If anyone watched the ESPN doc on Tyson and Tupac last night I thought this was hilarious. They tried to make Tyson out to be MLK, kept referring to his hands as slave hands and with the power of 400 years of captivity and chains etc...they even went so far as to attack the woman who he raped...was found guilty of raping and imply that she was a gold digger. They never mentioned the fact that he beat women. They then tried to say Tupac was some leader of the womens rights movement even though he was convicted of sexual assault for sodomizing a girl against her will. I mean if anyone watched this, it was hilarious, especially Tyson. They tried to make him like some black freedom fighter. I also found it hilarious how the non-boxing fans who talked about him talked about how he was like Foreman, Ali, Johnson and Louis, but the guy I hear Tyson talk about most is Dempsey...It was such a race baiting piece. Terrible documentary. Tyson didnt fight for anything other than himself, his wallet, and to hurt people. Thats about it. For black people? Heck the black people in his life were the ones who took advantage of him and robbed him blind. Tyson even saw that.
No mention of Cus, no mention of the trainers or management, but they managed to make Sug Night out to be a good guy...worst thing I ever watched.
Its what generally happens with a lot of famous people, but I would have to disagree with you on that they were ONLY violent thugs
Well everyones more than just a label, but deep down I truly think Tyson and Tupac at their heart were just violent thugs.
oh and the funniest thing was when they wheeled Maya Angelou in and she was trying to act like Tyson asked some brilliant question since he asked, "explain the aforcentricity in Richard Wrights native son vs the Eurocentricity of Tolstoy." If someone would have asked a question like that in one of my classes I would have thrown something at them. Its a retarded question. Its like saying "excplain the role of thinking in Catcher in the Rye." Its stupid its a question some tard asks to try to look smart. Theres no real answer, the question itself doesnt even really make sense.
They tried to make Tupac and Tyson out to be these heroic guys when in reality they were just violent thugs.

The documentary never made out Des'reee was a golddigger at all.
It interviewed a black journalist who got told she was taking part in a lynching cos she criticised him.
She said some of his fans saw her as a gold digger, that was it!
Let me ask you this, did they ever fault Tyson for anything. Hell they skimmed over every mistake and tried to justify it by saying "oh tupac was angry hahahah" or "some say it was a set up..." Did they ever mention the fact that he beat his wife?

you clearly dont know the history of tyson and tupac's case history..guess you beleive anything a court of law says..
You clearly dont know the history of the fact they were both found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by juries comprised of mostly black people. Guess you believe anything high times and the intrawebs says...

Actually she said "most women supported Tyson" and "most men, especially black men supported Tyson." Also, I have seen the cases and both Tyson and Tupac were guilty, simple as that.
They brought in Maya Angelou for christ sakes to talk about Tyson and Tupac. It was absurd. There were some rappers talking abotu slave ships and Maya angelou was talking about how she was a slave so that Tupac didnt have to be a slave. It seriously was insane. Young Tyson didnt talk like that or think like that, Kid Dynamite wasnt concerned with race.
They literally had a 5 minute long rap/poem about Tyson and how he was freeing black people from slavery. I didnt knkow whether to laugh or cry it was that horrible. They realy stretched to make the connection to Tupac. Like they knew eachother somewhat and Tupac died leaving a Tyson fight, but I mean there connection was fairly weak. It wasnt like Tyson saved pac's life once or that they spend months on vacations together or Pac visited him every day in jail or vice versa.
This will explain how close they werent. Tyson was worth millions. Pac needed 1.4 mil to get out of jail. Tyson didnt do a single thing to help tupac raise the money or donate money. It took Shug Night offering Tupac a "slave contract" to get him out of jail.
This whole thing was a joke. I just found it especially funny how they made young Tyson out to be even somewhat aware of black struggle.
Funniest thing was at one point some black dude was listing off hw champs and accidently said Marciano to which he followed up with, well Tyson was different than Marciano and more liek Ali in that he was a black kid from the streets. It was awful.
Tyson was a man who's life was saved by Cus, given a family who cared for him and raised him as there own and molded him into one of the great heavyweight champions. His greatest boxing inspiration was Dempsey (as has been stated), early in his career he cut his hair, wore trunks and shoes that resembled Dempsey, he even fought Dempsey full crouch, weaving style.
After Cus death, between the influence of King and his prison stay, he turned Muslim and developed a hatred for white society. In the years following his career and as can be seen in the docu-movie 'Tyson', he laments the path his career took, the leaches he allowed to manipulate and suck him dry, and he cries over how much he still misses Cus to this very day.

wow, who ever did that doc didn't know **** about tyson
They made tyson look bad. He was never some militant black power guy. His idols were cus, jack dempsey and rocky marciano. All white. To be honest if you look at most of tysons career he never really talked about slavery or black people. He just said people treated him like a scumbag street thug. Most of tysons rage was focused on other black people that did him wrong.
It sounds like over the top myth making.
You are correct that Tyson never spoke about feeling that racism held him back, until he meet Mr Don King. Who filled his head with all kinds of stuff, so he could get Tyson to leave Jacobs and sign with him
Muhammad Ali on the other hand...........
Ali was never the hero that people like to make him out to be
I was hoping that wasnt what they would make it into. Sounds awful.
Tyson beat people up because no one loved him and some punks killed his pigeons. Simple as that.
I hope it doesnt come on again.
