A bit of a random comparison.
I'd say Cotto has better text book skill i.e. great jab and stance with a classic 'high' guard. However I'd say Calzaghe was the better overall skilled fighter - he was very unorthodox but had awesome hand speed and movement.
I think Cotto is a perfect fundamental fighter and really enjoyed watching him in his early career but has to say that Joe C is a bit of a Quandary. It almost seems that these no reason why he should be as good as he is.... But he is.
I just can't imagine why he's never been tagged with all that clowning around.
why isnt there an even vote?
joe ability to throw volumes of punching while not getting hit and keeping his fluid upper body and foot movement is amazing. most vulume punchers throw but take damage jo throws constanlty but keeps the movement going. his stamina and his abilityt o take it it into another gear when needed is good too very tough. underated footwork.
cotto throws very technical punches his placement is sick an accurate. he has a great jab and when his feet is planted he punches with the best he has undderated speed and his timing is great.
joe punch placement isnt that great reason why he throws volumes of punches.
and because of his bad hands he doesnt really punch hard more like chopping punches.
cotto squares up alot when he get into gun fights which causes him to take punches
and he also leans in past his lead foot which leaves him open to uppercuts. when his feet is planted and his punches short working behind the jab he was a champion.
Cotto has more skill, but Calzaghe had the heart and determination! He beat Hopkins, enough said!!
I think Cotto has more skill but if they were the same size Calzaghe would probably beat him.
He just finds a way.
Calzaghe was terrible against Hopkins and he still won. He shortened up his punches and just stabbed at 'Nard like he was holding a bayonnet after the first four rounds when it was looking bad. He found a way.
I would've loved to see Calzaghe faced with more adversity though because that's when he showed greatness. Even his KO of Byron Mitchell was great - Joe was very close to getting KO'd in that one.
Cotto might be that more fundamentally sound boxer but Calzaghe is way more craftier and can adapt something Cotto has trouble doing. Cotto only way of adapting is getting on the bicycle and circle the ring while Joe can tie up, slap, etc.
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

thats not a skill :slap:
So the ability to be able to change your game plan by being smart and physically doing something different to have a positive effect is not a skill? Then sorry I don't understand. If you can adjust is cause you are physically able to do different things in the ring
