Did i miss this or something because ive seen nothing about it before this.
MANILA, Philippines — The past couple of weeks, Antonio Margarito has been giving his trainer Robert Garcia a wide grin.
“His weight and his conditioning is remarkable,” Garcia told the Bulletin from Los Angeles on Saturday where they have been holed up at the South El Monte Boxing Gym.
Garcia is helping Margarito rev up for a Nov. 13 showdown with Manny Pacquiao and he is more than optimistic of pulling off a surprise come fight night at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.
Margarito starts the day jogging in the mountains and by next week, he will also do roadwork at the beach as the training camp shifts to high gear in Oxnard, which is about 40 miles north of Los Angeles.
Even the choices for sparring partners have been finalized and one of them would be Sergio Martinez, the Argentine world champion, said Garcia.
Pacquiao, whose last fight was a lopsided win over Joshua Clottey of Ghana last March, is a huge favorite going into the scheduled 12-round bout for the vacant World Boxing Council super-welterweight crown.
Meanwhile, Freddie Roach is arriving this morning from Los Angeles in preparation for training camp in wwBaguio City sometime in this coming week.
Roach will have two sparring partners with him.
Pacquiao’s adviser Mike Koncz said Pacquiao, who is in General Santos City and should be back in Manila on Monday, plans to travel to the City of Pines either Wednesday or Thursday.
that's nice and all but sparring against Sergio's style is not really gonna get you ready against PAC's style
Outside of getting Pac himself, this is the best option. Quit your crusade of hate.
you really need to let this vendetta against Jro go dude...seriously...
Jro's a closet Flomo. Cung is just owning up on him for it.
I see some of what you are saying but his defensive movements are not the same as Pac's: Pac has both hands up on either side of his face and bobs from side to side, Martinez usually has his latent hand (the hand he is not actively throwing with) on that respective side of his face and either pulls back or leans to that side.
Martinez is a "slick counterpuncher" if you will for 90% of his fights and only resembles Pac offensively when he "turns it on" at various times in the fight...he is not the volume puncher that Pac is.
I realize it is hard to find some one who fights exactly like Pac does but imagine him getting adjusted to the way Martinez fights from a distance and jumps in with a quick 1-2 or just a single counter, and then facing Pac who will be fighting from a closer distance due to his height and reach limitations and 6 and 7 punches coming at him from all angles in a single combination movement. I see some slight similarities, they do both move a lot but Pac is a side to side head moving guy while Martinez uses his reflexes to pull back out of harm's way while his hands are down predominately. Getting used to head hunting a guy who has his hands down versus a guy with his hands up and a different defensive look might take a few precious rds away from Margs when he has to adjust to the difference.
I understand that they could have Martinez emulate Pac's movements and such and maybe he is as close to Pac as anyone can find but I think even so, Margs will have trouble in there against the Pacster.
I see what you're saying but outside of cloning the Hero of Asia this is about as good as it gets for a sparring partner.
Is that why Martinez asked for a rematch this year and Margarito said thanks, but no thanks?
To be fair Margs had already been told a fight with Pac was in the making so you cant blame him for waiting to see if that would come to pass.
OK? that would make for good sparring but that is a POOR CHOICE to try and prepare for Manny, he need to find smaller guys with SPEED, maybe one of the 140 lbs guys
He's a southpaw. Check.
Moves side to side and uses awkward angles. Check.
He's darts in and out. Check.
He's got speed. Check.
He punches in combo's. Check.
Outside of the superficial differences you mentioned, it don't get much better than Sexy imo.
If anything its even better cuz' he'll be used to a bigger guy with a bigger punch so Pac will seem diminutive by comparison.

I did and then he backstabed me again, and again.
I am just sayin there is no way in hell that Margarito ducked Martinez.
LOL thats funny ..............

Keep making stories,story teller.
Margarito would never duck someone like Zoolander Martinez.
He destroyed him brutally and almost dropped him out of the ring in round 1.
I mean common Evelyn Salt you cant say that Margarito ducks Martinez when he said that he wants Mosley after Pacquiao fight.
Margarito never ducked top fighters and never will, specially in position in what he is,he will agree on anything.
Boxing Zoolander Sergio Martinez will never again step in ring against TIJUANA TORNADO.
No way, first fight was such a woopin that Zoolander needed 10 years to recover.

a 5-11, 160 Pound Martinez?
Umm okay. I guess Martinez wants an excuse when he loses to Paul again.
Really how so?
And, lets keep it real. As cool as a guy P-Will seems. The only making excuses after the first fight was P-Will. Not Martinez.
Honestly even when he has gotten robbed. When has he ever made an excuse? He just took it and smiled.
Martinez has said in multiple interviews that he would definitely fight Margs as he feels Margs was the only person to actually beat him.
Now, Especially if they're sparring, Margs/Martinez 2011 has to happen.

It's great that he is sparring with Martinez and all but really.........Martinez is far taller, has a longer reach, and fights completely different than Pac does. How is this supposed to help him fight Pac again? I realize the southpaw aspect but other than that, I fail to realize the advantage.

The thing is.....who does fight like Manny? I think Sergio is as close as it's gonna get. At least he's an elite fighter who's a southpaw, with a good bit of movement.
That's really stupid and I don't like it. My opinion on Margarito aside, Martinez/Margarito II would be an amazing fight!
If Martinez spanks Margarito (or the other way around) chances of a fight between them plummet.
I realize great southpaw sparring partners are hard to find, but isnt Martinez and bit tall and defense-y to be effective?
