Gomez has more of a pro style, but his lack of pop will hurt him at this level.
Who's been telling y'all frankie has no pop, frankie had 126 w with 95 ko if I'm not mistaken, theirs reason behind the hype, the kid been kayoing guys with helmets and big gloves, that's why he's so higly reguarded
I've barely seen his fights as a pro, I'm talking about sparring.
By the time he hits 20 or so pro fights, not many fighters will be able to walk in on him like that without him catching them with a hard shot. I saw glimpses of it in this fight, but he's not set when he does throw.
Freddie Roach will develop the kid so it's almost impossible to just walk in on him. I guarantee it.
I agree, but I doubt Benavidez will have to show and prove how good his chin is as much as Frankie will if he stays the way he is.
When you can't really fight on the inside, you have 2 options: learn how to fight on the inside or find ways of not having to fight there. The Klitschko's chose hiding it, but it's definitely harder at the lower weights, Benavidez is going to have to do something about it.
If you watched the last Fight Night Club, you saw that Gomez needs more improvement to get to the top level than Benavidez does though.
Possibly, but I doubt it.
It has nothing to do with changes, it has to do with the level of opposition he has been in with as a pro.

Well Benavidez didn't look so good when Frankie got inside on him. Frankie has to show he has a good chin but so does Benavidez.

maybe you just had a little too much to drink.
wow, you got jokes.
comparing that jab in that video to the best jabs in boxing is laughable. but instead of actually pointing out what you are talking about in a thread where people are actually talking boxing. when exactly in the video is this devastating throw to set a combo, effectively stop gomez from getting inside, or just plain do damage?
I saw it used as a nice counter a few times, but I can tell you that for certain in the first round his jab was garbage. If it wasn't a counter, it was pawing and doing noting. At least 5 times Frankie walked in without any fire at all. There is not a single effective non-counter jab in the round (maybe 2, maaaaaaaybe).
benevidez is your brother or do you just have a crush on him
Good fight. Frankie was just too busy that fight.
I disagree with the above poster's jab comments.
Jose's jab counter is excellent, sharp and strong. I saw more pawing and innacurate jabs from jose in that fight than hard discouraging jabs or effective rangefinders as a first punch. I was impressive with Jose's footwork and speed and how he uses his height.

and a jab.....
he literally has no jab and to me thats a concern
Benavidez doesn't look as sharp as he does now, maybe it's the pressure or maybe he's corrected it.
If they ever meet in the pros, Gomez will have to prove he has an iron chin or get himself better defensively because Jose won't just let him close like that without making him pay the price.

Thats the point I have tried to make several times when people Jump all over these guys nuts. Neither of them looked remotely spectacular.
Benavidez in particular leaves much to be desired in both defense, and ring smarts. I saw nothing that would lead me to believe either of these guys will turn into anything special in the near future.

It is. I love the way he puts his hands together. He doesnt hit that hard but I think its more of technique thing then him not having power. He had no problems getting inside the much bigger fighter in Jose.
Jose looked very much human against a fighter who wasn't afraid of him like we seen in the pro's.

jose has no steam on his punches when infighting. guys like pwill and caballero at least have something behind their inside shots. I see this being a problem down the road for jose. he just has nothing once you get past his 1-2. same thing I worry about with sergiy dz, although serg's left is a club and he's very accurate. it's enough to keep you off him, not sure if jose's right ins enough at the contender/championship level
frankie's up and down work is nice.

Frankie did an amazing job cutting off the distance. Especialy since Jose is so much bigger than he is. The JWW division is going to be even greater in a few years. Give these guys three years.
Gomez is beastly. Too much pressure for Jose.
Love both of these fighters. Frankie just has his number. Hope they fight in the pro's.
