I give the edge to RJJ. They have both taken criticism for not mixing it up enough, Roy's reply to this was "Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit, I dont even like a fly to land on my face". Floyd and prime Roy both had great defence, blazing hand speed, very hard to hit. The biggest difference I see is punching power, I dont recall seeing Floyd score a from behind the back one punch knockout. Roy definitely gets the nod on offence.
Ill say this, Good thing we have video because if we tell our grandchildren about what Roy did in our lifetime, and how he did it: They would never believe it.
Damn right, I dont normally crack up while watching fights, but Roy could do it to me. How he constantly kept that hand down at his waist, and still easily beat the other man to the punch is mind boggling.
Mayweather for me,
How could anyone support Jones that was found using PEDS.
It certainly puts a damper on his accomplishments. And his era was heavy into PEDs. We'll never know how many and it sure looks like we won't even know today's generation.
Guy was unstoppable. It's a shame looking at him fight now :nonono:
:lol1: My brother and I were just talking about that the other day as well. Goddamn Roy, just let it go!
I think you are right, Dazed knows his Roy, and Dazed, I wasnt insinuating that you didnt comprehend the P4P concept, some others responded with "Roy is a lot bigger than Floyd so its not fair".
I know you weren't, bud. And you're right about the showmanship. My brother and I were just remarking the other day about that.
What people forget is..
At one point..
MW > SMW > LHW > HW > LHW
49-1 (only loss by DQ, immediately avenged)
Before he lost.

Dude was a truly special fighter.
You know what's funny? I'm not sure if people were reading boxing mags and stuff back then (before NSB) but with that performance he shut everyone up. Took nearly a year off, came back and stopped Virgil Hill. Then began a six year reign at LHW. We literally got bored. Jones' unfortunate predicament was that he had to weight for either the middleweight stars to move up, or make his own leap to HW. There were no more big fights for him, save for perhaps Dariusz, around. When the Trinidad and Hopkins fights fell through, he really had no other option but to take the far riskier option. He accomplished what he wanted, but paid a heavy, heavy price.
Yeah... I remember in an interview what he said..
"If I could take back going up to heavyweight and then having to lose all that weight and ruining my body would I have taken it back?
Absolutely not..... I made history."
I am amazed that several people responded to this thread and totally missed the concept of a POUND FOR POUND comparison.
Dazed, you forgot one thing. Roy was also one of the straight up greatest showmen in the history of the sport. Look up some of his highlights on youtube, you will laugh your ass off at the way he clowned his opponents.
I don't think Dazed needs to look it up. :lol1:

Lmao!!!
Epic!
Seriously, the dude is unbelievable.
The looping punch on Richard Hall in my sig is absurd.
Seriously... he pulled that chicken move on James Toney
James Toney.
Let me say it again.
He pulled a chicken move................. on James.... f*ck... Toney.
Montell was pissing him off in their first fight, fighting an ugly awkward fight.. then Roy gets DQ'ed... then Montell talks shit in the news how he was beating Roy before it was stopped anyway.
Then Roy gets even more pissed.
Epicly pissed.
And then the rematch happened.
LOL.

Dude, I was sooooooooo mad when they Dq'ed Roy in that fight! Man, I can't express it on here. But, ONE round later changed all of that. :lol1:
No question Mayweather is the more orthodox boxer. Roy's style was one in a million. Damn near impossible to duplicate. And he was skillful. Like Floyd, he was basically born in the ring. So aside from his athletic ability, he was a boxer first and foremost. A student of the game who could look like a completely different fighter in each round of a twelve rounder. Beautiful left hook, excellent combinations, power in each fist, perhaps the fastest hands ever. A great body puncher. A master of defense - utilized his reflexes but parried as good as any fighter I've ever seen. Watch closely. An amazing fighter.
Totally agree! and if some don't.....YALL MUST OF FORGOT!
A boxer that was so fast he could use his left hook like a jab..CRAZY!
HE had boxers afraid to throw a punch at him because of his super counter punching.
I hate to keep going :lol1: but I forget that he was a great counterpuncher as well. Always two steps ahead and with enough power to leave you looking at the lights when he saw an opening. That 1-2 off Reggie Johnson's dome should be showcased at a museum. Reggie thought he had Roy lined up for his own combo--he did the ole' Neo in the Matrix maneuver when he got decked :lol1:.
I dont know of another fighter in history who could have pulled off that "I put my hands behind my back stick my chin out wait for you to swing and knock you out with one punch"

Yall musta forgot.
