This could be 100pct bullshit but hear me out. I play professional hockey In the American Hockey League (AHL). The only other sport i participate in is Boxing as a training regiment for my profession and just bc i love the challenge. Anyways i was recently vacationing is Puerto Rico to visit my girlfriends family. Since i was there for 2 weex i payed fora bi-weekly membership at a gym that my agent told me had alot of up and coming pro fighters that train there. anyways the man (carlos who also runs the place) that was letting me hit the bag with him said that a source very close to miguels right hand man informed him that the meeting between the two wasnt just to discuss co-promoting but an eventual bout between the 2. Personally i dont know how truthfull it is considering that Arum wasnt there and Cotto always says that Bob Arum is in charge of picking and setting his fights. Thats all ive heard so i will leave it at that, just wanted to give my fellow die hard fight fas the ehads up. And FYI Carlos is probably in his 60s so its not like i heard this from some kid that just shoots off at the mouth but 4 all i know the guy coulda been wacked out of his mind.
i think May-Cotto would outperform May-Mosely
cotto's drawing power is underrated for the most part. he's not thee top dog, but he is probably one of the top draws. all it takes is the right mega fight to become a mega seller.
if this fight gets made (may vs cotto) wouldnt it mean that this was arums plan the whole time and somehow floyd would be getting a little extra for letting this scenerio happen? let marg and pac fight, may fights cotto and then the big fight in 2011 with may vs pac. that would be three fighters under arum, all of them ppv attractions, and millions in the bank. more so than just having may vs pac. from a business stand point it makes sense but damn that would be retarded.
If Arum really wanted to make as much money as possible, he would do Cotto-Margarito II, which would be huge. Meanwhile, Pacquiao takes on Bradley or another unknown and they do a 75-25 split (meaning Arum gets the lion's share also). And then do Pacquiao vs Cotto/Margarito winner. And Then top it off with Pacquiao-Mayweather in the fall next year.
In your scenario, Mayweather/GBP get half or more on several fights.
Damn, you people are hard to please.
I will never be mistaken for a Mayweather fan, but a fight w/ Cotto would be legit. It would be a blockbuster too, easily 1 million+ buys. So what if Cotto lost to Manny recently? That's why they get in the ring, to test themselves and compete. Plus, it's the old adage- styles make fights. Cotto is a bigger (weight-wise), stronger version of Jose Louis Castillo and Manny Steward brought his jab back and his footwork was crisp so he could make the fight interesting, especially if he goes to the body like the Cotto of old.
That would be a great fight, stop whining.

It shouldn't! Thats a BS fight! pbf should be slapped for fighting cotto. Thats pbf/gatti(RIP) II. Who is paying for that?
pbf takes PW, Bradley, SM, Angulo, Khan only in the UK only inside Wembley, or .......? But not cotto!
Unless, they co-promote with their own companies. Smart money.

seriously guy....
i want to see mayweather-pacquiao...
not mayweather- (guy pacquiao just stopped).
i guess that's just me tho,

i would like to see that as well but Cotto is the biggest payday out there for him right now and an easy fight.
it's one thing to take the biggest payday, it's another thing fighting a fight nobody gives a damn about.....but i guess i manny can do it, why can't floyd right?
even as a mayweather fan, i'd seriously have a tough time trying to defend him for taking this fight tho....
besides, i think he'd do just as good numbers fighting PW, or martinez at MW, as he would fighting cotto.
i can't ride with floyd on this one......
in all his other "biggest payday available" fights, you could always find SOMEBODY who favored the other guy in the fight. i think you'd be hard-pressed finding ANYBODY favoring cotto here.
Floyd better fight somebody, he takes a year off and comes at Pac in 2011 with the old,"I need some money to put gas in my plane" mentality...Im betting on Manny. I'd pick Floyd's style over Manny's anyday of the week, but if he pulls that stunt he's gonna lose.
Exactly man, I'm with you on that. Unless it's Martinez, Paul Williams or Pacquiao I'm not buying the PPV. And this is coming from someone who has bought every Mayweather PPV since Judah.

Descent matchup we all know the result already. After that Floyd takes another year vacation and comes back to fight another low risk high reward fighter.
for floyd right now, it has to be martinez or PW, or floyd needs to sit his ass down....and i'm a fan.

I'm more interested in knowing what AHL team you play for than Mayweather-Cotto.
That's a pretty big deal. Probably the best of all the minor hockey leagues
That's the scary thing :nonono: :nonono:
i agree. i'm about as excited about this fight, as i am about pacquiao-margarito. :nonono:
i'm a mayweather fan, but even i don't understand the rationale in this fight. we want mayweather-pacquiao, pacquiao just destroyed cotto.....not to mention, mayweather has already won a title at 154, so there goes that.
I would have to say a mayweather cotto would be good, But a Cotto Sergio Martinez fight would be even better. I personally think that if pacquiao wants to move up weight to fight for an 8th belt he should fight the top guy in that division. and that is Sergio Martinez!!!
Appreciate the information.
I have an impossible time believing this fight could happen. But a lot of people are hearing similar things.

He's full of shit. No fighter at his level lets their promoter pick his fights without his approval.
