say eh will beat Cotto in a year, you guys will be sad the day he loses if this fight does happen. Chavez Jr. first, Marg rematch, then scratch that Canelo kid off - Cotto beats them all.

Canelo looked great against a shot fighter.. less not get carried away here. The skill level and experiece of Cotto would be too much for the up coming kid. By the time HE peaks, Cotto would be retire. Next.

Canelo has good basic skills and is heavy handed. But I don't see speed and he got staggered against the smaller Cotto. It is still too early to tell

Fernando vargas............................ Agree. The hate for Miguel Cotto is immense. Not a likeable guy, but come on, he takes on all challenges, and his two losses come one from a guy that was caught with plaster in his gloves, and the other one which is accused of using PEDs.

I do like Canelos style, Ive been watching him & think he can become a big star in boxing, would like him to beat chavez jr. a known tomato can fighter, 40 wins against bums. Don't know if JCC Jr is a tomato can. I saw his last fight against Duddy and and he showed improvement. Granted Duddy is a punching bag but JCC Jr was struggling against lesser fighters like Matt Vanda 2 years ago. I think he will improve with Roach and if he spars with Pac then that is good experience for him. And, he still young. Yes he has 40 fights but he is only 24 and with Roach he has time for improvement. I would like to see that Alvarez-JCC Jr fight. I actually think it would be a step up for both fighters. I don't think neither fighter has fought anybody as good as the other. And, I think it would a be huge fight if promoted properly for May or September of 2011 in Estadio Azteca it could get 100,000 people in attendance. But, with what seems as new cold war beginning between GBP and Top Rank. Who knows if that fight can come off.

True it is very premature to assume. But, on the other hand even though I don't think Cotto is shot, or washed up, or damage goods I also don't think he is the same pre-Margarito.
