Lucian Bute - http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=223046&cat=boxer
or
Andre Ward - http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=281958&cat=boxer
edit: i probably should have added dirrell to the list.
Can anyone explain how Bute is #1??
Here it is.
It's natural right now, looking to the records, Bute is clearly no. 1 of the division and the man to beat. Also, Bute fights cleaner than Ward (let alone Dirrell), he's more correct and more powerful.
Ward, like averagely all the American fighters, has a higher work-rate, and the favor of the referee. :)
I'm not saying Ward is not a champion. He has probably the highest work-rate in the division. And in a match set in the USA, Ward would surely give Bute a harsh time. Ward is a pressure fighter, while Bute is a puncher. He's also more experienced than Ward, which anyway has a glorious amateur record, and like all the great amateurs, he can boxe very well.
I just can't wait for that fight to happen: Ward vs Bute, Pac vs Floyd and Haye vs a Klitschko, are the fights that have to be made within the next couple of years.
Anyway, for myself I really don't see how Ward can be compared to Hopkins... :nonono: No way.
atm Andre ward since he is leading the super six at the current moment of time ...but i reckon that will change pretty soon since arthur is coming for the rest of the super six fighters...
I think it's definitely Ward, and I might put Dirrell, Froch, and Kessler above Bute as well. If Bute was in this tourney he wouldn't be looking so damn good as he does fighting Edison freaking Miranda. I don't see how Bute is jumping up the rankings so quick.
Me neither, I was impressed on him stopping Miranda so early, not so much with stopping Miranda in general. His KO of Andrade was great though.

You only gave Froch five rounds? You gave all the close rounds to Kessler? I would not score it that way but it's understandable some rounds like second, fourth and ninth were close and could have gone either way but i would not have given that many to Kessler. I had seven rounds for Froch when i watched it live and when i rewatched i gave one more close round to Froch.
Kessler - Froch
116 - 112
Andre Ward/Andre Dirrell: Both are unbeaten, although Dirrell against a higher quality of opponent - I would question whether Ward could beat King Arthur. However, due to Ward's dominaton over Kessler (who, after losing widely, still beat 27-0 Froch), I rank them evenly.
Arthur Abraham: Assuming King Arthur (35-0 with 30 KOs) is still at his top level, he will blast out Froch, but he may well have lost a lot of skill when Dirrell beat him comprehensively. Prior to the Dirrell fight, after watching Dirrell struggle but beat Froch I reckoned that King Arthur would smash him. Even Ward, after he beat Kessler, didn't look good enough to handle Abraham (perhaps Ward isn't - we'll find out in Ward vs. Dirrell).
Ward had two good shots against a tired Kessler (who changed trainer and came back fitter), and the mediocre Green, and Dirrell has been sooo lucky against Abraham...
Anyway the best fighter nowadays in the super-middleweight division is Bute. Bute could be a p4p king. You got to admit, the guy has it all: speed, power, heart, technique, spirit. In two words: he is tough and quiet. No "Son of God" fanfares, no Muhammad Ali hit off's. True champion.
Bute's in the same league as Hopkins and Roy Jones, to show it he just needs to face those Supersix guys, after the tournament is over. Then we'll see who is Bute. I believe. :boxing:
Ward is that dude right now @ 68.....I was rootin' for Green big time on Saturday but I do have to admit that I was really impressed at how Ward mauled and mugged the bigger man.....reminded me of the GREAT B.Hop....the kid bought a smile to my face even though he was muggin and maulin' the fukk outta my dude!! :lol1:.....Ward is the man!!.....I'm sold on the kid.....he'll win the tourney!!.....and IMO he'll beat Bute as well if they ever fight!!
What exactly has Bute done that should give him the no.1 spot?
Held a belt for a few years.
Beaten Bika, by a wider margin than Calzaghe.
Only 2nd man to KO Joppy.
Beaten Andrade twice, 2nd time making him only man to KO him.
Quickest to KO Miranda.
Undefeated.
Look, I hate Froch but it wasn't a robbery.
A robbery is a blatant gift to another fighter, not a decision in a close fight going one way when some thought it went the other. It was close, even that doesn't say much for Dirrell imo.
I'm sorry, trying to make a case for Dirrell as the #1 SMW is simply ridiculous to me as of right now. It's close up top but at a push I'd go...
Bute
Ward
Kessler
Dirrell
Abraham
Froch
If Ward wins his next fight I'd put him top. As I say though, all Bute can do is keep winning.

dirrell whooped froch's a$s but the hometown judges robbed him. if dirrell wasnt robbed in that fight i probably would have ranked him number 1.

I don't like Wards style that's true. I never accused him directly of doping just pointed out his shady connections with BALCO's Victor Conte.
Ward is a great talent there's no denying that and he beat the main man in the division in flying style headbutts or not.
Point taken. I still dont think he is the best. Close but not yet. But thats why they fight. I think any of these guys can beat each other on any given saturday 5/10 times.
How Dirrell could even be mentioned as a potential number one is simply un-acceptable to me. He couldn't even beat Froch whom isn't such an awful style for him.
I'd say it's tight between Ward, Kessler and Bute tbh. It's gona be subjective, especially at the moment until they all fight once more - by which point it should be clearer.
I feel sorry for Bute in a way because he's left with guys outside of the Super 6. All he can do is keep winning.

1. Ward
2. Kessler
3. Dirrel
4. Bute
Bute has a china chin.
2:47 watch and learn, and thats with headgear against a guy who is fighting at middleweight.
He's a swede with a panamanian background. :)
How are you jreck? Wanna go see AA-Froch? Fancy another round of "2 euro robots trying to go to war"?
I thought Kesslers mum was from the UK !?
