If everyone is so dedicated to see how a boxer and MMA fighter would fare against eachother on an EVEN playing field - Here is an idea on how it should be set up..
This is pure sport and both rules will apply...
3x - 4 min rounds...
1 minute rest
Pride Style Ring with MMA Gloves of course (No Cage)
Each round will be divided up between Boxing Rules (10 Count) and MMA rules (Tap out/KO)..
Round 1 - Whichever style goes first will be determined during the negotiations.
0-59 Seconds - Boxing Rules (forcing the mma fighter to survive on his feet)
1:00 - 1:59 - MMA Rules (forcing the Boxer survive the ground onslaught)
2:00 - 2:59 - Boxing Rules
3:00 - 4:00 - MMA Rules
Round 2
Same as above but switch the order to MMA goes first.
Round 3 - If the fight goes to the 3rd round then.
The order will be determined prior to the fight by a coin toss..
I feel this would truly depict who would win on an even playing field and there would be no excuses to follow...This would not be difficult to constuct because the amount of time it takes to stand fighters up is a matter of seconds.. They could have a specific bell to signal the ref to change the styles...
James lasted well over a minute on the ground, i would've liked to see if Randy could've survived 1 minute standing up...
Just an idea to mix styles without so many advantages..
it is nauseating, as a fan of boxing and mma, to listen to armchair critics discredit MMA senselessly without any basis or evidence at all. Baseless accusations like, 'ohh, they are gay, they aren't even athletes with skill' are just about the most simple minded reasons one can use to discredit mma and immediately rids them of any credibility. The reason is, had they actually trained jiu jitsu, not even mma, just jiu jitsu, one tenth of the skills needed to become proficient at mma on a good level, then they would know immediately how ridiculous their comments were.
with all that said, I totally understand the MMA hating mentality on the part of boxing watchers. They grew up on a sport that is suddenly being threatened by a newer, more comprehensive rival, so they feel the need to attack it. My own boxing coach thinks boxing takes no skill and all mma fighters must suck since people sometimes get KO'd in the first round. A close friend of mine says boxing is better because whenever a fight goes to the ground, it is boring and confusing. All these cases stem from lack of knowledge and understanding.
No,he's speaking to a true fan of the sport of boxing, who will defend the sport's honor against those who seek to attack it.
I am under no obligation to respect any MMGAY "fighter.I don't regard them as real fighters or even real professional athletes.
I am sorry that you've decided to turn over to the dark side, gabby.Guess you bought into the MMGAY propaganda and believe that this "fight" actually meant something.
Im boxing first and foremost, but I enjoy MMA too. You're welcome to your opinion, but the bold shows exactly why you're a troll. You have admittedly never fought before yet see fit to judge others who actually go to a gym and train. Judge not, lest ye be judged. Boxing doesn't need some armchair warrior who has never been in a fight before to defend and troll for it. This sport has been under attack for over 100 years and is still going strong.

Which style would benefit from a soft-style mat (Anything other than concrete)? Wrestling!
You've got to be kidding, all the non-wrestlers/judokas who compete in MMA should be happy as hell there is a mat. Imagine getting clinched then elevated 7 ft in the air and dropped on your head on concrete. Ya not a pretty site.
You're speaking to a joker who has never been in a ring nor a cage and has no idea how difficult either really are. It's easy to throw mud from behind a keyboard, which is all he does.

Only a homosexual would use Gay sex to describe MMA to another person.
Really? So two grown,half-naked men, rolling around, grappling one another has nothing to do with it?
Are you really so naive to believe that I am the only one who thinks this way?
This is what the average person thinks when they see MMGAY for the first time:
Runners, don't twist, pivot, pendulum step, etc. Boxers/kickboxers do. 90% of sports use shoes. It's for a reason.
Like I said show me an actual scientific study that proves this.
MMGAY requires no skill,no athleticism and definately no durability.MMGAY is a bunch of glass jawed grapplers who love to roll around in their undies with other men.
Only a homosexual would use Gay sex to describe MMA to another person.
So how are you dealing with that? Being Gay?
you sound dumb as fukk..go to a mma gym and say this sh1t i bet you leave a bloody mess

And what studies have you actually performed to prove your theory accurate? Or are you just taking a wild fuking guess?

