I don't think anyone at present day WW could beat Tommy.. Tommy was an absolute beast at WW, and Manny to be fair doesn't have the size to compete with someone like Thomas Hearns. Manny would fight bravely, but would lose by brutal KO (IMO). Thomas over all size, reach, power, and superior boxing skills would be to much for the Filipino typhoon.
Stupid question. Even if his power and speed weren't enough to destroy Pacquiao (which they were, easily), Manny wouldn't stand a chance against someone with his freakish size and reach. It's the same reason Paul Williams would beat Pacquiao even though Pacquiao is superior in nearly every respect (though in this case, Hearns is superior in almost every way).
Do you think Floyd would of moved up?
Do you think Oscar would of moved up?Floyd, never.
Oscar, I think he'd have to. But I don't really see him as being much more than a fringe in that era.
The guy was big enough to fight as a light heavyweight, and was an absolute beast at welter to middle. Floyd and Pac don't stand a chance in the universe against Hearns.
He has 6 inches height and almost a foot of reach on Pac. He has 4 inches height and 6 inches reach on Floyd. The guy had great handspeed and devastating power, and could move and had great boxing skills. I'm sorry, but both those little guys are ****ed against Hearns.
Who did Hearns beat, much less KO, at WW that can beat the top 10 WW today? Name one guy.
147 on a 6'1'' frame weighs the same as 147 on a 5'6''-5'8'' frame. The only things he would have more than them is bone mass.
Yet he lost to the only guy who gave him competition at WW...

