Starting in 1974 with the rumble in the jungle and Ali is #1 P4P
I'll take a crack at it
Ali
Holmes
Duran
Leonard
JCC
RJJ
Hopkins
Mayweather
Pacman
Did some more research and this is much undisputed except for one thing. Holmes didnt really fight anyone after he beat Spinks. While Duran was like 80-1 beating De jesus 2x and beating Leonard so IMO Duran passed Holmes when he beat De jesus in 1978 even though Holmes didn't loss until 1984 I think.

yep, that looks about right
anyone want to have a guess at the future? who comes after may/pac? PW? Martinez (he's getting on a bit)? B-hop again  ?
Where do you get Hagler in there? Leonard beat Duran had the 3 year hiatus but came back and beat Hagler and didn't lose until 1991.
Pernell never had the resume of JCC. Pernell could never be #1 he is pu$$y and a cheater.
Why is Oscar there? RJJ was #1 from when JCC lost to Randall until he lost to Tarver. And if you are saying RJJ lost to Griffin then why Oscar and not Trinidad? And after RJJ lost to Tarver #1 was clearly Hopkins not Mosley
IMO Mosley and Oscar were never close to being #1 P4P.

this is a dumb list.
leonard fought hearns in 1981 and hagler in 87. when did chavez become number 1? after tyson?
yea that looks about right. Roy Jones had to been the best tho man. Fk he was awesome
no that does not look right.
where is donald curry?
how could chavez take over from leonard? how many years did leonard not fight?
yep, that looks about right

After Floyd/Pac my guess would be
Williams
Gamboa
Duran would have taken the mantle before 78...
SRL had a 5 year retirement with 1 fight in between against an opponent where he didn't look his normal self. In which time Hagler had it. Leonard came back to win a close fight against Hagler and took it back.
Tyson took the mantle with his aura of invincibility and road of destruction.
Chavez didn't lose officially against Whitaker, but he lost the fight. Whitaker was always neck and neck with him and took #1 unanimously with that fight.
Whitaker's performances against Rivera probably lost it for him. Jones Jr. took it and would almost share it with De La Hoya for the next few years.
Ali
Duran
Leonard
Hagler
Leonard
Tyson
Chavez
Whitaker
Jones Jr.
De La Hoya
Jones Jr.
Mosley
Hopkins
Mayweather
Pacquiao
Heres what I came up with:
Ali
Duran
SRL
Hagler
SRL
Tyson
JCC
Sweet Pea
RJJr.
Oscar
RJJr.
SSM
B-Hop
Mayweather
Manny
Give credit where it's due, don't bite my sh!t.

GTFO Pernell is a cheat ***** and he still couldn't beat JCC. LOL who has to throw 9 low blows and still can't win. If there was a competent ref the fight would have been over in the 9th after Pernell hit him with his 6th or 7th low blow.

You are right I need to skip Holmes. Go straight from Ali to Duran, then Duran losses the rematch to Leonard, then Leonard losses to Norris, which leaves JCC as the guy who at the time was like 80 something-0 the
But why do you have Hearns and Hagler there? Correct me if I am wrong but Leonard never lost to them.
So the undisputed #1 P4P timeline is:
Ali losses to Spinks....... Duran takes over from 1978-1980
Duran losses to Leonard......... Leonard takes over from 1980-1991
Leonard losses to Norris....... JCC takes over from 1991-1994
JCC losses to Randall....... RJJ takes over from 1994-2004
RJJ losses to Tarver....... Hopkins takes over from 2004-2005
Hopkins losses to Taylor....... Mayweather takes over from 2005-2007
Mayweather retires......... Pacman takes over from 2007-present
Now if you want to say RJJ lost to Griffin then from RJJ to Felix to Hopkins. But I am not counting that lost.

The 90's belonged to big ass George Foreman :P
bwahahaha! big george was the man. he ruled the 90s but good thing he lost to tommy morrison cuz if he made tommy bleed, big george might have caught the hiv.
but he still became the oldest and fattest lineal heavyweight champ ever.

Ali
Holmes
??????
Duran

Hagler

JCC
RJJ
Hopkins

Just a small note on something here: Duran was considered the next main P4P guy after and during Ali's later time by nearly all 'experts' well before Holmes and the ??????. Duran was thought of as number one up to 1980 and throughout most of the seventies, especially the latter half of the seventies to '80 when Leonard took over from him at the end of '80.
So, it would probably look more like:
Ali
Duran
Leonard
Holmes
I remember Dundee and Jerry Quarry discussing Duran as the pound for pound number one guy around '74/'75 on one of their telecasts when they were both two of the main commentators then. Can't remember which one though.
Edit: Actually, just remembered that it was during Edwin Viruet and then Leoncio Ortiz fights which were both in '75 when most considered him number 1.
So yeah, it would have been Ali, Duran, Leonard up to Hearns and then Holmes and you could easily argue that Hagler or Hearns were higher than Holmes as Hagler had just as dominant a reign and probably against better comp and Hearns was fighting better comp and looking even more scary around the mid eighties before Leonard came back and Hagler retired.
Note: I think Monzon was always just sitting behind Ali and then Duran. So he just misses out on getting number one during the 70's.
