EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: TIMOTHY BRADLEY
By G. Leon
GL: Congrats on your victory over Abregu. Can you give us some thoughts on that performance? "It was ok. I did what I had to do to win the fight. He was a big strong guy and a big puncher so I had to be real cautious. He was really defensive in the fight. He really didn't let his hands go too much and when he did he got caught. I give myself a C+. I like to stay active. I've been inactive for seven or eight months before this fight. But no excuses. I still got the victory, a unanimous decision and now it's time to move on to bigger and better things."
GL: Were you not as impressed with the performance against Abregu than your other recent performances?
Timothy Bradley: "Yeah. I just felt that if I would have tried more I could have possibly gotten caught. I played it a little on the safe side because I felt that if I tried to do too much, I could've gotten caught. I'm my own worst critic so when I was in there I was like what's going on? I can't tag this guy like I want to tag him. I did what I had to do to win. I rocked the guy a couple of times, couldn't finish him. It was a good decent performance, but it wasn't my best."
GL: Obviously you feel better at 140.
TB: "Yeah. I actually felt stronger at 147, but I feel I'm that much better and quicker at 140. I feel poised. When I feel strong I like to fight too much. There were times against Abregu where I took chances and I exchanged with him because I was bored. I felt that he couldn't hurt me because I saw all of the punches coming. They were heavy punches, but they weren't stinging punches. Kendall Holt had stinging punches, this guy had heavy punches."
GL: Right after the fight you called out Pacquiao. Since then his next fight against Antonio Margarito has been solidified. What do you think about Pacquiao-Margarito?
TB: "Pacman is going to run right through him. You saw what Shane did to him. Pacman is a mover and he's going to punch right between those long arms and he's going to blow Margarito out of the water. Margarito with all the scandal that he went through, I think it's pathetic for him to get this shot. People could say I'm not worthy all they want, but what has Margarito done since he got caught? Him getting this shot is ridiculous, it's embarrassing and it's pathetic."
GL: The next name out of your mouth was Devon Alexander. Is he tops on your...
TB: (cutting in) "Devon is definitely tops on my list. We're actually trying to negotiate with them right now for a big showdown with Devon Alexander and myself. I think right now the biggest fight would be Devon. It just comes down to a matter of numbers and we can get it on. Gary Shaw and Cam have been going back and forth and I think that fight will definitely possibly be made for my next fight."
GL: It will definitely possibly be made. Thanks for the sure answer. If HBO wants the fight the money is going to be right.
TB: "Then we're fighting. Nothing is for sure in this game. Khan's people have been in touch with Golden Boy about. After my last performance it seems guys are stepping up because they don't think I'm as invincible as they thought. "
GL: Do you have any regrets about making your HBO debut at welterweight instead of your natural weight class?
TB: "Absolutely not because it just opened up other doors. Khan didn't want to see me at first, but now he's mentioning me like he can take me or something. I've been hearing Victor Ortiz call my name out and he's the #1 contender for the WBO, so we'll see what happens. The biggest fight out there for me is Devon Alexander or Amir Khan."
GL: Closing thoughts?
TB: "I just want to thank all the haters out there to keep hating on me. It's motivational therapy for me. I want to thank God first and foremost for putting me in this position. I want to thank my fans and thank ********** for always giving a place to speak my mind."
From Boxing talk.
Yeah the news was that Shaw is busy working on making this fight. I am hopeful we will see it in January. This would be a great fight- two undefeated champions at the top of their division going at it. This is what boxing needs right now :boxing:
A young, hungry fighter that is not hesitant to talk about the big names but also is eager to prove himself... I love it. He's not like some cats who call out fighters and then want to call them duckers instead of continuing to work to earn their shot. This is how its done much respect.
He sounds more humble and open-minded in this interview. Good thing he's now finally talking about wanting to fight Alexander, and putting him "tops on the list". I'm totally sure that this fight won't be a missed opportunity, whether it's late in the year or in '11. It'll happen.
The fact is, they need each other right now to properly progress in the division - for each time they beat someone, whether it be Khan, Judah, Ortiz, etc., they'll constantly get asked about each other. The only way to shut everyone up about that question is to fight! :box2:
That fight makes my mouth water. Personally I would have liked to wait a little longer, just because this is the sort of bout that should be shown all over this world, it could be that big between two bonafide future superstars. That being said you don't know what happens in the future so let's get this shit on.
finally a fight fans want to see
the question is will khan keep his word and fight the winner? he could fight ortiz or maidana in the meantime
best case scenario is 140 having a last man standing by may
Khan will probably fight Marquez next.
After that all bets are off.

" It will definitely possibly be made"
Good to hear though, hopefully this happens next.
:lol1: This is definitely, possibly, maybe, sort of .... for sure, a great interview.
I like it. at least the dude's pretty honest. didn't talk that "money talk" so blatantly.
he's right. Devon's been calling him out. And Ortiz called him out recently as well. Top money fight is Khan @ 140.
respect.
