"I am a huge fan of boxing! Its a beautiful sport!"
"I'm a HUGE Willie Pep Fan!" (Who fought in the 40's-60's lol)
"What you boxing guys dont understand is your sport is gettin SWOLLOWED!"
"Its a wierd arrangemant, to guys agree to fight but only stand up and use thier fists?"
I thought he was a huge fan of boxing? lol

Funny, I thought 2 guys agree to fight then cuddle on the floor for several minutes in a deep embrace was a strange arrangement.
These MMA vs Boxing threads are stupid. Joe rogan is a company man and is so annoying, what the fuk does he know about boxing?
As a trainer and training a lot of mma fighters in boxing, I can tell you watching them train in their wrestling and ju-jitsu is no joke. I would never want to wrestle with those guys.
I respect both but my heart is in boxing obviously.
Good luck to you and your friends. I wish the best for anyone participating in any combat sport no matter what level they're at. But your argument was that it doesn't take "rocket science" to submit someone. My argument is it is just as difficult (maybe even more so) to master these submissions and their counters as it is to become prolific at the finer points of boxing. I've provided examples and reasoning why. You've said any bum of the street could succeed in MMA yet give no logical reasons. :dunno:

According to the December 2001 issue of the Journal of Combative Sport, as of November 2001, 1101 fighters have died in a boxing ring.
No one has died in the UFC. Boxing is far more hazardous because of the heavy padded gloves
No one has ever died in the UFC, the deaths in boxing more likely occur because of the standing 8 count.
Continually recieving blows to the head is a good way to recieve a brain injury.
No one in the UFC, but three men have died in MMA. Sam Vasquez in 2007, Douglas Dedge in 1998, and a 35 year old man only identified as Lee in South Korea in 2005.
the heavy padded gloves? you need to do your research.
why did Deuk Koo Kim die? was it because of the heavy padded gloves? NO. it was because he had serious issues making weight. when ones body is dehydrated like this the brain is at serious risk. is it boxings fault the fighter had a hard time making weight? NO. its the fighters fault for ill preparation. the vast majority of boxer deaths is related to poor training. a lot of these guys fight just to put food on the table, will never be a somebody, and will go to extraordinary lengths to make the fight happen.
lets see how the first generation of mma fighters end up looking like. mma is far more dangerous. saw a tuf episode recently and there was so much blood one would think a murder took place. broken bones and all kinds of serious injuries...........regularly.
also if you look at the statistics on boxer deaths, there has been a huge decline since the 1980's. 90's even less and 00' even less. boxing has a rich history that goes far back. people were dying from toothaches in the 40's so yeah boxers from those era's will die. mma started in modern times so it will definitely have less deaths to deal with.
lets look at some stats from 93' which is the year mma started. and lets look at them case by case. one just cant throw numbers around w/o a reason behind it.
and fyi most commission rules are NO standing 8 count. your confused i think. when was the last time you saw a ref give a fighter a standing 8? i cant remember and i've been watching boxing longer than you and your daddy.
lets talk about taking punches. its not about high volume of weaker punches that do the damage, its about those hard asss shots that rattle your brain. experienced boxers know this as fact. once your out of the green stage, most punches dont really hurt. 16 oz gloves in sparring with face saver hg's for training to move on to 10-12oz .......now lets compare the 4oz mma gloves that hit like cement? if you didnt have power before, youll have it with those gloves for sure.
headgears are super safe as compared to years past. when i was out of my element sparring pro's and i got caught, shots that would knock most men out-----those hurt. you can only take so many of those. those are the punches that do the damage. i've taken shots with mma gloves and a glancing blow really hurts. there is a significant difference.
forget kellerman, get me in there with rogan. i'll spank him with knowledge then spank him with a 5 piece and i aint talkin bout no kfc either.
The beauty about boxing is that it requires multiple & various amount of skills, but it's still a distinct individual sport just like any other major sport. It's science. It's analytical.
Mixed martial arts, well is just that, mixed.
It's like watching basketball, soccer, football, golf, tennis, volleyball players all at the same time. It's amusing to see who would win, but that's just it. It's just amusing.
I'm sure there is a sweet science and requires a lot of training to be successful in MMA also. Don't mind the hate, i have more bad experiences losing in MMA matches than when I Box
Its all good my friend.

For your information, I have friends that train in a local gym here in Bay Area, Ca. I spar with them, and give 'em shit all the time on how it's so much easier to be succesful in MMA than it is in Boxing.
How so? Do you have a stat or something that confirms this, or is it just an opinion you cannot back up with solid proof?
We're prolly not ever going to make it in the pros, but i'd much rather get beaten thoroughly in Boxing match, than get hit by a lucky punch or taken to ground and get submitted.

Boxing is a graceful olympic sport that's been around for centuries.
UFC is barbaric and unhuman.
Screw Joe Rogan.

Im not going to get into a pissing contest about the finer points of either sport. I favor boxing but enjoy both sports and have trained in both. It doesn't take rocket science to hook off the jab either, does it? The point is that in either sport you have to be able to think while under attack and be prepared to have your own punches or moves countered. You're using two examples, but you're leaving out the part where the wrong placement of a foot or hand, or being just a bit off balance can cause you to fall into a submission yourself. If you think its easy I encourage you to find an MMA gym and give it a try. You will be surprised at ow more difficult it is than you think.

really ignorant post.
it doesnt take rocket science to throw a left hook or a right cross....and yet it takes years of experience to learn to apply it effectively because your opponent will be blocking, ducking, bobbing, weaving.
Do you even know what the fvck your talking about? Because no one else does.
Obviously it takes years of experience and hours of training to be an elite boxers. You can't just take a bum off the streets and turn 'em into an MMA icon like you do in UFC.
There are literally hundreds of types of submissions. It doesn't take rocket science to use rear naked choke when you are behind an opponent. Or using a triangle choke when you grab your opponent in between your butt cheeks.

Dou Bella gave a crap argument. He needs to watch 3 or 4 shows and then he would have come backs of boring floor laying shit.
Boxing will never die, there's so much money in it.
Yes you only use you hands, but MMA has a lot of hugging and shit that is boring.
Rogan acts like MMA is always all out action, which it is not. Neither is boxing either though.

Submissions are more difficult than you might think. First you have to be able to recognize which one to use depending on what position both you and your opponent are in. Than you have to be able to apply it. Setting up submissions is as difficult as setting up your next punching combination's because your opponent isn't simply going to comply with you. In both you have to think while being under attack and worry about opening yourself up and being countered.

That's irrelevant, MMA fighters don't nearly throw/land as many as Boxers. They would actually dance around and cuddle on the ground before they ever trade punches.
It's also been proven 8-10oz gloves hit as hard as the 4oz they use in MMA.
not about which size glove hits harder...it's the fact that your guard is not as effective because punches that normally get blocked are suddenly getting through even though your guard is perfect. you have no idea what the fukk hit you.
I dare any 2 boxers to attempt sparring with 4oz mma gloves and if they dont get rocked. Punches that would never hit you with boxing gloves on will get through with 4oz mma gloves and you'll have no idea what hit you because you tried to defend it the same way you trained with 16oz gloves on.