Some people voted for manny by KO. That blows my mind. Hearns would be any current welter, Floyd and Pac included.
Yet he lost to the only guy who gave him competition at WW...
Yes that is exactly what I am doing. Did P-Will have 30 ko's in 32 fights as a 6'1 WW?
Was Pipino Cuevas a bum? And, at what weight-class did Cuevas had most of his fights in? And, how many rounds did he last against the feather fisted Hearns?
And, no I am not a self proclaimed boxing "expert". However, I can already tell that your knowledge is not up to par.
Are we talking about Martinez or P-Will power/chin here? You said Martinez didn't respect P-Will power. Yet he got dropped.
Oh, a lucky punch that what it was... OK... And, who had Clottey beaten that was better than Quintana? Judah? Not Corrales right? Who else? Alvarez? Gutierrez? Who can you say Judah beat that was better than Quintana. And, why are you forgetting how highly touted the love child was at the time?
And, yes Hearns would of KO'd him.
.
Well he also didn't beat Cotto or Baldomir(even though I felt it was bulushit DQ is still a lost)
And, yes I would say P-Will is a much better WW and I think Quintana, Collazo, and Clottey were on par with each other at WW.
If you don't think guys that are the same size it has more power than other guys then I don't know what to tell you... I mean Paulie Malignaggi?
You really think he hits as hard as guys his size? Come on man...
You're actually debating with this guy? :lol1:
You are shot.
Yes that is exactly what I am doing. Did P-Will have 30 ko's in 32 fights as a 6'1 WW?
He's more skilled, so he landed more, doesn't mean he has more punching power than P.Will. P.Will is a volume puncher. Obviously if Hearns lands clean on guys, he would hurt them, but so would Cotto, Pac, Shane. They have more power at WW than Hearns. It's scientifically impossible for Hearns to have more power than a guy weighing the same as him, but shorter. It's just not possible because of the muscle and weight distribution I talked about earlier.
Was Pipino Cuevas a bum? And, at what weight-class did Cuevas had most of his fights in? And, how many rounds did he last against the feather fisted Hearns?
And, no I am not a self proclaimed boxing "expert". However, I can already tell that your knowledge is not up to par.
Out of all the Welterweight guys Hearns fought, is anyone of them better than Cotto, Clottey, Marg, P. Will, Pac, May, Mosley?
**** no. He had no competition at WW, and the one time he did, he got beat.
And my knowledge isn't on par, I have yet to see any real substance in your posts man. All opinion BS.
Are we talking about Martinez or P-Will power/chin here? You said Martinez didn't respect P-Will power. Yet he got dropped.
I was talking about that in relation to the Pavlik fight. Martinez respected Pavlik's power more which is why he boxed him instead of brawling with him.
Quintana, is the guy even top 10? LMFAO
Clottey fought all the top WWs, and basically beat them (if you watched the fights) all except Pacquaio. He's just not a finisher, that doesn't take away what he did in the early and middle part of the fight.
And, yes I would say P-Will is a much better WW and I think Quintana, Collazo, and Clottey were on par with each other at WW.
Wow, dude, who the hell did Collazo and Quintana fight at WW? Berto killed Quintana and Collazo lost to ****ing Hatton. Stop being dishonest man, that some BS putting Clottey in the same class as Collazo and Quintana.
If you don't think guys that are the same size it has more power than other guys then I don't know what to tell you... I mean Paulie Malignaggi?
You really think he hits as hard as guys his size? Come on man...
It's the way he fights, idiot. You can't knock big guys out fighting defensively. Mayweather has proven that. No doubt Mayweather has some power, he just never uses it because of the way he fights.
A tidbit a lot of guys on are oblivious to is that you sacrifice power for accuracy. The reason Mayweather is so accurate is because he holds back power for precision. Guys like Manny go mostly all out so accuracy is naturally compromised. They think Mayweather is this great accurate puncher, but there's a reason he's not a power puncher.
Oh yeah and you said "Strength does not equal punching power." You mind thoroughly explaining how punching power is generated??? Do you even have the mental capacity to do so? Other than "punchers are born?"
Oh, so now you're gonna use stats to prove your point, because you got utterly destroyed by saying a skinny 6'1'' has KO power greater than any welterweight today?
Yes that is exactly what I am doing. Did P-Will have 30 ko's in 32 fights as a 6'1 WW?
First off, Hearns fought a bunch of bums at welterweight before finally facing SRL, which he lost. Secondly, he started his career at welterweight which means he was naturally bigger than most guys there. Finally, you think the guys he beat at WW even remotely compares to the top 10 WW today? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, self proclaimed boxing "expert?"
Was Pipino Cuevas a bum? And, at what weight-class did Cuevas had most of his fights in? And, how many rounds did he last against the feather fisted Hearns?
And, no I am not a self proclaimed boxing "expert". However, I can already tell that your knowledge is not up to par.
So did Williams? You think he could do that at 147? You think a 6'1'' guy, as big as he is, is stronger 13 lbs lighter? ROFL, funny guy.
Are we talking about Martinez or P-Will power/chin here? You said Martinez didn't respect P-Will power. Yet he got dropped.
That was one lucky punch. Clottey has beaten much better guys at WW than Quintana. Quintana's biggest win was against, you guessed it, Paul Williams. Kinda ironic isn't it? If he had so much power, why did it even go 12 rounds? Surely the smaller Hearns would have knocked him out because he was "born" with it???
Oh, a lucky punch that what it was... OK... And, who had Clottey beaten that was better than Quintana? Judah? Not Corrales right? Who else? Alvarez? Gutierrez? Who can you say Judah beat that was better than Quintana. And, why are you forgetting how highly touted the love child was at the time?
And, yes Hearns would of KO'd him.
He beat him anyways. He beat every guy he fought except Pacquiao and maybe Marg. He has a much better resume at WW than Quintana or Williams.
Well he also didn't beat Cotto or Baldomir(even though I felt it was bulushit DQ is still a lost)
And, yes I would say P-Will is a much better WW and I think Quintana, Collazo, and Clottey were on par with each other at WW.
Why don't you explain how punching power works, on a scientific level. Not some BS stuff that you came up with?
If you don't think guys that are the same size it has more power than other guys then I don't know what to tell you... I mean Paulie Malignaggi?
You really think he hits as hard as guys his size? Come on man...
Hearns WW record was 31-1 with 30KO's.... Only one guy went the distance. One of those KO wins was against Pipino Cuevas. yea you right he didn't have any power :pat: His lone WW lost was to Leonard.
Oh, so now you're gonna use stats to prove your point, because you got utterly destroyed by saying a skinny 6'1'' has KO power greater than any welterweight today?

