No. Because he was getting raped by pitty pat punches late in the fight. Called quitter by many, no heart, etc. Then in Margo's next fight he was caught with plaster.
It's a disgraceful, shameful night for boxing. A young champion's career was (maybe) forever derailed and no one is going to pay for it.
Still some people play around with it like nothing happened because "nothing was proven", still putting the burden of proof on the possible victims instead of the caught cheater. Playing around with presumption of innocence, etc.
It wasnt plaster that was beating Cotto, it was Margs pressure.
I think he probably had whatever it was in his handwraps during the cotto fight but I dont think that is the reason Marg won.

I guess, if we make the assumption that he cheated, i agree.
Because he lost? There is no shame in losing. It's part of the sport. You have the exact attitude I hate about many ricans towards our sportsmen, as long as they win you love to bask in their glory but once they lose they are a disgrace, shot, broken etc...

It was a great fight, one that I enjoyed watching from time to time.
I remember having a fight night with fam and friends. It was jaw dropping. I rooted for Margo and my friends rooted for Cotto. I knew Cotto was going to box and Margo was going to fight. To watch my PR friends faces after the fight was priceless!
Unfortunately, the wrap contraversy has ruined the experience for me, and as a result can no longer support Margo. On the otherhand, I always liked Cotto, after the fight I had a new respect for him and has made me a solid fan of his.
i could imagine!!
i was down in mexico with my uncles cuzins etc. everyy1 was there... i rememeber as if it was yesturday man.. we were worried for margo the the 1st couple of rounds! i was the 1 sayin that cotto was gonna break down since margo broke his nose early in the fihgt... good thing that happend for margo... then the mid rounds came along .. and BAM BAM BAM margo was commin forward and finally victory!!
i focked up my voice 4 all the shoutin lol... we all went crazy that night...
Total disgrace. Not exactly a Cotto fan. But a disgraceful, shameful night.

Has it been 2 years already? incredible how time just flies by like that. What a fight, must have watched this fight about 20+ times already in the last two years, never gets boring, there was so much at stake, too much intensity, too much bravado, both men wanted to win big and Cotto's boxing skill was almost perfect except for the fact that he just doesn't know how to hold, but then again that's why he's such an exciting fighter to watch, he takes risks.
Margarito on the other hand was like an unmovable object, strong to the core, you could tell he wanted to win this fight more than anything and it's shown on the way he fought that night, like a beast that had been locked up for so long and finally let out to hunt that night.
This fight really established itself as one of the greatest boxing fights of our era, it's a shame all that hand wrap bullshit had to happen in the end and taint such a great victory and accomplishment by Margarito and also the valiant effort Cotto displayed up until the end.
Respect. I hate Margo for winning but that fight proved who the best welterweights truly were. Mayweather, the giant bleeding puss that he is, would never face either at their peaks. He knew he was getting stomped.
Props!!! This fight was one of the best i've ever been too..Just the atmosphere in arena was intense...kinda felt the same way in the staples center before the fight with Shane went down!!!!

Good fight, I was watching it at home with my then girlfriend. I was hyping up cotto and she was like " Marg is landing alot to the body" I was just watching cotto and forgot to look at the other fighter. And in a blink of an eye, cotto took that knee and then it was over. Cotto lost the belt and I dumped that bitch
pay some respect to one of the best fights recently.
I have to agree, that fight was epic, even though now it's not as spoken about because of what happened after, i do believe it was one of the best fights in the last few years.

Still ****ing jealous you went to that fight :nonono:
Best fight I ever went to (action based) was Cotto - Mosley in MSG... Extremely competitive, but didn't match the massacreness of Cotto - Margarito.
I went to Mosley vs Cotto too. Really dope atmosphere that night! I don't think the telecast did that fight justice as far as the sound of both Mosley and Cotto landing during exchanges. I was looking at the people I went with like, "God damn..."
Legendary fight. I was lucky enough to be there with some pretty damn good seats.
Met Paul Pierce, Winky Wright, and Mike Tyson that night.
After the fight was stopped, the arena was buzzing with electricity for about 15 minutes. Everyone was basking in the beautiful murder they had just witnessed and the fact that Margarito finally triumphed after years of hard work.
It was the best fight I had been to since seeing Pac/Morales 1 in the same arena.
Epic battle between the hardcore champs of our time and space.
Mayweather wouldn't know nothing about it.

Awesome fight! Definitely turned the WW division upside down being they were patterning Cotto to fight Oscar, and eventually Floyd. Crazy how 1 fight changes things.
