shaolin kung fu is one form of kung fu. there are many others.
most open hand techniques (korean, japanese, thai, maybe even filipino) came from shaolin kung fu. boxing is older than shaolin kung fu.
the only other martial arts before that time was fighting with weapons.

oh i gues boxing is the only combat sport/martial art that uses fists/punches.
nevermind the other martial arts that have been around way longer than boxing.
lols... both guys are brazilian jujitsu practioners, but for the majority of the fight they used boxing and it was a punch that ended the fight. things that make you go hmm.........
Yeah I did not know that lol I have heard a lot about Kung Fu but never really seen it is there punching in it?
bruce lee was a master at kung fu i believe. yeah palm strikes, elbows, fists, kicks etc.
all of the martial arts/fighting discplines are ancient techniques used by their respective culture/society. boxing, as we know it today, is relatively new. although historians have found evidence of "fighting competitions since 900 BC.
ok enough of the history lesson lol

Phillies didn't choke to the Yankees, they just had ****ty pitchers last year compared to the Yankees pitching. When you use the word choke that means you're saying the Phillies should have beaten the Yankees. Were the Phillies even favored to beat Yankees because I don't believe so.
Heres your boy Shane posing with the MMA elite at an UFC Event!

if you try to do everything, you won't be great at anything. theres nothing wrong with specialization and focus. Its the watering down of he disciplines and systems that is my biggest beef with MMA
i know what you mean. but the thing is, the superstars in MMA have been training in 1 discipline for a LONG time. Couture with wrestling. Machida with Karate. They were already masters of their craft (just like Toney was). But the difference with that is they had to expand their game to do well in MMA. Which is what Toney didn't do.
Also, wrestling and karate don't have big promotions for their competitions you know? none of the individual martial arts do. Unless you count Muay Thai/kickboxing. Which is why the whole MMA thing started i guess. To highlight other styles of fighting besides boxing
I thought he beat Shogun? Oh well I don't be keeping up with it like that. Was there a rematch?
My point is Lyoto is competitive with his style. Who cares if he wins all his matches or not. Has Shogun?
yeah there was a rematch and he got TKOed by shogun.
Lyoto lost his title and undefeated streak to Shogun, who's a BJJ black belt. yeah, you mad.

Most people fail to realize what MMA means.
it's taking different disciplines of fighting and putting them against another.
ex: boxing vs. karate vs. wrestling vs. kung fu etc.
in the old UFC days, that was true. but it's developed into something where you have to train your stiking, wrestling, and BJJ. you can't just be proficient in one and expect to win all the time. There are too many variables.
if a boxer gets bumrushed and slammed into the ground, what good is his boxing skills? now imagine is a BJJ expert can't use wrestling to take down his opponent? he'll be forced to stand and strike.

maybe. Know why? Toney doesn't exactly have 1 punch knockout power most the time, not even in his prime.
But why are you ignoring the Mercer Silva fight in lieu of this one? How blind of you
when a dedicated "striker" goes into an arena where the fighters are jack of all trade master of none types.. he can do damage. Wrestler vs Boxer is all about who can bring their strengths to bear first. But discounting boxing against wrestling is a very foolish assumption.
What I meant by Toney having no legs is exactly that. he was like a bowling ball on stilts in their, no balance... nothing. Lyoto Machida has legs and takedown defense, and he's not a traditional wrestler type. He Karate, actually. A striking art.
So hush. thanks
