James Toney is OLD, FAT and SHOT

Not as old and shot as couture was. couture is 47 years old and has 10 losses. And he still man handled Toney like a child. Couture was still competing with top 10 ranked opponents like Lesnar and Nogueira in MMA...hes much like Hopkins, who despite his age, is still relevant in MMA because of his outstanding work ethic and smarts. Toney hasnt even come close to beating a top 10 opponent in his own sport in 4 years now, and didnt deserve wins against Danny Betchelder(presently rated #175 in boxing) and obviously lost to Fres Oquendo(who just sucks). honestly, I thought this was common sense, but some of you are under the delusion that he is actually still good in some way. heres a sad fact: hes not even close. -James Toney has not had a good 'win' since he was robbed against Sam Peter...4 years ago. -James Toney has gotten a questionable decision over journeyman Danny Betchelder and obviously lost against Fres Oquendo in his most recent relevant fight. -His last fight(almost a year ago) he looked terrible agaisnt a bum -His prime was about 16+ years ago, and 50+ lbs ago -He is going into a much different sport with only a few months of training in it, when in his own sport HE ISNT EVEN TOP 50 ANYMORE. -Anyone else notice in recent pictures that Toney's eyes are a little yellow? I have. In case you didnt know, thats a condition called jaundice, which is a liver problem...very often caused by consistant heavy drinking. not something you often see in 'active athletes', eh? -Prime James Toney was great to see. But he is at his WORST right now, physically and in terms of skill. -Honestly, I dont need to even bring up these facts, because anyone who has seen his recent training footage 'highlights' can see hes terrible now. Not even his boxing looks very good anymore. Anyone thinking that he is even a shell of his former self needs a wakeup call, and right away. Think about it: Toney is not even televised in his own sport anymore, thats how low hes fallen. and yet he just jumped up to the co-main event against a 47 year old on an important card? In a street fight, a 47 year old can help you more with Wrestling than even the best of boxers with their striking. thats baloney. what matters in a street fight is who has the gun or knife or any weapon, and if you dont have any then whoever gets the first shot to the balls wins. I hate it when people believe that MMA=street fighting, when its obviously not true. and do I have to remind you again that Toney was WAY more past his prime than Couture anyway? Boxer vs MMA will always have that result. Always. The distance is different and boxers don't like kicks in the legs... Prime Pacquiao would be wasted too. This is baloney too. Kicking actually has a lot of flaws, and they leave you really off balance and open to punches. Im not just bull****ting, Ive seen it a few times before, and have tried it out myself. not only that, but kicking leaves you more open to be taken down. Kicking can be a dangerous weapon, but it has some bad weaknesses too. Grappling is the true decider in mma. thats why wrestling and BJJ are the predominant deciders in the sport: if you dont have experience in it, then you cant dictate how the fight will play out.

Of course I'll be rooting for Toney, I'd be ****ing delighted to see him win, but he's not a good ambassador for the sport. If we had to send an old, faded Heavyweight in there we should have sent Holyfield.

No offence but I have sparred with a firend who does martial arts. Punches, of coruse I'm good, but he started doing **** with his legs and I didn;t have a clue what to do. In boxing, you don't look at feet too much, but that is a abd thing VS MAA guy. If it was someone like David Haye who is fast, has legs and reflexes and pretty strong, then yes, but Toney hasn't actually looked great for a while. Couture is old, but he's pretty much still a good fighter and this is his game. If Toney wins, I'll be happy but surprised. Ive also sparred friends that do mma, and something that people overlook a lot of the time is how vulnerable a person is when theyre kicking. kicks can definitely hurt...but theyre much slower and leave you WAY more off balance than punches.(after all, youre only on one leg). While a lot of people trained in boxing freeze when kicks come because theyre totally unfamiliar with them, the smart thing to do is actually scoot foward and punch. moving forward somewhat negates the (leg) kick because the angle is messed up, and the punch will likely land since the guy is on one leg. even if its blocked, the punch will probably still send them to the ground because their balance is so messed up.

Couture is like Hopkins: he took care of himself all these years, and its paying off now that he can still do the basics and for the most part still compete with the top guys. Couture has recently only lost to top ten ranked mma guys. meanwhile Toney is a middleweight who has spent the last four years pigging out and having mediocre performances, and has been losing to journeymen like Danny Betchelder and Fres Oquendo. Lesnar gave him a hellish beating if Randy dont get Toney to the ground it could be lights out.
