Why is Jones more popular than Floyd?
I mean, Roy was a defensive fighter, he was hardly shy and retiring when speaking about how great his talent was, he has been accused of not facing the best fighters he could of at certain points in his career, so i ask you, why does he have more fans, why is Roy more universally liked in Boxing circles?
I mean, even with those criticisms being leveled at him about not always facing the guys he should of in certain parts of his career, he is still more universally liked than Floyd Mayweather.
So why has he left a 50mil dollar fight hanging in the air? i mean its not like there is not a possibility that his opponent wont wash his hands of it, yet mr " i dont fight for legacy, only for money" still aint made the fight, and its not like Pac aint agreed to do tests, he has, its also not like there is a shred of evidence to be asking for the test, yet he is still ready to do commision test and OST to a certain degree, hell id fight Pac for that and let him take what ever he wants.
Floyd is leaving a 50 million payday hanging because that's too much money for him to handle, he knows there is no possible way for him to blow 50 mill that quick, and we all know how Floyd loves going broke at least once a year then come back and blab about being the best and still don't face the best out there.
Roy entertained in the ring....he did things that ppl never seen before...dude was REALLY a SUPERMAN SUPER HERO type....his style may have been defensive but his offense was WICKED....he threw flasy combinations and made things look so dam easy....but I think the way he came back after being DQ'd against Montell Griffin made him more of a icon IMO :boxing:
Another statement of ignorance. That seems to happen a lot around here. What tests has Pac agreed to? Provide a link also. If your link does not have a quote from Arum or Manny confirming they agreed to full random blood and urine testing up to the day of the fight, then don't bother.
Since you will not be finding that link, I will just correct your question for you. You know, to point you in the right direction. So you can start a thread and maybe seek some answers.
So why has Manny Pacquiao left a 50mil dollar fight hanging in the air? All he has to do is agree to full OST.
Your welcome, I am glad I could help.
WTF where have you been? Just comes out from a possy hole? Its in the front page of Boxingscene few days ago. Pac agreed to everything Floyds demands including blood testing up to the night. You did not wonder why Floyd suddenly went into vacation?

Cause Jones had style/creativity, he bled originality and personality.
Floyd doesn't have that kind of originality or style or personality. He's kind of a clone of a bad rapper. Fur and leather boxing trunks look ridiculous man, lol they aren't hot at all. Its those dudes from the south and east that know how to entertain crowds.
Dudes from the midwest wear awful colors and wear fur and leather boxing trunks lol. They aren't original and don't have good taste for some reason.

this is exactly what i was going to say. safety first perfectly summed up roy jones jr.'s style. it was clear he could have dominated just about everyone he stepped in the ring with but, there is a lot of risk involved when you're out there trying to destroy everything put in front of you.
often jones jr. would show that he could dominate his opponent whatever round he felt inspired and then he would relax for a couple of rounds and repeat the process. he would seem to almost carry opponents to lopsided decisions.
saying roy is a defensive fighter is like saying prince naseem is a defensive fighter. u guys dont know what ur talking about. ur boxing knowledge has bee exposed.
Roy was not more popular than Floyd, WTF are you smoking?
Roy was not a defensive or conventional fighter, WTF are you drinking?
Roy did not take a lot of risks until late in his career, WTF are you snorting?
Virgil Hill is a two weight champ....once the linear LHW champ....took Maske's undefeated record.
Griffin had just beaten Toney.....twice.....
and people try to **** at Roys resume, but a lot of guys he beat went on to become champs.....and Roy beat a lot of them way more easy than the other top contenders of the time.....i mean look at guys like Sosa, Wolfe, Gonzalez, Woods, Malinga.....Roy just made em look like nothing, but against other top SMW-LHW's, they gave em hell
once again all was GOOD Fighters...NOT GREAT!!! I remember how good Hill was but unfortunately fans today don't, so they look at Matches like Hill and Griffin and they act as if those fights was nothing, lets not act like people wasn't questioning Jones competition because they was questioning him just like they question Mayweather now AND he was accused of "DUCKING" fighters as well Gerald McClellan was one of them, Benn and Eubanks as well

WTH is "To a certain degree?" Doesnt ALL mean ALL...
Roy was more well liked because although his ego was every bit as big as Floyd's, he was a much more likeable person.
I do have to say however that I met Floyd once and he couldn't have been any nicer.
Roy is not as popular as Floyd. Roy is accepted more because no one really cares what Roy has to say anymore. If he was still a P4P champ, he would be hated. Maybe not like Floyd, but definitely hated.

I think Roy is more liked than Floyd because he is more humble at his core than Floyd in public opinion. Floyd openly says he is greater than Sugar Ray Robeson, Ali, and all the other All Time Greats. Roy in his prime was very brash but never to the point to make such comments. There are many people who hate Floyd for making such comments but I actually like that about him! Not that I believe him but it places so much pressure on him no matter who he fights! He better not ever lose especially to anyone we feel is a lesser fighter than he is!
You guy should log off, lie down, think about what you said.
Most of Roy's career he would refuse to take the lead in his fights, but wait for the opponent to lead so he could set up his offense, even when he did come foward he would try and draw leads to counter, Roy Jones was a defensive fighter, Jones was a safety first fighter.

He's made a lot less money though. Cash being a little more desirable and tangible than a few nice comments about you on internet message boards.
Plus IIRC he wasn't so loved when he was actually in his prime and unbeaten. By my observations the public have warmed to him more since he's lost a few fights and fallen out of the spotlight, and they've had to time to form a little perspective on his career.
Agreed!!!! The press and public disliked RJJ because of his cockiness. He was never a huge ppv draw and was reduced to doing theatrical gimmicks like playing in a semi pro basketball game the same day he had a boxing match or performing his own rap lyrics at the beginning of his fight.
RJJ was not a defensive fighter you moron
yea why do u say roy was defensive?
Roy was defensive? :ugh:
I dont beloeve Roy was a defensive fighter at all.
It wasnt his defence that got him atention, it was his amazing offence.
He was also a showman in the ring and not just a load mouth out of ythe ring.
Jones's popularity was based on his fighting style, Floyd is a genius in the ring, but not exciting. He needs to talk **** to sell his fights.

You mean more LIKED by the Media and Fans?
and as much as I had love for Roy, after beating Hopkins then James Toney, he had a long stretch in which he wasn't really fighting anybody:
Vinny Pazienza
Virgil Hill
Montell Griffin
^decent fighters but nothing special, people watched Roy simply because of his Skills and Amazing Speed and Athleticism which was Rare during that time
by the way RJJ wasn't "DEFENSIVE" he was "QUICKER" then everyone he fought and was able to get out of the way, but Roy never had great defense and didn't have much of a chin
