Immediately after his loss last Saturday, all these articles emerged talking about his financial troubles, problems with his manager the pawn shop owner, James Prince, etc. It's certainly a sacrifice to tarnish his 29-0 record. But think about it. His loss has actually kept his name in headlines and he probably figured it will help him become a bigger star.
If he won, it would just be like all his previous fights, and be swept under the rug a day or two later being the boring guy that he is. We all know he had a million ways to beat Pascal, he simply didn't try hard enough. He probably got serious in the11th round to gauge how he would do if he was really serious. But now he has to avenge his loss, which creates an intriguing storyline.
So in other words, this loss creates more $$ and drastically more buzz for him in the long run.
Yeah..........that is what happened
He is going to dominate the amateurish Pascal in a rematch because that is the best Pascal can fight and everyone knows Dawson is much much better than he showed last week.
That's not true and i have never said that Dawson was a bad fighter, my prediction for the first fight was : Close fight, can't see who is going to win...
Now, i thought it would be a close fight because: Dawson had only watch Pascal once on video against Froch ! That's just weak preparation for a fight, first, Pascal was at 168 in that fight, it was also a learning experience for him and he learned a lot by doing better than he thought ! After that fight, he had 2 great wars against Diaconu "who is underrated btw" with one of them with a separated shoulder. They put his shoulder back in place 3 times during that fight. Pascal went throught surgery and fought Dawson without any tuneup fight in between. Dawson will respect Pascal in the rematch so that will help him but he still has a weak team with him. Pascal will be more confident and knows how to hurt him and at the same time he took Dawson's best uppercut without being KO'd. That's why i see Pascal winning the rematch...
I personally thought Dawson tried at about 50% for a majority of the fight. We saw what he could do when he chose to do something, he almost dropped Pascal. Something was WAY,WAY off with him in that fight.
I don't see how losing helps anything. If anything the loss may be attributed to all the negative things going on in his life/finances in the background. Maybe he was distracted in his training for a very game opponent. And that could be the cause. But the one thing the loss may do is help him realize he has to clear up all those other distractions if he wants to be successful going forward.
He didn't have to lose voluntarily... he got his ass kicked by the WBC WC Jean Pascal, Dawson will lose again in the rematch, fighting grandpa's didn't help his career...
This has actually crossed my mind too. Listen to what Dawson had to say. Like everybody else pointed out, he said he wasn't worried about the loss because of his rematch clause. I don't know if I'd jump to the conclusion that he completely threw the fight on purpose. But knowing he had that rematch clause might have caused him to not try hard enough and he knew if there was a rematch he would get another payday.
Umm no...He had nothing to gain by taking a dive. The undefeated record is more valuable & marketable in this day and age, he had a bad night and simply lost to a better man, it happens.

No, that is absurd
winning would have made him more marketable than losing. specially that he was undefeated. how much money could he possibly make fighting pascal? not enough to settle everything though.
that all sounds a bit ridiculous.
Chad lost fair and square. He'll be back, he's an elite boxer who needs to go away and analyse what went wrong. He'll probably be better for this.
Boxer's lose, it's what happens.