Best post in this miserable thread.
Everyone who is a MMA fanboy, please GTFO our boxing site and go over to that homosexual site shitdog.
Thank you.
Uh Oh TERRITORIAL DISPUTES!!! CALL THE CRIPS!!!! :lol1:

Rubbing your genitals over another man's body is not real fighting.Getting rendered unconscious at the first glancing shot that makes contact with your chin is not a real fighter. They are mentally weak cowards who will back down and immediately look for a safer option once you stand your ground.
Attempting to take another man to the ground to lay on top of him is a gutless move that nobody in the real world would ever attempt.Molesting another man on the ground might be an acceptable art in redneck country,ut here,in the real world, the most respected form of fighting is pugilism.
You don't see two pissed off guys, who absolutely detest one another attempt to settle their differences by attempting to smother the other's face with his pelvis. You don't see them looking to shot for the takedown and attempting place another man's arm or leg in-between his legs, placed right on the groin area - because that practice is acceptable for homosexuals only.
I suggest these MMGAY apologists stick with the other closest cases over at S*itdog.
what boxers should start doing is stop talking trash about mma. Dam when they go into mma they lose everytime.
You dont see mixed martial artists talk trash about boxers striking
Who the fuk is stopping the boxer from learning how to defend it? Nobody is stopping him!!!
You think a straight kick boxer or straight Mu Thai fighter knows how to stop take downs? No!!! They had to learn just like a boxer does!!
Seriously you ass hats act like Boxing is the only form of striking used in MMA it's not! There are lots of fighters in MMA that want to keep the fight standing who are not boxers. They took the time to learn take down defense so what the fuk is stopping boxers from learning the same thing?
Sounds to me like you are just making excuses for boxers to be lazy.
because the guys that have talked **** basically said you stand with me im knocking you out, and for the most part they are right. but to step into the octagon with total disrespect for the ground game wont help to stop takedowns or avoid clinches. but the **** talk about mma's stand up is real talk. there is no one who can stand and bang with a boxer.
im afraid either sport wont have an elite fighter making a transition any time soon since it means a career change and we all know how hard it is for these guys to get to the top in their respected divisions. thats why we will only see boxers who can no longer make a run for the title, let alone get a fight that any media networks would even bother covering. Toney is not going to get a chance to fight anyone relevant in boxing, but Couture looks like he may make another run at the title @ light heavy. make any sense.
Ok, fair enough, but my point is, what does the rule favor? I get that wrestlers like shoes too, but in a fight, if shoes are not worn, you're telling me the impact on the style is the same across the board?? No way.
No it doesn't impact guys across the board the same way but it does impact them in different ways
Wrestler not wearing wrestling shoes has an impact just like boxers not wearing boxing shoes. Each guy has to adapt.
brazilian jiu jujitsu fighters are not allowed to wear a gi under the current rules. A gi is a weapon itself and Brazilian jiu jujitsu fighters have to adapt to not being allowed to wear one.
Its as even playing field that you are going to get while being approved by state athletic commissions(no headbutts, eye gouging..etc)
Every style has to adapt in MMA. You know going in you are going to compete against another guy under some safety rules for 5 min rounds, no shoes, no shirt and wearing 4 oz gloves. How you choose to prepare for that fight is up to you

Haha, no they can't man. Have you ever tried Boxing with no shoes?? Totally, totally different.
Are you fuking kidding me? Thanks to thousands of years of human evolution being barefoot is actually the safest way to perform any major activites that involve running, jumping, or athletic activity.
Why do you think people from the sudan in Africa are the worlds greatest long distance runners? Because thy spend most of their lives barefoot!!! Fuk man get a clue!
Have you ever tried Collegiate wrestling without shoes?

And don't get me wrong. I'm not hating on MMA.
I just have two points here:
1. It's just not a level playing field for all martial arts
2. Toney/Couture proved nothing other than Randy Couture can beat James Toney in an UFC sanctioned fight.

Dude Ray Mercer is ANCIENT, RETIRED.
Your Argument would make sense if it was a current, young, or atleast ACTIVE BOXER.
KJ noons is an active talented Boxer who has had a lot of success in MMA and you know why? Because he has a fuking ground game!!!
Thats what it all comes down too. If a boxer wants to be able to make his boxing askills work in a cage he has to have a ground game the end.
It's doesn't matter if you have Pacman or Floyd Mayweather in there. No ground game=useless boxing skills.
