It seems Freddie Roach has created a new feud, this time instead of having the Mayweather family at his neck, he has legendary trainer Emanuel Steward coming at him.
In an article by Fight Chronicles Manny Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, made arrogant comments that rubbed the usually calm Steward the wrong way. Roach was asked if he would take a Miguel Cotto rematch now that he has a new trainer in Emanuel Steward and Roach confidently stated that having Steward in Cotto’s corner wouldn’t “make a damn bit of difference” in a rematch and Roach further said, “I would take another Cotto fight even with Steward in his corner in a heartbeat because it was that easy.”
It seems the fame and praise Freddie Roach has received since being featured on HBO 24/7 and having Manny Pacquiao as his star pupil, has gone to the once quiet and respectful trainers head.
Steward also laughed at Roach’s statement defending the choice of controversial boxer Antonio Margarito as Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent, saying “he has to feed his family and make a living”
“Come on that’s a joke,” says Emanuel Steward on Roach’s reasoning, “he’s just saying whatever Bob Arum wants him to say.”
“He needs to be a trainer. Lately he’s been saying things that don’t sound like him; now its just like he thinks of the big paydays.” Steward told Fight Chronicles.
Steward believes Roach has lost his way as a boxing trainer and is acting more like a promoter or hype man. Steward believes that Roach is only in it for the big paydays now and not what is ethically fair and right.
“People need to remember when they are trainers. I know I do. He needs to think about the fights and what is fair and right and stop chasing paydays because now he’s (just) following through with what he is being told to say.”

No Benavidez started thru the amateurs with his father Benavidez Sr. Gomez also finished thru the amateurs with someone else but it sure as hell wasnt Roach.
You're right about that.
Roach isn't sh*t compared to Steward.
Not only did Manny make a champ out of Tommy Hearns, but he did the exact same with Hilmer Kenty and Milton McCrory.
Of course these stupid asses on this this site wouldn't know anything about it.
Didnt Benavidez and F.Gomez start with Roach?

yep, so I dunno why Steward is attacking Roach about paydays
Yea same here. He agreed to train Foreman and then left him because Cotto made him a big offer:nono:
maybe steward is bitter because he used to be the guy everyone wanted in the corner. he used to be the flavor of the month trainer, getting all the paydays.
Steward's resume speaks for itself and he has done more for the sport than sorry ass Freddie Roach could ever hope to do.
That being said he has become a mercenary trainer himself, but not because he always wanted to. The combination of his early success and the lack of talented fighters coming out of Detroit really left him no choice in his career path.
You never catch Steward saying the kind of nonsense that Freddie does, when he gives a predication it is always matter of fact and supported by some kind of evidence.
I can say though, that Steward has gotten to the point where his schedule is so packed with HBO engagements and requirements to be in camps for championship fights that he neglects the current crop of solid young fighters coming out of Detroit.
J'Leon Love and Dominique Dolton are two young guys who excelled as amateurs under the Kronk banner but they have been largely neglected as pros. I believe that Love actually left Kronk to move to New York and I think Dolton is on the verge of a similar move as he feels like he isn't being properly managed.
true
but you still havent answered the question of who has Roach brought up from the begining til his down fall
can you name one?
Ok you pretty much got me there because i dont really know roach's early history but why does that matter? Fighters come to Roach and succeed under him.
The top fighters are flocking to him for a reason
Thats not selling out?:pat:
"Selling out" refers to the compromising of one's integrity, morality and principles in exchange for money
^^^exactly what Steward did.
And yes Steward did that in the beginning of his career but now he just takes in the big fighters, maybe Wlad and Cotto come to mind

Dude thats not what selling out means. Roach trains anyone with money or can bring in money, dude trains circus acts and all he cares about in recent years is about the limelight and being in the media and having a bunch of tv interviews and da $$$. While Steward selects his fighters carefully and grooms them to his style like a fine racehorse. Roach doesnt even bring anyone up from the lower ranks to top, its the top fighters who go to him.

this isnt a jab back at you chups just a question that I dont have an answer to
how many trainer of the year or decade awards has Roach won without Pac?
Word. Just because he gets along great with Pac doesn't make him the trainer of the year. He only won it because he's Manny's mouthpiece, which was a smart move on his part.
How many Trainer of the Year awards did Steward receive??
Trainer Of The Decade *****es. :D

Sold out? Really? Like Steward dropping Yuri Foreman after agreeing with him for a large sum of money that Cotto offered?
Thats called selling out
Roach loves the sport and trains fighters with Parkinsons and does a damn good job with them.

i sort of agree. when roach had manny, toney, penalosa, vasquez etc circa 2006 you didint hear all of this nonsense. I do wish that Roach would just fall back most of the time.
Steward is pure class and is way ahead in terms of coaching than Roach, dude is teaching circus MMA clowns doesnt care who he takes. Pack wouldve been a champ regardless of who the trainer was unless they were pure retards not to use his skills. Look at the depth of Stewards fighters and knowledge its miles ahead of roach (hes a damn good trainer). How can you be dedicated to 20 people at the same time? Sounds like he sold out and went hollywood on us training a bunch of people in boxing and mma and is looking to get his picture out there.

Steward talkin about chasing paydays?
wasn't he recently tryin to get a PAC-Cotto rematch?
dafukkoutta here with your 1981 flat top
So? Cotto came to him not the other way around and if he thinks Cotto has a shot to beat Pac why not? Also, Roach has said to every person who walks into his gym... I mean come on, you really think Roach accepted to train Chavez because he thinks the kid is going to be any good? He's bigs in money and thats why Roach said yes, its as simple as that. Steward has said several times he respects the **** out of Cotto because he has heart and he doesn't duck anyone. He also loves Cotto's style and feels he can legitimately make him better... stop talking about a subject you have no clue on.
It's obvious that you have not been watching boxing very long. Name ONE great fighter that Freddie Roach has developed from amateur to the professional ranks....I'll wait.