P-Will also managed to KO Quintana out in 1 round. I repeat 1 round. Name a fighter that Clottey managed to KO in 1 round that was on Quintana level. Matter of fact just name any fighter I don't care.
That was one lucky punch. Clottey has beaten much better guys at WW than Quintana. Quintana's biggest win was against, you guessed it, Paul Williams. Kinda ironic isn't it? Clottey couldn't even stopped a shot version, blown up LW version in Corrales. Even though Clottey was coming in 170 pounds.
He beat him anyways. He beat every guy he fought except Pacquiao and maybe Marg. He has a much better resume at WW than Quintana or Williams.
Strength does not equal punching power.
Why don't you explain how punching power works, on a scientific level. Not some BS stuff that you came up with? I can assure you you'll be wrong because you're not knowledgeable about anything outside out boxing. You don't understand how power is transfered through the body, how mass and acceleration affects powers, how muscle is involved in moving limbs, etc..
This is why most people on this board are uneducated morons. You guys say stuff that has no basis in reality. There has never been a study to show that some people are born punchers.
I'll say it again. It's scientifically impossible, you understand that, IMPOSSIBLE, for a guy with the same height and weight, training the same muscles to be significantly different in strength. Some guys pack more muscle in the legs, while some guys pack more muscle in the upper body, but if you knew anything about science, you would understand that punching power comes from the legs, to the core, and finally to the arms. Both Hearns and Williams has chicken legs.
When you're 6'1'' and weigh the same as someone who is 5'8'', more muscle is spread throughout the body, therefore your muscle mass is less dense than a guy who's 5'8'', because he has less body volume to fill.
Saying Hearns is a powerful puncher, just because he is, has no basis in reality. You can't just compare 2 videos and decide which ever one looks more impressive means he's better. That's not how science works.
Basically, there is no substance behind the assumption that Hearns has some great KO power, just observations, fanboyism, nostalgia, underappreciation of modern boxers, and refusal to let go of the past.
Hearns WW record was 31-1 with 30KO's.... Only one guy went the distance. One of those KO wins was against Pipino Cuevas. yea you right he didn't have any power :pat: His lone WW lost was to Leonard.
Edit: And you think Clottey, a guy who goes into the ring at 170, doesn't hit as hard as chicken legs Paul Williams? You're ****ing stupid if you think that. Martinez didn't even respect his power when they fought at MW! If they fought at WW, Clottey would easily overpower Williams.
Didn't Martinez get dropped in that fight?

Look at Hearns' skinny frame. Dude looks like he would get pushed around by Williams.

from all the pics ive seen of Thomas Hearns, hes VERY skinny, P. williams has a thicker body than hitman, This fight is gonna be a split decision either way
P-Will might punch harder than Clottey. I actually think he does TBH. Now Cotto I don't know.
However, what you talking about has nothing to do with power smart guy...
Hernandez and Oscar were the same size at 135 yet Oscar hit harder.
Oscar and Tito same size at 147 yet Tito the more dynamic puncher with both hands.
You are born with punching power.
Malignaggi is the same size as a lot of 140 pounders yet he won't punch as hard as them.
Hearns he crazy power at 147 unreal. True freak of nature. Much more harder hitter than P-Will, Cotto, Pac, Mosely any WW today. Hell I would say he the more harder hitter than any fighter from 147-160.
Is not like you can lift all this weights and then become a KO artist it doesn't work that way. You're born with the power. And, punching power is that last thin that leaves you. Your reflex, speed, stamina could all leave. But, the power will stay. The punching power would be the last thing to leave a fighter.
Again punchers are born not made.

right on the money once again...
